Nismo rear deck spoiler on 370Z sport coupe

I own a 370Z touring coupe with sport option, I am considering replacing the stock rear hatch spoiler with the new 370Z Nismo spoiler. My concern is whether or not drilling new holes in the rear hatch is necessary. I do not want to drill holes and probably won't bother with it if I have to. Most Nissan parts reps don't know the answer to this question. One parts rep called a Nissan rep in my prescence and he stated that no drilling was needed and that after you remove the stock spoiler you utilize the existing holes to mount the new spoiler. I hope this is true, any feedback or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm in the same boat you have to drill new holes for the Nismo and some of the old holes from the orginal sport spoiler would not be covered by the Nismo

nogoodname 08-27-2009 05:54 PM

list is always going to be high
you can probably get it cheaper
with that price it probably painted to match your car so if you think about it its not that bad

Not painted to match the car. :(
The price is MSRP from Nissan so you might be able to get it for a bit less, but you still have to paint it.

Stevie Z 08-28-2009 08:40 AM

According to nissan, it comes painted to match every color. The price i was quoted was $850.00 U.S. and no drilling is required.

That's the Nismo S Tune spoiler. Quite a bit different from the real Nismo one..

Thanks! I actually like the S tune for the street.See I'am interested in one for my black sport package. The real deal is nice for the complete Nismo package.
If that price is right painted and having to drill no holes its a no brainer in my book!

Picked mine up for a total of $724 (painted) inc. s/h off this eBay shop. Install was $80 at a local shop.

The butt skidpad approves

2009 370 Z rear spoiler

I ordered a Nissmo spoiler from the dealer. He assured me that it was a Nissmo product. $850 plus tax got me a spoiler pre-painted the color of my car. The unit also came with heavier duty trunk lift shocks. Upon futher inspection, I found that it was not the Nissmo spoiler I was expecting. It was much smaller in height then the one attached the the Nissmo on the show room floor. Disappointed, I reluctantly requested to have it installed. Two hours later the service department calls me and says they can not install this spoiler. The spoiler requires new holes to be drilled in the rear hatch. That is not so much the problem. The problem is that the new spoiler will not cover existing holes used to secure the origional spoiler. So the dealer says that I need a body shop to accomplish this retrofit. My next stop is the best body shop in the area. The owner come out with a magnet and inspects the car. He finds and shows me that the hatch lid and the hood are fabricated using either aluminium or some composit material. He then tells me that welding aluminium is a job that requires a lot of heat and will likely warp the surrounding metal, if it is metal. He says he would not touch it. He recomends I return the spoiler and not modify the car. At this point, I do not know what to do. Help???? Do I return the spoiler? How do I find the "True" Nissmo unit? Will it fit my trunk lid? Will I need to drill more holes? Will the OEM holes be covered? Should I wate till I can find trunk lid and spoiler in junk yard????

Anybody with expirence please respond.

If you had botherd to read this thread from the beginning you would have known all this....

I know it's your first post and all, but educating yourself a bit by reading here can save you a lot of aggravation in the future..

Still unclear. I have a Touring Sport with the included "lip" style spoiler. If I purchase the Nismo S-Tune Spoiler which retails for about $800, will I have to drill new holes? or does this part use the existing holes?

thats the same thing jazz was talking about. the actual Nismo spoiler, i believe, cost a lot more than the S-Tune.

Sorta, but it's also gonna leave holes you'll need to fill...

LONDON2012 10-16-2009 10:35 AM

2400 for just the wing? WOW

Did you guys just get that price from the dealership or did you find that online somewhere? I'm wondering how much the NISMO body kit (no wing) would cost from nissan.

theDreamer 10-16-2009 10:41 AM

The Nismo (not S-tune) is inflated to create an exclusive item, basically they want you to buy the Nismo.

jazz.41 12-16-2009 07:14 AM

Update on Nissmo Wing

Although my local dealer was confused and unable to get me the true Nismo spoiler, I was able to get it from Z1 motorsports. Dustin from Z1 was able to contact a Nissan dealer who understood what I was looking for.

This Nismo wing mod is a little more involved then I origionally thought. I thought that I would purchase the wing and install it. No. First, the wing/spoiler come in sections. There is a spoiler base then the wing which mounts on top of the base. The wing itself was $700 and it comes unpainted. The rest of the parts including heavier duty trunk lid shocks will run you about $2,100 to $2,400 dollars. This is for parts only. You still have to get it painted.

I have not completed my spoiler upgrade, so I do not know if new holes will need to be drilled. Additionally, I do not know if the Nismo spoiler base will cover the OEM hole. If they do not, I may purchase a new rear trunk lid for a base 370 that comes with no rear spoiler, thus having no holes.

I forgot who posted the quote that Nissan wanted to make the Nissmo expensive so it would be exclusive could not be any more right. This is a very costly modification All for vanity and a little bit more down force at speed...

Hope my post helps.... Good luck

Just a quick update. I finally finish the Nismo rear spoiler project. Thanks to Z1 and a local premium body shop, the spoiler parts were painted and installed. No new drilling or filling of rear deck holes was required. The Nismo wing fit perfectly.

As an addition, I bought and had the shop install the Nismo side skirts. The car looks much different. Next is a front lip, once I find one I like. Several other mods are left to be installed. SS brake lines, heal toe pedal kit, short shifter and tow hook. I will update with pictures asap.

tjlazer 08-13-2010 09:03 PM

So you are saying that the Nismo edition spoiler (NOT THE S-TUNE) bolts right up to Sport Package spoiler holes? With no other drilling necessary? Nice!

post some pics!

Correct and ditto on the pics -- congrats, Jazz! :tiphat:

Looks like the least expensive way to do this is to get the cf knock off (unless there's a FRP one -- anybody?) and paint that to match. That should shave a few hudred off the cost.

Also, possible to get stronger hatch shocks for less?

jazz.41 08-14-2010 09:19 AM

Nismo Rear Spoiler

YES, This is the "Actual" Nismo rear spoiler. This is not the S-tune. I origionally purchased a s-tune model. Although it came painted, it did not fit the rear deck lid bolt hole pattern. More over, it was not the true nismo style I was looking for. With Z1's help, I was able to obtain the Nismo spoiler I wanted. $2,400 for parts, $900 for paint and install. The final look, priceless. I will send before and after pics in my next blog.

Fitment looks good but it looks too aggressive for the stock body.

Wheels and a drop would help alot.
