Does anyone make a replica? I know you can buy the brake ducts but I like the whole thing (grille included). If there isn't a replica yet, why not?

FL 4Motion 11-13-2012 06:52 PM

besides the brake ducting, what's different from the oem nismo front fascia?

dmhenderson 11-13-2012 06:54 PM

Now I have to go look at mine. It looks different like there's extra "stuff" going on in the grille area but it could just be the two-tone paint job. Now I'm 2nd guessing myself.

I think you need to walk around your nismo a little more, the picture you posted is the same as the one on your car right now.

Only different it's not black

FL 4Motion 11-13-2012 06:55 PM

/\ that looks damn good btw.

dmhenderson 11-13-2012 07:03 PM

What are the part numbers for those vents and where can I buy them? Do I have to buy them direct from Nissan? Rusty's thread is a bit long.

Edit: Also, you're right. The paint job was throwing me a bit. It just has vents. Those would look fantastic on my car.

99% sure you need to order direct from nissan for the nismo brake ducts. Z1 MIGHT be able to source them for you but you'd have to call them.

no idea on part numbers.

dmhenderson 11-13-2012 07:07 PM

I've used Z1 before. I'll give them a call tomorrow. Any idea on what the pricepoint is? I'm cringing because "lol OEM nissan".

get ready to bend over cause until someone makes a replica, you're going to be looking at $6xx dollars iirc. Still, it's real dry carbon so for me, if/when I need braking cooling, then they'll be going on the car.

Let us know what you find out. I'm interested in getting a set of these as well.

PM Rusty, that GM Nismo is his.

dmhenderson 11-13-2012 07:18 PM

$600 plus professional install. Ok that'll be my spring project.

it'll look great, someone else, i think rusty, has them and it really looks awesome.

I refuse to believe this is true. Can't we just buy the ducts and have a body shop fit them? If the price tag is ~2k that's too much for what I'd get out of it. Honestly, I just liked the look of the front bumper with those vents installed

GaleForce 11-13-2012 07:31 PM

You can cut the bumper yourself. Don't need a Bodyshop to do that. Measure twice, cut once...

dmhenderson 11-13-2012 07:34 PM

See I used to beleive that was the case but after paying uh...$900 to correct my headlight catastrophe, I'm inclined to let a professional shop do these sorts of things moving forward.

I'm thinking of picking up an old 240z I can restore where I won't have a stroke if I botch something.

My main question is "do I need the stillen brake kit and 123182318281niner other parts" to make this work because if so I'll just forget about it.

did you post this from your personal photobucket? i've got no problem with people linking to my pictures but i prefer for them to stay on my website...

also, that is, in fact, an OEM front bumper and $600 for the set sounds about right. that doesn't include the ducting to the brakes either. might want to contact DWW Motorsports, the shop that built Brian's car, for more information since they run it on their car.

dmhenderson 11-13-2012 07:47 PM

It was linked from another post on this forum located here:

http://www.the370z.com/2013093-post1565.html

It isn't from my photobucket but I don't think that reposting an image from another thread here counts as image leeching but maybe that's just me.

dmhenderson 11-13-2012 07:48 PM

Yeah $600 for the set + 130 for the ducting kit + install sounds a LOT more reasonable. I'm going to poke around and see what I can find.

appreciate it :tiphat:

dmhenderson 11-13-2012 07:58 PM

Sure, I wasn't attempting to steal pictures or anything. Really love the look quite a bit though and I've been itching for a new project.

HKYStormFront 11-13-2012 08:13 PM

oh no man, don't get me wrong. i was just trying to find out who put it up on their photobucket. i've got no problem with people sharing my pictures, quite the opposite. i'd just prefer they use my website (which has a handy share button) to do it since it brings traffic to my site :)

DCNISMO 11-13-2012 08:26 PM

The Stillen ducting kit is made to work with the non Nismo bumper. They will not directly work with the oem Nismo ducts. I think you have to make your own hose kit to use these ducts and im not sure Nissan has a hose kit for public sale either.

Even then, 600 bucks for two small pieces of carbon fiber is ridiculous. I wish someone would make some replicas of these.

there are people working on it... not sure how close they are to production. to make them out of real carbon was not going to save much money.

He's right. Check out CFE's prices for say..a carbon shifter boot cover. I can see $600 for those two pieces easy. Love the look but want a "real" number (that isn't $2000) to get it up and running.

Nope, learned my lesson. The cost of fixing my mistakes is much greater than if I had just paid someone to do it and hung out to learn what to do.

Bah! If I can shave the front hamburger, you can cut a couple of holes in your bumper.

dmhenderson 11-13-2012 10:16 PM

Ok I shaved my front (and rear) hamburgers off just fine for the EVO-R emblems but the headlight disaster was... well it was a thing.

dic-k-ing (this is a filtered word???) up the front bumper would be more expensive than replacing a pair of headlights so I'll probably use my guys at D&V who work on lambos and like doing this kind of stuff plus they don't mind letting me hang around while they do their thing.

Go to page 6 of my thread. That's where the brake duct install starts. :D If you have any questions about the install. Let me know. The only thing I ran into is the placement of the windshield washer bottle on the right side. Not a lot of room to put the brake hose through there. Any hose bigger then the one in the Stillen kit won't fit unless you remove the washer bottle. And I had to shorten the back of the ducts too.

Part numbers:
Left: 41153-RTZ40, List $612.00
Right: 41152-RTZ40, List $612.00

Damn! That's sweet that you're close to a high end shop like that! Lucky guy!

Are you guys missing the fact the RC has an actual screen grille in the opening? That would not be hard to replicate at all. These guys sell all the materials needed:

customcargrills.com - Custom Car & Truck Grills - Billet & Mesh Grill Inserts

Sadly, I'm actually thinking about it.

dmhenderson 11-14-2012 09:20 AM

Yeah I saw that. Sexy as hell god I need to stock screwing around with my car.

Rusty - as I posted on your build thread, great job!

Thank you for posting the duct part numbers. Where did you order them from?

Thanks! :tiphat:

Dustin@Z1 11-14-2012 09:28 AM

The grille is not going to be something easily had. That grille shown in the first post does not even exist anymore on THAT exact car. The NISMO RC shown in that image was pulled apart and redone to meet Grand-AM specs. Many of the parts shown in the original media pictures of the RC have either been changed or completely scrapped.

Like all other NISMO RC components, getting them will take an act of Congress and most likely deep pockets to get as Japan does not easily release those parts to just anyone...Not event to Nissan North America.

As far as the CF Ducts go, there has been discussion by a few parties who have looked into reproducing them. No ETA or final word on pricing.

dmhenderson 11-14-2012 10:02 AM

Thanks for weighing in. I'll put the idea back on the shelf for now as you're the authority on the subject. My girlfriend will be pleased.

HKYStormFront 11-14-2012 01:50 PM

i'm pretty sure doran racing was talking about making some along with their uber-awesome UCA's. might want to shoot BJ (Dwnshft) a pm and let him know you are interested in a set if they ever go to market with them. knowing what kind of market there is, even if it's for a one-time-limited-run production, can never hurt. i think they were also going to sell the ducting kit as well which included a bracket that goes onto the spindle to hold the end of those ducts.
