I already contacted the vendor and we're starting the investigation process on WTF happened..

There was no damage at all on the box and the lip was EXTREMELY well bubble-wrapped.. My only conclusion is it came like this directly from INGS...

BTW, it is a GENUINE INGS+1 part, not a replica/knock-off..

Extremely frustrated right now...

** UPDATE 24-FEB-2013 **

The vendor had a new CF lip ordered to replace the damaged one. I was supposed to receive a new lip in January. As of a couple of days ago, I received a notice from my vendor saying that they had received 2 CF lips, BOTH looking like crap as well. At this time, I'm not interested on a replacement anymore. Working out on a refund.

EX350 11-02-2012 07:49 PM

Sorry to see that, bro. I would be heated, too! Thanks for the heads up about Ings+1, though. And their parts aren't exactly inexpensive, either.

370Z JT 11-02-2012 08:09 PM

Is it a gel coat issue?

LakeShow 11-02-2012 08:22 PM

Damn, that's really bad. Looks like low quality work on that one.

king12sky 11-02-2012 08:46 PM

Now time to get the TOP SECRET ones. =))!!

Liquid_G 11-02-2012 10:09 PM

any chance it was re-boxed? maybe it got crushed and the shipper re-boxed it? just a guess. sucks dude.

Amuse370z 11-02-2012 10:09 PM

Alright, everyone now has permission to buy INGS+1 replica products for the rest of their life.

snowhite370 11-02-2012 10:14 PM

*box tears open and rubs against the floor under another box.....shipping guy pulls out a New box and throws it in* :wtf2:

urdeliveryguy 11-02-2012 10:21 PM

damn, just curious but who was the shipper?...:wtf2:

Shotta 11-02-2012 10:22 PM

Looks like a seam mark from a low quality vacuum bagging operation. I highly doubt this has anything to do with the shipping company and everything to do with the manufacturer.

Mr&Mrs 11-02-2012 10:56 PM

Hmm wonder if it could be sanded out and cleared. You should have it clear coated anyway to protect fading/yellowing. My Zele lip had a little of this along the seam as well. After my painter got ahold of it it looks fine. Mine was not near this bad though.

Trips 11-02-2012 10:56 PM

Man thats gotta suk :(

Hope all goes well in getting it replaced

I agree. I have personally seen lots of CF being molded and there is what I would call "overhang". It has to be cut flush then polished. People have to understand CF before the resin is added it comes in sheets then it is layed with excessive overhang to compensate for loss due to concaves and convexs in the mold, the the resin is formed over top, then pressed onto the mold. Yours looks like it was trimmed but not polished at the mold line. I would be pissed but at the same time every once in a while stuff like this gets passed QC, even for the best of them. If this is what happens with 8 out of 10 of their lips then I would steer clear, but this seems to be a freak situation, but in the end will come down to how the company handles the oversite and refund. Hell even money can come out with flaws once in a blue moon. But unlike money, this overlook doesnt make it worth more money. LOL, but yeah this shouldnt have left the factory.

Just for example:

He can go this option, but then again he shouldnt have to pay out of pocket any more.

Me personally, I would find a local company that specializes in carbon fiber work and see what they say. If they conclude it is a lack of polishing at the last stage, get a description of the problem and a quote for them to fix it. Then contact Ings and see if they will mail off a check for the carbon company to fix it plus send a bonus part for you having to wait so long then go as far as fixing it. Win for both. Even if they dont send a part, which I think would show that they are sorry for the inconvience, it would still be cheaper than paying for shipping both directions.

Option 2 would be that they overnight a replacement, a return shipping tag, plus money for the box so they can see it themselves and find out how this slipped by. I mean it is pretty obvious that it is not some scratch. It is a prefect line around the whole thing. Clearly the modeling line.

Japanjay 11-03-2012 01:28 AM

Looking at the pictures in more depth. That should be more then enough for them to see it is the mold line. The top side and bottom side of the line clearly shows two different sides of carbon. Just look at the squares at the line.

Mr&Mrs 11-03-2012 02:26 AM

I know he shouldnt have to pay more to make it right. I just suggested getting it cleared if he had not already planned to do so, because if not it will look like crap in a couple years anyway. His may be in to bad of shape for sanding and clearing to fix it.

Retropete 11-03-2012 06:17 AM

Ordered the same lip 10 week wait - looks almost exactly the same.
Received mine 2 weeks ago - same batch?
Finish is shocking.
Waiting for response from vendor where I ordered mine.

rAiN 11-03-2012 06:50 AM

Wow that sucks. Im a little confused here, is the lip an actual carbon fiber? Or just carbon layed on top of fiberglass?

2ndChance 11-03-2012 12:39 PM

It is just the mold line where the two CF parts meet.

I have the shineauto lip kip and the sideskirts have this 3mm black spacer between the parts. But it does look quite smooth and well finished and not like this one. I realized it was there after 2 months, if you dont get close is impossible to notice.

This has nothing to do with shipping.

And most likely this lip is made with fiberglass with a cf layer on top.

pty370z 11-03-2012 04:40 PM

I'm not going to say who the shipper was, even though it's not one of the BIG shipping companies we're all familiar with. The one that was used, first time I ever heard of them.

HOWEVER, that being said, this does NOT look like a shipping company issue AT ALL.

The box that I received had the INGS+1 logo imprinted on the box so it's really hard for the shipper to replace a box like that. As I said, there was no damage at all on the box and the lip was extremely well bubble-wrapped.

The lip does look like it's carbon fiber, doesn't look like CF layed fiberglass.

I did not order mine through Vivid Racing, different vendor. It worries me even more now that I read someone else just had the same issue (Retropete). Never expected this from a company like INGS+1.

What complicates this situation EVEN MORE is that I'm not in the US. I'm in Panama, Central America. The lip was shipped to an address in Miami, FL and then my freight forwarder company brought it here.

Shipping this lip back to the US (or wherever else, for that matter) would be EXTREMELY expensive. Probably as expensive as the lip itself.

I don't know how this is all going to work out but I'm gonna make sure it does.

Mr&Mrs 11-03-2012 04:42 PM

Get it refinished local like I said it is just the gel coat. Then have them pay for it.

Yeap, I have that too, with the fancy logo and the serial number as well..

Too bad the quality of the product itself didn't match up to expectations..

Retropete 11-04-2012 01:52 PM

Same here - have INGS certificate and instructions.
Definitely not a reseller or shipping issue - poor quality control and finish on INGS side.

Thechidz 11-04-2012 01:56 PM

edit: nevermind just reread title. I thought you were saying you received it and waited 8 weeks to open it

TheGreatOne 11-04-2012 06:03 PM

Oh man, that would be depressing to see after such a long wait.

I actually sold my ING+1 replica in FRP just so I could pony up more cash to get the real deal from INGs in CF

I imagine when you are paying $700+ for a lip they would re-cehck that stuff....perhaps it was a rushed batch? I know most of these are not built till there is an order...no excuse though

Retropete 12-17-2012 04:41 PM

Any updates?

XwChriswX 12-17-2012 04:47 PM

I just had my Ings GT wing installed a few weeks ago, and went over it 3 times to make sure there wasn't any cracks or anything, didn't see any.

Sorry to hear about your lip and hope you can get it fixed. :(
