Yep, all gone. I now have a noise at the base of my windshield that is getting worse, but the noise at the back of the headliner is gone.

Time to buy some dynamat, might just do the entire trunk while I'm at it...is there a website that sells this stuff cheap?

Thanks for all your help btw.

NP! Second Skin is a vendor here and sells a comparable product, their customer service is great (I had an issue and it was taken care of immediately). They did give me some free stuff so in the interest of full disclosure I should mention that...

When I was going after the rattle in my headliner Second Skin was not a vendor here at the time and I just got some Dynamat at the local stereo shop. I'm sure you can do better with Second Skin or somewhere else online. Buying the stuff by the sheet at the local shop is not cheap (won't do that again).

I never had time to take it apart myself. I actually ended up dropping it off to the dealer this morning...I'll let everyone know what they say. I was also able to reproduce the sound by reaching back from the seat and gently tapping on the rear windshield with two fingers.

I hope they take care of this, I'm now thinking it's coming from the rear hatch and not from underneath the headliner.

Buzzing noise? Tech says to replace the support post.

After two test drives in November 09 with a tech the existence and location of the buzzingb noise was identified. Said the noise was coming from the support post that runs across the cabin behind the seats. The part is back ordered and I understand it is supposed to be "released" this month. Still waiting.

The dealer was useless of course...I took the headliner apart yesterday after work and spent an hour or so on it. I put electric tape on the clips to secure like in Schrute's journal and I reached in deep and felt another block touching the roof. I put a little piece of double sided tape on there as well. I also put a line of double sided tape along the roof right behind the clips immediately before the roof bend. I took the car out last night and didn't hear anything...I'll be more confident that it's gone after driving today.

I now have that noise also! I also have a stress crack from the base of my windshield which is scheduled to be replaced under warranty!

Noise is still there for me

Took it to the dealer for the fifth time. Described the problem based on the forum. (Thank you schrute). Said they fixed a wire. Noise is still there and am taking it back again to dealer today with reference to this post info. Can't believe the dealer does not have a record of this problem and a fix? Am also going to start writing letters.......

Let me know if you need any assistance...I want to know exactly what this noise is coming from...It seems like it's coming from the rear of the headliner but there's nothing there (I don't have that wire like Schrute does) and I can't replicate it once the headliner is off...it's also important to note that when I reach back and tap on the hatch glass with two fingers I can replicate the same noise but when I open the hatch and get back there and do the same I can't. I got this from another post (maybe thread?) about this same problem that was discovered by the dealer.

buzzing in the rear

Dealer called and said the noise was gone. Will pick up the car this evening. Dealer had the car 6 days. Credit the dealer with persistence and me with patience.

KingZee 06-08-2010 11:20 AM

Any chance the dealer told you exactly what it was from?

Have had my Z since late September. Occassionally I get a very annoying buzzing noise coming from somewhere behind the seats. Seems to happen when the car has been out in the Sun and then driven on rough roads. Also occurs when RPMs go above 6K. When I push up on roof it seems to go away until I stop pushing. Not sure if I want to take it to the dealer. I'm worried they may very likely make the matter worse as the sound only happens occassionally.

Anyone else have a similar problem?

My buzzing sound culprit is the antenna wire in the ceiling panel located in rear half section. I have no sound problems in my rear thanks to Schrute.
