So...Pedals Fly Apart While Driving Apparently
Way to use some cheap *** metal Nissan.
https://scontent-a-iad.xx.fbcdn.net/...18&oe=54BB64A0 Helper spring perch sheared off while I was in traffic. Clutch got harder to use, and now wobbles side to side, and I got a metal parts rolling around behind the brake pedal. This sure inspires confidence in me to trust the other two pedals. Car has 45k mi on it. Metal parts shouldn't be cracking in half. Since this site uses filters. **** **** **** **** YOU NISSAN. Let the battle begin tomorrow with the stealership. I'll probably just end up welding the parts back together and boxing it in. I don't trust a damn thing a dealership would do after past experiences. |
Huh... first time seeing that..
|
Yeah. Over the years I've come to accept some crappy build quality out of my Nissans - but this just seems unsafe.
|
Its common with Mazda RX-8's too. Bracket will crack after abuse... Unfortunately manufacturers cheap out on certain parts to save a buck.

Spending any amount of time on 485 could qualify as abuse...haha :roflpuke2::roflpuke2::roflpuke2: |
Damn! That's some serious power shifting, jk.
Time for an RJM pedal upgrade!? |

May upgrade to RJM pedal. I'll read reviews on it. I love that the stock pedal was nice and heavy, it just sucked that it had no feel. And that it exploded.

As an aside, I'm sure you can find someone on this forum with their stock clutch pedal assembly collecting dust in a box. |
for what its worth I love my RJM

Worth every penny! If you have the money to get one I would highly recommend it. |

Your car did a DIY for you, there's several people including myself who drive without that assembly entirely and prefer it haha.

Some people do take off the spring, but the problem now is that the pedal has a decent amount of side-to-side play in it, the engagement windows is even more narrow, and I worry that since the pedal has lateral movement in it, the rod/piston will unevenly wear in the master cylinder.
Going by the dealer, if they won't fix it then RJM. People with RJM, any lateral freeplay in the pedal? |
Update, went to the dealership East Charlotte Nissan. The technician there was very helpful (he has owned several S13s and Z33s himself), this if the first case like this they have seen. The clutch system is warrantied for 12,000 mi or something so they can't do anything right now (I understand a limited warranty on the clutch) but I've contacted Nissan North America regarding the case as this is the actual bracket that failed and poses a safety hazard. Case number 159-527-67. On a related note, they have had 5 slave cylinder failures over the past few months.

Sent to Nissan North America:
RE: Consumer Affairs 159-527-67 Hello, I was recently at my Nissan Dealership (and have only good things to say about them regarding this). I was instructed to contact Nissan NA but I did want to open this dialogue through email. This is regarding the failure of the clutch pedal bracket on my 2011 Z. The mounting ear where the clutch helper spring attaches to the pedal sheared off while I was driving. This caused the pedal to become very firm, and the engagement window extremely narrow causing the vehicle to become difficult to drive. It also resulted in multiple parts falling behind the brake pedal while driving. I was informed that Nissan has a limited warranty on the clutch system (I understand this as the clutch may wear quickly during abusive driving), but this seems unrelated to metal parts shearing off while driving - posing a safety risk. There have been no similar cases related to this on the 370Z to my knowledge of that of my dealer. The Slave cylinder is known to fail on this particular model, but this is unrelated. The service manager at the dealership Gina and the technician (I believe his name was Joe?) were very helpful and I thank them. However, the fact remains that my car is still broken and my confidence in Nissan's build quality is seriously in jeopardy. I would like to have this issue resolved as quickly as possible so that I can go back to enjoying my Nissan. I also feel that this is a safety issue and should be repaired by Nissan. I do have have pictures of the broken assembly that I can supply. Thank you for your time *contact info withheld* |

I have an OEM pedal you can have for free (or whatever shipping costs). But I recommend the RJM clutch pedal assembly :twocents:

Well that means that the aftermarket is gonna have to pick it up.(i just hope it isn't made out of even cheaper metal) |
Well that's a bummer. Glad nothing bad happened and you came through it safely. Good letter to Nissan North America. Hope they take care of it for you. I had a recent good experience with my local Nissan Service center too. They replaced my CSC & CMC under warranty. The nice thing was they allowed me to furnish the ZSpeed HD CSC and they installed it instead of the crappy plastic Nissan one. Hope you have the same kind of good luck with your repair.

Customer Service Rep called from Nissan (TN) today. I went over everything with her and she said she would call and speak to the local dealer Service Manager (Gina) to go over everything. She did seem confused that the technician didn't look inside my car to "diagnose it" and that I did't leave the car there - but I came in with the diagnosis and live near the stealership so am keeping it in the garage. Customer Service Lady said I'd hopefully hear back sometime early next week.

Wishing you good luck!

Consumer affairs lady called yesterday and again today. Left a message saying I'd hear something by next monday or I could call. I called and left her a message (saying to shoot me an email).
|
dealing with the canned message lady is the most painful part of the process, i thinks...
btw, id just go aftermarket in your case. |

Read the first post and don't know if it has been said already but i would call it "pedals improve themselves while driving apparently"
|
Lady called back. Since it's clutch related it's not under warranty and they are sorry that Nissan cannot help me.
If the middle pedal does this I bet they will. |
This sounds exactly like the Nissan warranty experience I have come to know and doesn't surprise me in the least :shakes head:
|
The lady was extremely flabbergasted that A) I knew what a clutch system was and how it worked (she did not, being just a PR person) and B) I am ordered a new pedal myself not through the dealer.
