storage compartment in dash

How did the fellow Z owners who didnt buy the NAV package, put the that silly storage compartment in the dash into good use?

Caravanshaka 07-21-2009 12:10 PM

I use it for storage :bowrofl:

I've seen a GPS in there, but that's about it for creativeness at this point.

theDreamer 07-21-2009 12:10 PM

So far I have found nothing I want to put in there.
I have started to take the contents of my pockets and put it in the center console, everything else is either to big or sits in the seat next to me.

Edit: I always have people ask what is in it or try to open it and fail. It does seem to be difficult to open for people oddly.

Chupacabra 07-21-2009 12:11 PM

I stash my weed in there.

j/k... I leave my ipod in there when not in use... but yeah their is not much space.

Modshack 07-21-2009 12:26 PM

I stuff my charge cords and Nav bracket in there..

m4a1mustang 07-21-2009 01:13 PM

I keep two pairs of sunglasses in there. Pretty handy.

AK370Z 07-21-2009 01:17 PM

I keep my SIRIUS channel guide and keys in there. Also my USB port is in there as well.

zZSportZz 07-21-2009 01:21 PM

My car monkey sleeps in there

desertzrat 07-21-2009 01:28 PM

Since I cant get my Homelink to synch with my garage door i put the old opener there.

280z/300zx 07-21-2009 01:31 PM

Thats where I keep my Rayban's. Aside from that I don't keep anything else in the car so my center console is empty as is the glove box.

cave vulture 07-21-2009 02:39 PM

I break my CDs in half, so they fit in there......

CCCLXXZ 07-21-2009 02:43 PM

What are these things you call "CD's"?

:rofl2:

cave vulture 07-21-2009 02:50 PM

Compact Discs (CDs) .....

I would have to break my records into fourths to get them to fit, stupid technology. :p

Bdub 07-21-2009 03:04 PM

Is there a way to take off the storage lid completely and possibly use it as a place to put say a Garmin GPS or Archos in there

I have seen people take it out, not sure anyone directly here, but not sure how they did it. I see no screws or anything, but they are probably underneath the covers in there which means we have to tear that stuff out.

TX_370 07-21-2009 03:46 PM

I use it for my sun glasses and storing those punch cards for restaurants... eventually i might get something free :ugh2:

IDZRVIT 07-21-2009 03:55 PM

I keep my Craftsman toolbox in there.:icon18:

shabarivas 07-21-2009 04:01 PM

iTouch / chords / wallet now and then :)

kannibul 07-21-2009 04:01 PM

Prescription sunglasses are the only thing I can think of to put in there.

Since Oklahoma has so many turnpikes, a pike pass could fit in there so it's not being advertised to would-be-thieves.

CBRich 07-21-2009 05:53 PM

Sunglasses + Garage Door Opener

thispecialk 07-21-2009 07:31 PM

i stuff my change coins in there

caneman88 07-21-2009 07:35 PM

Good place for your walther 380 auto :shakes head:

eddieconfetti 07-21-2009 08:44 PM

my wallet, cellphone because of the car bluetooth, cigarettes.

FricFrac 07-21-2009 08:53 PM

I'm proud to say I have NOTHING in there. You should see my Jeep though :/

370Zilla 07-21-2009 09:04 PM

My baby Glock.

kannibul 07-21-2009 09:47 PM

FWIW, the center console lower area pulls out easily - where the 2nd "cup holder" is...

CharlieFoxtro 07-22-2009 11:34 AM

Mounted a Garmin 255W inside and wired 12vdc to it. Works out well and is kinda neat that you can just close the door and hide it. Even though I bought a touring, I purposely didn't get it with the nav package. Now that I'm older and don't total 'em every few years anymore, I keep cars for a long time. Electronics become obsolete in just a few years. The Z replaced a 21-year-old RX-7 (with a cassette deck!).

DIGItonium 07-22-2009 12:47 PM

I store my gloves for when I hit the gym. I'm still puzzled to why our glove box is so inadequate.

Equinox 07-22-2009 03:35 PM

So your glove box is too small to store your gloves. That, sir, is ironic.

sylenze 07-22-2009 04:33 PM

does anybody have the maximum dimension that can be placed on the cubby... I was wondering if the pioneer f90bt or the eclipse avn726e can fit when the whole area is hallowed out... kind of like the amplified 370z audio build but instead of putting just a monitor, place an in-dash navigation system instead...

theDreamer 07-22-2009 04:49 PM

I think the front is big enough, but as you go backwards (away from the driver seat towards the front of the car) the area gets smaller. Beyond that of what can fit an in-dash nav unit.

The glovebox conveniently stores some docs and CDs... barely much room for my gloves.

dcrew1x 09-07-2009 01:02 PM

I use it for my wallet and sunglasses :p

dainedazz 09-07-2009 01:05 PM

ZeeBabar 09-09-2014 06:14 PM

Spare condoms.

joel mac 09-09-2014 07:17 PM

Fuzzzy 09-09-2014 07:50 PM

Holy necrobump, Batman!

P's_Z 09-09-2014 09:59 PM

:icon18:

But ill bite... Sunglasses!

Rusty 09-10-2014 03:13 AM

I cut a hole in the back of mine. Shaped it just right. My S&W M&P 40 fits perfect. The barrel goes through the hole. All I got to do is open the cubbie door, and wrap my hand around the grip. And then I'm ready. :D Also keep a spare clip in there too. :D
