Mag black can you take pics of the weld areas of the exhaust?
|
I'm actually disappointed in the work. This is not how we talked about doing it. The 2nd tip will never flow w/ it like this. This does not look like $850 work of work to me.

I wouldn't be mad if I got it back late and the work was what I was expecting, but what I got was a late delivery and not the work I was expecting. Owner of shop said he's going to call me, but that was a couple of days ago. I'm not holding my breath. I've already found someone that will fix the work and does amazing fab work. Wiping my hands clean of this one. |

yeah, man I checked a few place around here and I am not confident... pretty much it is a custom exhaust after they are done. It is not even a FI anymore... the body shop said they will modified the rear bumper by increasing the diameter around the exhaust tip and they will use the premium flat black (powdercoated) mesh I provided to cover the sides. He put it up in the back and it looked good. I got the mesh with the smallest opening that does a good job covering empty space... I rather do this then hack up my FI CBE or sale it and get the Zele exhaust ($3200 on the cheap side ouch) or a custom exhaust with no guarantee on sound or horsepower... then I have to wait and retune with UpRev again... i was stressed out today smh... because everything I read so far suggests that the FI exhaust fit with the ZL rear bumper... and everybody said that it was an easy job for most exhaust shops to just weld on the quad tips for a few hundred bucks... oh well, live and learn...
|
^^ how much are you getting charged if they hack up the exhaust?
|
He didn't say... The body shop doesn't have a tig welder or SS piping. he said I would have to take my car to an exhaust specialist with the rear bumper and have them look at it... Russ said they would have to move the muffler back a few inches, and make new bends and a new pipe to the exhaust tip... to me that is too much trouble and not worth it right now... I like my FI exhaust... a lot... he is sending me pics of the dry fit this afternoon... i'll post it up later...
$800+ to have the quad tip look is a lot... 400 would be pushing it for me... I thought I could spend about $150 on quad tips and about 150-200 for the install... oh, well... maybe later... however, I still have my friend who can tig weld SS... I will have him take a look at it next week. for right now i am going to have the shop modify the rear exhaust opening to fit the current exhaust tips... Props to you mag black... I am glad you got yours installed |
i'm going to see if a local shop near the body shop can fabricate a y pipe for my quad tip... what exactly did they do with your exhaust... can you tell me the process? did they raised it up an inch, move it back 2 inches, etc...
|
I was told the same thing. They would have to cut the canisters and push them back. I was charged 9 hours of work for what I have now.
The work Granite State Dyno did was: cut tips all the way back to the canisters for a fresh start of piping. weld on a pipe and then add a branched pipe What I was told they were going to do: may have to cut canisters and push them back for more room build a y-pipe from canisters to the new tips "We don't want to hack the job, we want both tips to be functional" < == this was the selling point for me. |
Don't get me wrong, I think it looks decent. However, I paid a premium for functionality, which I didn't get.

I decided to go quad tip... I was quoted $500-750 (4-6 hrs) for SS piping and tig weld. The shop has all of the supply and can bend pipes. They can't do it till Tuesday though. I should have it back late next week if the exhaust shop gets the car done and back to autobody shop by Wednesday.

Dude tell me about it. I do have a friend that can you weld but time and convenience are my top priority
|
Dang bro... Why so long?
|
My pieces had to get cut and re-fiberglassed. My side skirts don't line up and came up too short.
|
FI can't make a quad tip for $800.. I bet they can make both muffler with duel tips so you would have quad tips for a decent price. You would then sell the original for $200 to recoup or whatever and you would be good to go. The only thing is that you will probably be on the waiting list. At least you know it will look damn good and function well.

Potentially dumb question. How are you going to mount your license plate? I don't want to drill into my rear bumper.
|
Not sure... I'll ask the shop on Monday.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do just yet. I might have them fiberglass the plate mounting clips onto the rear or install them somehow. |
