Carbon Fiber Hood + Hatch
So when bullitt dropps his car off we will also be making a CF hood (oem and if possible a vented one) And a hatch.
Yes the parts are made from aluminum but aluminum is not lighter or close to as light as carbon fiber or even fiber glass. Since we are for sure making these two parts who would like to get in line? The hood and hatch should be around $700 - $800. This is all we are making for the time being. hood, hatch, fenders, roof, spoiler, and some overlays. If these few items go well we will progress to lip kits and more parts. :happydance: Hood 1. 2. 3. 4. 5 Hatch 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. |
my man......every time i see a new thread from you.....i think pics are coming.....lol

I agree 100% with RCZ about the wins and fails. The supra, and GTR hood look great, if the style is anything like that I'm deff down
Vented hoods look great and hopefully somewhat functional.....but what is with this chicken wire used in the openings ( so very cheap looking ) enough so, it puts me right off.
Something I've been wondering about these vents...
How do you prevent dirt and grime from getting in the engine bay with all the vents? |
Will you need hood pins for these hoods or will they latch up just as the stock ones??
Later on after the major mods, i would be interested in the OEM hood if it latches up like stock... |
It may latch up to the stock it depends on the design of the hood and if the hood latch is able to be purchased from the dealer. If we have to create a new hood latch that would cost thousands so then hood pins might be the better way to go. THats somthing we have to see after the hood is created.
Although hood pins are recomended. These kinda hood pins. http://www.gruppe-s.com/Ben/exterior/evo/aerocatch.jpg |
The biggest thing for me on all these threads, is that without actual (or at least reasonably approximated) weight data, it's tough to make a decision on whether I would do it or not. If I can see the actual numbers (Shed X pounds from a given area of the car for Y dollars) it's easier to know whether the mod is worth it for me.
We will have the numbers after the products are made.
how much just for the hood/
The price of the hood would be $700 - $800 for OEM and maybe a little more if its vented like the supra above.
also another one that agrees with RCZ with the Win and Fails
i want them NOW! depending on looks price and when their available im down for a hood and maybe hatch

That Vorsteiner hood for the AW E46 M3. :postwhore: :yum:
In fact, be for us Z owners what Vorsteiner is for the BMW's. :D |
That picture above is blue CF!

1. similar to Zele's with separate front splitter separate opening for oil coolers 2. similar to Zele's with functioning aero rear diffusor |
If anyone's seen, the sunline racing Carbon fiber roof is pretty sick, i plan on getting it as soon as i get my white 370
or you can pick up John's for a third the price.

We will match or beat (if possible) the quality for a better price. We see no reason to price it almost $900.
Our introductory price of $500 is a price that most companies would not want to beat. And after a few are sold the price goes to only $650.00 |
can you make a carbon fiber roof roof instead of a roof cover?

I dont know how cost effective a real roof replacement will be for them to make... I'd venture a guess and say its not going to be viable..
A CF roof would be a few lbs leighter. But the roof would cost about 1000. Then to install could be another $1000.
granted it is the most important sprung mass you can remove, a few pounds will be hard to justify for $2000 John. THats just my opinion..
I think the hood is pretty light to begin with, no?
As was the case with my EVO IX, the carbon fiber hood was just as heavy as the stock aluminum one. I think an official "weight comparo" needs to be done here to justify the $$. Unless of course you just like the look of CF, then that's different. I like CF just as much as the next guy but I'm more interested in weight savings and could care less about having CF on my car just for looks. JMHO. |
Again. We will be weight the pieces after they are made lol.
Don't forget to weigh the pieces. Please put a note on the parts to remind you. :D
i'm just saying if someoen made a real cf roof, it would be the f-ing s.
interested in purchasing but would like to see on someones car. Cuz my PG 370z with black rims and a carbon fiber hood sounds niceeeee =]
We're working hard to get these done :D
Any updates?
How about a finished product?
