Tints

so who is tinting there Z's and what type and % are you going with?

Here is a link to US tint laws:

Auto Window Tint Laws - TintCenter.com

Are you going to follow the laws or just do wht you want. I got my G tinted limo (5%) on the back 3 and 35% on the front 2

shumby 12-15-2008 07:09 PM

Found this for Canada

http://solargard.com/Assets/PDFs/Per...aw%20Chart.pdf

nogoodname 12-18-2008 08:34 PM

5% tint for the windshield and 5% for the rest also

Slidefox 12-18-2008 08:38 PM

5% on everything, and 30% on the windshield...

nogoodname 12-18-2008 08:41 PM

okay no, 30% for side windows, 5% for the rears and rear windshield and no tints for the front !!

AK370Z 12-18-2008 09:12 PM

20% all around (2 sides + rear hatch) is the best IMO. NO front Windshield!!! That's a big NO NO!

shumby 12-18-2008 09:13 PM

i also find it depends on your interior color. you can get away with lighter with dark interior

TheManTheMyth 12-19-2008 12:40 AM

I am with AK ....20% all the way around....looks even and clean....not to dark at night either

3SeventyZ 12-20-2008 06:24 PM

I'll go with 5% all the way around. Maybe a slight tint on the windshield.

370ZINMO 12-21-2008 08:40 AM

Whatever is legal all around. Windshield=No,no.

Namir 12-21-2008 11:29 PM

25% all around, none on windshield, that's what sunglasses are for.
Although technically I can't have less than 50% on driver/passenger windows... but 50% is pointless. Stupid tint laws.

Welcome to TintLaws.com

Hope this helps some of you. :)

molamann 01-13-2009 01:18 PM

What % are you guys gonna get for those of you in CA? 70% limitation is just stupid and I'm wondering what % I can get away with.

TerribleONE 01-15-2009 02:12 AM

had 15% all the way around except windshield on my G37... gonna go with 5% this time and maybe 35 on the windshield..

frost 01-16-2009 04:52 PM

I've gone limo on every car for the last 9 years. I have not received a ticket as of yet; but I still expect to get one any day. Keeping the phoenix heat out of the car is worth a ticket every now and then imho.

Nailed it :)

Crash 01-18-2009 04:36 AM

The reason you're not supposed to tint the front windshield is because if (for whatever reason) you or someone else goes through the windshield, the glass will break apart instead of staying together (which is what caused a lot of decapitations). That's why it's extremely easy to break the glass from the inside of the car, but VERY difficult to break it from the outside.

I don't want to go through my windshield with or without tint, so I'll keep on wearing the seatbelt.
Not going through windshield = Plan "A" :icon17:

That sounds like a plan!

I'm planning on doing 30% all around and 60% on the front windshield. Ceramic Huper Optik is awesome.

Crash 01-18-2009 04:11 PM

LOL! Yeah, plan A is a good plan. I was just informing you why it's illegal. I (also) plan to tint my front a little... Not a lot though, just enough to keep glare out.

sprix! 01-20-2009 02:21 AM

5% tint is illegal unless you have a limo or some serious light sensitivity issues where I am. Looks cool in the daytime, but you will likely have considerable visibility issues at night. I know a guy with 5% tint on the sides of his car, and he has to roll down the windows at night to see anything on the sides. All of that, combined with the increased attention you will get from the police is just not worth it.
I personally have ~30% on the sides and 20% on the rear window. Windshield tint is just annoying IMO and pointless.

molamann 01-20-2009 09:50 AM

Just got 15% done on the sides and the back. This is my first tinted car and I'm still getting somewhat used to it. Hopefully the other cars are paying attention when I'm backing out at night. :<

G&M Performance 01-20-2009 07:33 PM

25% all around and a 32% strip on the windshield.

M.Bonanni 01-20-2009 10:10 PM

Just got mine done today. 25% all around (except windshield)...

inTgr8r 02-24-2009 03:49 PM

I'll go with 35% ceramic sides & rear.

ssqpolo 02-24-2009 05:23 PM

im 5% all around, NO winsheild!

batman_4 02-25-2009 01:05 PM

i will be going 25% (maybe 20%) on side windows only (exclude the little window behind the side windows) and 20% on the rear window.

chrishfic 02-25-2009 04:32 PM

having tint done right now as as we speak. I went with the solar gard ultra performance 75 tint film. Not really liking tint to begin with but this one is light and rejects 40% of solar energy as to limo tints 42% and rejects 99% uv rays same as limo. Keeping my car cooler and prevent my interior from fading was my concern. I had all windows done.

arcticreaver 02-27-2009 04:24 PM

i read the tint laws for california. it says that its legal if more than 70% of light is let in. does that mean i can get 25%-30% tints?

NO!!!!! The number percentage is based on how much light gets in! For example, 25% tint means it only lets 25% light in! 70% is NY law too, it basically is what comes out from the factory! Anything more than that is illegal in NY and CA! Believe it or not, the factory puts a tint on your car windows when it comes out which only lets 70% light in, if you have ever used a tint meter you will see!

SoCal 370Z 02-27-2009 05:02 PM

Who is tinting their front window?

(Yes, you have it done if you know the right people. Window tinters' do it to their own vehicles, but they typically use the lightest tint to avoid being pulled over. They do it to help save the dash.)

damn well that's just sucks. too bad i live in CA.

MightyBobo 02-28-2009 08:49 AM

Tinting the windshield is retarded, IMHO. Buy some sunglasses.

Yea, like FL I believe has no tint law and most other states are less strict than NY and CA!

theDreamer 02-28-2009 09:13 AM

Those of you in Cali, just claim that the 20% tint is some new solar panel and it absorbs light and stores it in the battery or something. You have all the energy nuts, mostly, so I am sure they would love that idea. ;)

Burnrubber101 02-28-2009 12:28 PM

I got 15s all around

It's not about glare, as it is the lightest tint—it's about the sun damage to the interior through the front windshield.

brianmac229 02-28-2009 01:27 PM

Anyone have a picture of a pearl white with tint?

Oh .. Florida has tint laws .. they were big on enforcing it in the 90's but have become pretty lax these past few years. Note, however, my cousin drove his with 5% all the way around (including windshield) for 4 years before getting ticketed and thus having to remove the tint from the windshield.
