My GTR hood vents

4 Attachment(s)
I put GTR vents on my hood. I have not seen many people do this so I thought I would share my thoughts.

When I did this I used some pics of another car that had this done as a rough template. I did not like how low the vents were put. I decided to go a different route and put the vents higher up on the hood. I know that the point is to vent the heat and having the vents higher effectively takes any benefit away. I thought of this also and have started fab work on a duct to reach back into the engine bay that is still efficient. I will put more pics up soon when I get closer to finishing.

I also made the vents a little straighter than just hugging the curve of the hood. It is not completely straight but more of half straight and half the curve of the hood. This was the best compromise.

Please give me any feedback. Be aware that the pics with just the hood make the vents look really high on the hood. On the car I believe it looks perfect. I will be adding those pics very soon.

Looks good so far, post up pictures when you get finished.

What do you use to cut the hood?? And do you just use tape for the ducts?

A ultra thin cutting wheel was used with the hood taped where the cutting was done. The vents come with a 3M adhesive strip arond the vents. The ducts are going to be J-B Welded on the vents so they dont fall off. I will post more on that soon.

Nice work man. I ended up ordering a set of vents myself. Glad to see you ended up putting these in!

If anyone else has any pics of GTR vents on their Z please post them. I would love to compare and discuss. :tiphat:

Nice. I thought of doing the ducting, but it became a little to conveluted for me. I like how they came out
Here's a few pics

Wow they look awesome!

They look like if they were facing the other way they would do better at allowing heat out of the engine bay as opted to pushing air in at the back of your engine bay.

Have you noticed any coolant or oil temperature differences or these more for cosmetic purposes?

My GTR hood vents

Hey Felix/Mike, can you take pics of the underside of your hood. I'd like to see how they fit and look from there too. Im not too happy with the quality of my vents, but will be cleaning them up a bit.

I do not have the hood on right now. I would assume that the temps will not vary greatly. The duct work im doing should help more. I have a friend that has a different type of vent and you can see the heat escaping. Any little bit helps.

I will take a few pics of the underside on Sunday. I am going out of town for the weekend.

They're not designed to work that way, search NACA Ducts. If you don't have a proper temp gauge for H20, it would be hard to see the difference. I installed my guage after the vents so I don't know, but temps while driving will be minimally effected. What I do know is that they help tremendously once the car is parked. I use to go out 3 hrs after a drive to plug my car in (Battery Tender) & all kinds of heat would still pour out of the hood when I opened it. I don't have that problem anymore. So for me it was both function & fashion. ;)

For a real clean under hood job, look up MOZEN he did a great job with body filler & paint. Mines not too bad as I tried to minimize the ruffness, but I didn't go the extra steps to clean up the underside as he did.

How funny. I ordered a set this morning and then found this thread. I have been going back and forth about doing this. I'm in for some underhood pics.

I like your placement Felix! Any underhood pics? I'll be adding mesh to match the rest of my body kit.
