What do you think?
I have a Magnetic Black 2011 Base+Sports. I originally wanted to go with black chrome emblems, but I think the off-black emblems sitting on the deep black paint wouldn't look too hot. So, I was thinking of using a Duplicolor metalcast coating on the oem emblems. I was thinking red metalcast for the hamburgers and 370Z lettering - what say you, internet?

Came out good, nice job

I like the colored lettering. Black letters on red emblem? Vice versa?
|
Seriously, I still prefer black. But red is an intereting idea might actually go well on the black z. How about gold? Post up some pictures after you done.

Looks sharp!

Aww, this got moved. :bs:
/actually it makes sense, just less visibility back here |
I want the blue! :o
|
I used this on my stillen gen 3's. purple. You better be a pro because it is a laquer and is incredibly difficult to make it all the same color. One millisecond too long in one area and you get a dark spot. And yes, if you're wondering, my gen 3's do look like I DIY. SO!

Looks good
|
I'd leave them. Looks excellent with the letters left black
|
I dunno makes it look like a clown or rudolph. That is what I see anyways. I say black, black chrome, or leave it chrome. The red looks good on the rear with the tails but no so much the front.
|
I think the red looks pretty sharp  I'm looking at using their Smoke Metalcast on my front tower strut brace.
|
Well done!

Haha yea the blue may work better. Have you thought about doing only the red or blue on the rear and do black or black chrome on the front? Especially if you are going to black out your headlights. That may turn out perfect.

Testing phase complete
Well, I've taken some candle holders we've had in a bathroom for the last 5 years and used them for testing. Both came out exactly as I had hoped. I believe I will go with the red first. Then, later this year, when I drop the Invidia exhaust on with the rolled titanium tips, I might swap to the blue to match. (Or keep it red)
Criticisms and opinions very welcome. Ref: I apologize about the crappy iPhone pics in advance. Before - cleaned up and polished the holders: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7363/8...151690f7_b.jpg Then I washed with a bit of acid, then wiped lightly paint thinner/water (20%/80%) and began spraying: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7329/8...66c3b2b2_b.jpg Then I stood them up to one another. Damn it! I didn't spray heavy enough to gloss it!: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7453/8...cb4e3706_b.jpg Time to break out the polish and buff for 15 minutes. Getting there: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7401/8...357dcb61_b.jpg Not too shabby!! Time to do the other in blue, spaying a little heavier to reduce polish time. Wax and shine: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7426/8...b29d7e71_b.jpg Please let me know what you think! |

A friend of mine did this and it looked really good but it started to fade after a few weeks. Don't know if it was cause of the sun or the heat.

That's good to know. Now I will change up my process. Stages of painting: 1.prep surface 2.clear primer 3.spray 4.clear UV coating The process will hopefully help prevent chipping and fading. |
|
Good idea! You need to do a DIY definitely.

I initially thought the same thing about putting black chrome emblems on my black car. It actually looks really good in my opinion. The colored emblems, while very original, look a little funny imo

I think that's s good idea I'm not a fan of the red

Yeah, that red is killing me on the front end. I can't stop laughing. So, wipe with some thinner and copper plate it or.......
bake my headlamps and fix it another route? http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7297/8...1c8e2f7f_b.jpg |
I don't think that'll fix the rodolph propaganda

Rudolph the red nosed race-car.
Had a very shiny nose. And if you ever saw it, that means that the car was slow. All of the other race-cars, Used to laugh and call it names. They never let the race-car, Join in any SCCA games. Then they met the car one eve, And they laughed with glee. Then the race-car started its engine, And the other cars were history. |
