sorry for my ignorance but would this be like the new corvette handles? where their sort of made into the door itself?

DJcuetip 10-13-2009 02:25 PM

loooks unique!! ithink it would grow me for sure... but i think i am going ahead with the shaveD!

Snakebite202 10-13-2009 03:28 PM

Excuse me for not knowing or possibly not reading all the way through, but what do you use to open the door again? Regardless, I think it would look good. The Z's door handles are kind of bulky.

DJcuetip 10-13-2009 03:29 PM

i just ordered this kit SPAL USA

it pretty much works like a regular car remote.. except it pops the door open for you

bullitt5897 10-13-2009 04:16 PM

DJ those I think are some of the best ones on the market SPAL makes a good kit! let me know how it goes ;)

rednek01 10-13-2009 04:43 PM

wow the car looks so much better without the handles. They really kill the body line and don't go with the car at all, its like they realized that there was big door handles on the 350z and figured they had to carry them over on the 370z which is a shame.

Pointman 10-13-2009 05:23 PM

DJ cant wait to see it!!! Really like the shaved look. I will be waiting on the pics!!!!

Mike 10-13-2009 08:03 PM

props to you DJ for actually having the cojones to go through with it!!!!!!

DJcuetip 10-14-2009 03:08 AM

thanks. i will most def post pics, i have a lot going on for this month, and will post up my build once i can!

simota1 10-14-2009 06:32 AM

 thatll be sick after u shave em

fuct 10-14-2009 09:05 AM

exciting!! good luck on the project

bullitt5897 10-14-2009 10:04 AM

OK I sent in the request for the GTR retro fit and Shaved options to ArtCraft.... :excited: I cant wait to see the outcome! I expect the GTR retrofit to be close to $1k because of parts and the shaved should run about $500-$750... we will see when I get the quotes back... I am really leaning on the GTR handles as no one will have them and I keep all my OEM capabilities without extra controllers :D

DJcuetip 10-14-2009 02:50 PM

hey bullitt are there requirements for shaved handles on the track?

bullitt5897 10-14-2009 08:59 PM

I dont know lol I have never ran into a shaved car door on the track lol

370ZBLACK09 10-20-2009 04:46 PM

Is there any new news on the GTR retro fit and Shaved options?

bullitt5897 10-20-2009 08:16 PM

No news yet but after the insurance adjuster comes out to do the claim on my car I will be sending it to artcraft to get worked on :D Jeff, the owner, is going to take a look and see what the time and materials are going to be. I am most likely going to be doing the shaved door mod with hidden recessed buttons under the mirrors ;) I will keep you guys updated :D

I don't think anyone has been able to grasp the true cost of retrofitting GTR door-handles. Not only will you have to cut/mold the doors, but fab up the actual mechanisms for everything to work properly. You're looking at least $2K in labor alone, not including the handles from Nissan. Shaving, on the other hand, should be no different than on any other car as there are pre-fabbed kits available through the aftermarket.

Still...you must really hate the factory door-handles to go through all the headache necessary to get rid of them. I say leave the shaved-handles for the mini-trucks and lowriders.

370ZBLACK09 10-20-2009 09:16 PM

I say the Shaved handles look a lot better than the stock handles do and they are worth the cost if the look right
I'm going to wait until I see an actual car already have it be done

nogoodname 10-20-2009 09:21 PM

little of both (door handle and shaved)..... someone should make custom ones like on the cts coupe............. never mind the ugly looks of the car for now.... not the point

JoeD I understand this is a forum and you have the right to voice your opinion but jeeze man you have no clue what you are talking about. I have researched the parts it will take to do the retro fit and the costs are a lil over $1k to do them. You do not have to make all kinds of crazy custom parts maybe a mount or two but not a whole lot. its as simple as buying the inner door mechanism/actuators for a gtr plus the handle assemblies... thats it! Other than that the cost of getting them installed is close to the same as shaved door handles. Shaved doors is well under the $750 mark and looks very clean.

back on to the other ideas.

Shoot I like the idea of the corvettes but the problem comes down to modifying the rear quarter panel and the door to do it... mucho expensivo my friends! lol but its a nice concept and it would look good too!:tiphat:

LOL...ok. Do it, then report back to us and let us know how it goes.

DJcuetip 10-20-2009 11:06 PM

The reason why I am shaving the handle off is because I love how clean it looks AND my car is getting sprayed a different color soooo i think ill save money if I get it done now!

bullitt5897 10-20-2009 11:15 PM

oOoOo what color?.... wait... let me guess.....

Ummmmmm... PEARL WHITE! muahahahaha

DJcuetip 10-21-2009 02:18 AM

haha youll see.. i havent had my car the past couple months due to some modification =D .. but will have her in a week or 2 !!

bullitt5897 10-21-2009 06:14 AM

Someone got a twin turbo!!!! Lol

Moonlitebiker 10-21-2009 06:26 AM

I haven't even bought my Z yet and you guys have me spending more money! The shaved look is amazing, but I don't think the idea of rolling windows down to unlock the door would work to well in Florida. Talk about a major mess during the rainy season.

DJcuetip 10-21-2009 02:03 PM

haah no turbo, i wish though.. thats a top priority later this yr!

DJcuetip 10-21-2009 04:40 PM

man i just got bad news from shop that they might not have time to install popper kit and shave handles off in time for the event coming up.. so i might have to wait a couple weeks :(

bullitt5897 10-21-2009 06:41 PM

YAY so that means I will be first! Muahaha! *evil smile* well DJ gets all the props for the idea of fully shaved doors! I hope things work out and they get ahead of schedule!

You might wanna do what I am doing and add hidden buttons for the doors.

Valentino 10-22-2009 01:22 AM

^ I'm looking forward to see ur car after its done.

Good luck.

Equinox 10-22-2009 10:04 AM

From what I understand - If you go to a quarter mile or eighth mile track that is even slightly regulated, they will not let your drag race with completely shaved door handles, as when you flip your car or something, the rescure crew can't open the doors. Mind you there are plenty of backwood redneck tracks don't tech inspect or even look at the car

j.arnaldo 10-22-2009 01:44 PM

...that looks awesome. Sweet paint job, Mike!

Ok so the car is in the shop for the next several days/weeks and here is the deal. I talked with Jeff the owner and we may have found a way to keep everything OEM minus the door handles. We have fount the ideal place for a hidden button and a place for the key in case your battery goes dead.

We will be pulling the button mechanism out of the handle and will be placing the button on the bottom side of the side view mirror mounts (not in the mirrors). Thus making the car legal for track use :D

also, the Key hole will be located next to the license plate in the gap area to release the hatch :D

Jeff will be pulling the car apart tomorrow and we will see what kind of trouble we can get into from there!

Oh man there are soooo many advantages to this design I am EXCITED!!!!

DJcuetip 10-22-2009 09:47 PM

Nice bullit, btw which kit did you decide to get?

bullitt5897 10-23-2009 10:00 AM

I havent decided... we are looking into retaining everything OEM while just adding poppers to open the door! :excited:
