Ricer =

Enthusiast

While Syn can be a bit brash at times, I would not say he is RICE. Joining a thread to call someone rice may in fact be rice. Seems immature to me. Dip out with dignity and let's stay on track.

I'm very interested in how this turns out. Ive been planning custom quad canards for a while  but I have an 09. I'll be following this for sure :)

synolimit 04-28-2014 06:48 PM

Carbons been ordered and on the way. I paid more than I wanted because I decided on 3.5mm. Other canards are thinner from measuring friends but theirs are more 3D. Like steel is stronger when bent, so being only 2D I wanted thickness for the shape. Might be over kill but whatever. Also I bought from a company that sells mint pieces and scrap pieces. I couldn't get the perfect size, thickness, and weave I wanted in the scrap so I had to shell out $84 shipped for the mint one. O well, I'll post pics when it's here.

more ghetto than rice imo

synolimit 05-02-2014 02:32 AM

Yeah that downforce under braking is just so hood :ugh2:

critical 05-02-2014 02:41 AM

it'd be a great tailgater. that hood looks like a perfect place to grill some burgers.

synolimit 05-02-2014 02:50 AM

It is. Unfortunately it keeps my oil to cold.

Vichtz 05-02-2014 08:05 AM

That turned out great! I love it! I have a feeling my next DIY is going to involve some info from this thread

Excellent workmanship and you did a great job on the shape. Very professional looking. :tiphat:

The exposed pop-rivet heads detract from the professional look/fit of the canards themselves. I can't think of a good way to fix that ... and even if I could, you might not be interested ;)

Very nice. I like it.....

Wear a whole damn paper suit!! Jeans, a hoodie pulled up, gloves and full face respirator, and I still have carbon fiber all over my neck and hands and forearms. It's like fiberglass insulation and it hurts.

Should of got black anodized from somewhere.

Masterbeatty 05-02-2014 12:20 PM

That sh!ts rice as phuck......

J/K. Looks good dude. When are you heading to the track? What thickness did you end up getting for the CF?

scionide 05-02-2014 03:12 PM

To the ricer comments, while this may be a bit extreme for a street car, this is for functional reasons while tracking. It doesn't have to be pretty it just has to work! I guess all the guys running huge APR wings on their track cars are ricers..

Nice job :) likely refer here in the future when my 370 is no longer my daily and needs more aero.

martin82 05-02-2014 03:38 PM

they came out pretty nice!

That's because there are people on here that don't know the difference between functional and just for looks. That's why I loose a brain cell every time I see a car with stretched tires and hella flush setups on a 30k sports car. I respect everyone's style but to make ghetto or rice comments a on a functional mod, keep that crap to yourself.

Lol notice sig pic! Any track guy feels like me and any look guy feels like the negative above people.

3.5mm

Soon I hope. The goal was to just get the basics done before I head there. Unfortunently the more I've read or done the more I end up needing.

Like right now my suspension is messed up. I couldn't get toe right so I bought spl mid links. Now at 26.2" ride height on 285/35/18's my rear spring lifts out of the mid link if I get airborne or three wheels. So i need a coilovers rear shock in true type or OEM type so I can shorten the wheels travel when the suspension is unloaded (in true type I'll sell the mid link and springs for spl toe links). I could raise it up in the rear but I'll look severely racked since the front is lowered too.

Then there's brake pads. I can't go with these OEM ones. Then there's fuel starve issues. Need $1000 for punks pump.

I also still need a tune because of a slight knock I want to take care of and so many people want to see my car tuned with ported tb's, upper and lower manifolds so that's the next several hundred being spent :(. But I enjoy doing it for everyone and my motors safety is number one in my book.

SouthArk370Z 05-02-2014 04:44 PM

:roflpuke2: at the ricer comments. I wouldn't have something that big on the front of my car and even if I did, it wouldn't be raw CF. But it ain't my car so what I would or wouldn't do is immaterial. Synolimit did an excellent job - the fit and finish look very professional.

Too much for my taste? Yep (not that it matters).
Ricer? Nah. My definition of ricer includes the term "non-functional." If they were on my car, which seldom gets above 80 on straightaways and I don't think I've ever gone through a turn fast enough to need canards, that would be ricer.

future370zzz 05-02-2014 06:15 PM

Looks good man, been following your DIY mods. Like your other mods, everything looks professional.

Is that plasti-dip or vinyl? I thought your car was silver? Either way the matte white looks good. I thought about it but the vinyl guy quoted $3K.

I'm on fencing about either cutting a hole in the center of the hood like you or paint an aftermarket cf hood. Leaning towards custom hood vent (no pins to deal with and potential fitment issues). Need to cool the super hot engine for FI.

Jasonle 05-02-2014 06:26 PM

Nice. Been following the thread to see what you came up with. Looks good dude.

Haha yea I'm well aquatinted with that unfortunately I've worked with carbon fiber and fiber glass before in shorts and short sleeves. No good. I think I'll try working with ABS for my DIY. Maybe even lexan. We will see. Regardless yours looked great

Thanks.

Its dip. Yeah FI needs a vent for sure. The turbo needs a blanket too if you can fit it.

Could only sell them for a 13+ unless I got an older cars bumper for fitment. Plus I have enough with day job, second job and porting business. :icon14:
