GOT RID OF THE NASTY SILVER Handles

3 Attachment(s)
First of it's not gonna be easy. YOu must first remove the 10 mm bolts on the corner (2) and one torx on drivers side. The passenger side wont have this. Remove the door handle cable and uncrew the 2 phillips screws w/ plate to remove door switch. Re install those 2 screws so you wont loose them back on take them off when your ready to disassemble them. Remove door tumbler rod, just a clip. When you got the driver's side off remove the tumbler. It's retained by a 10 mm bolt. Remove the lil plate holding the rear full molding. Remove the black molding. Heres the tricky part you must put a flat head screw driver in the lil slot when the handle is completely open to keep it from closing. zip tie ito the main arm and anchor. This will keep it from closing and will help on holding it when your shooting it with paint. Then cut the zip to shoot the top. YOu will do this a couple of times to ensure all paint and clear is on. Unfortunately there is two square gaskets on the handle that will make the paint come off. I went to and cut those of a wrecked 350z and 3m glued it tomake it stick to prevent it from cracking the rest of the paint and two so it wonts rip the other gasket. Here's pics of the finished products.

:icon17: shaved door handle mod?

I like it! I think the OEM silver handle goes great with Brilliant Silver color. Any other colors, not so great. I wonder how it would look in Monterey Blue....

k20z3 07-22-2009 09:38 PM

sick!

frost 07-22-2009 09:44 PM

I like it man. I think black would have been very complimentary to the rims however.

jose_o9 07-22-2009 11:22 PM

Photoshopped it didnt like. Im picky. Next stop ima change the 370z emblem to a blacked fairlady z emblem.

Well done! I've been waiting for ages to see what this would look like and now I can - and it looks......................

...........EXCELLENT!

I've always had reservations about the fridge door handles - I know Nissan think they're a 'design feature', but to me they're tacky.

I hope the paint job holds up, with all the abuse it will get - but fr now I must say it looks really good mate.

A mod that is well worth doing.

Did you take any pics as you did the job, or not?

Glad my car's silver already.. I'm good to go lol.

fly yellow 07-23-2009 12:47 AM

Man you have been busy. It looks good, but now I realize that it isn't the just color of the stock door handles that bothers me, it's just the whole unit. I think the car would look a lot better and cleaner if it just had flush door handles like a Corvette.

RCZ 07-23-2009 08:48 AM

:tup:Jose, BIG props for not just crying about something, instead going out there and DOING something about it yourself.

We need more people like you around here.

edeeZee 07-23-2009 11:02 AM

Am I the only one who likes this car completely stock?...To each his/her own.

tooohip 07-23-2009 11:23 AM

Think I prefer my silver handles, but thanks for the DIY...

I'm not real crazy about the door handles on the GT-R. To be honest, outside of the performance, I'm not real crazy about anything on the GT-R. That car looks dated to me. No offense to anyone that owns one.

+1. Looks great stock, so why change it?

6MT 07-23-2009 02:08 PM

My question is Why? Why would you remove the door handle?

Mike 07-23-2009 02:13 PM

the body shop should be finishing mine up today and I pick it up tomorrow.

jose_o9 07-23-2009 08:45 PM

You asjed why sir?....because i am unique and i dont like anyone with the same car. I always want to have a special touch. Why settle for ordinary. My sense of style might not appeal to some but thats okay. My car is mine and i only need to please myself. I hope that answers much of you guys' question and comments.....think out of the box.

VCuomo 07-23-2009 08:49 PM

I wonder if they can be powdercoated with a black chrome finish - that would look cool with Platinum Graphite or Magnetic Black.

jose_o9 07-23-2009 08:54 PM

Im always thinking of new stuff. Ima powder coat it yellow. Then just paint the face. You need to have the lip powder coated when it comes time for tire changing. Wheels are just temporary to let everybody know.

Not to bag on your post, but looks are completely subjective. So unless someone does something really audacious like spinner rims, just let people roll with what they like :)

He probably "bagged" it because the title of this thread states that the stock handles are "Nasty." ;-) Again, subjective. ;-)

Yeah, but two people disagreeing about something subjective never leads anywhere. Neither one are going to change their minds. :)

the door handles, its probably doable, I don't think they will melt at 400, but I didn't want to play with mine. I don't really like the black chromes, they just look gray metallic. I've yet to find a black chrome that is dark enough for my tastes.

LOOKS GREAT, I think I'll keep the silver on my platinum graphite for now, but I will probably do this in the future.

Hey I lowered your car for you in PS, thought you and others would like to see how it would look with your painted wheels

LiquidZ 07-23-2009 10:13 PM

I personally like the contrast of the silver against my black Z.

edeeZee 07-24-2009 11:16 AM

I don't think the stock silver handles are ugly nor conspicuously odd. I think they look great.

I'm not here to be judgmental nor label others' tastes as "poor." It's your car, I could care less if you put spinners or wire wheels on it, airbrushed your g/f or b/f on the hood, put airbags or hydraulics on the suspension, used velvet for your interior, used a chain-link steering wheel, put "stripper" mudflaps instead of splash guards, used a 80's limo boomerang spoiler, put a early 90s cellphone antenna on the rear glass, and the likes...but I love my car completely stock, with maybe the exception of the "high" height (I hate the big gaps in the wheel wells). Hell, I like the stock Rays more than most aftermarket JDM wheels.

I usually think that gorgeous cars such as the 370 don't need anything in terms of cosmetic enhancements. Just my 2-cents...

fly yellow 07-24-2009 12:49 PM

^^ Those 80s limo boomerang spoilers were actually television antennaes.

This is crazy to me, but I'm glad you got your car the way you like it.

CBRich 07-24-2009 06:36 PM

I think it looks great. To each his own. I need to consider this on my red Z.

tonmed123 07-24-2009 07:09 PM

I got a red z too. I'd consider a Carbon Fiber replace ment of the handles. I wonder how long the paint will last without commingof if we paint them though. I guess we will C. But they look good. I wouldnt mind painting mine either. 2 cents

phelan 07-25-2009 02:33 AM

dunno if i'd red the handles, but i really am thinking of painting the handles to match my wheels. which will be gunmetal or something with a color match pinstripe.
