Plasti Dip Gloss White

Ordered all the parts I needed and plan on doing my Nismo stockies, hopefully this weekend. I'm scared :wtf2:

I ordered 4 white cans, 1 black, 1 red, 3 gloss, and the spray can holder for easier spraying. I figure I'll get my "white" offset look until I purchase some white wheels. Also, might help protect the stocks from dirt, grime, and any kind of rock chips.

Any tips from other plasti-dip users?

i had white plasti-dip on my wheels and let me tell you they are horrible to deal with. if you have ever used black plasti-dip you will see that the white plasti-dip is much "thinner" than the black plasti-dip. i used about 4 cans of white plasti-dip on my stock 19" and it wasn't exactly enough. with black plasti dip, 2-3 cans will be able to do the job. white was just a pita and the fact that brake dust and stuff just plants itself into the plastidip. overall its not too bad if you just want to see how it'll look for a while but after a few months it will start turning blackish brownish.

Did you clear coat them? If so, how many coats?

no i didnt use the glossifier. but the white in general is very thin. id suggest getting 1-2 more cans just in case.

SnooPPP 06-05-2012 02:20 AM

I really want to see how this white plastidip looks. I'm wondering if it'll do a decent job at blending in my emblems on my pearl white Z. Could look clean.

delusional 06-05-2012 02:45 AM

there's some pictures of my car with the white plasti-dip on my other thread:

http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-p...ite-white.html

and one more thing. make sure you do a lot of coats because if you do thin coats theyre quite a pita to take off.

twinturbonet 06-05-2012 07:33 AM

I'll swing by Ace Hardware to pick up an additional 3 cans. I also heard that white is thinner, thanks for the heads-up.

I plan on Glossing mine, so I hope that helps the dirt come off easier.

jinkang612 06-05-2012 08:54 AM

to tell you the truth when i did my door handles white i sprayed black over them first then put like 8 layers of white over them but they get dirty FAST !!! lol

it may be tough to find the white @ a retail location. finding anything other than black around here is just about impossible.

Yea, worst comes to worst, I'll just order it online. I read somewhere that Ace Hardware had the additional colors. Lowes and Home Depot only carried black.

You're gonna need a lot of coats of the glossifier to get where you want and even then it might not be exactly what your expecting. It does get smoother in texture, but it still has that plasti dip feel when you touch it. I put like 4-5 coats of the glossifier on my emblems/badges. You might need 6-8 on the wheels to get them smooth enough to get dirt to come off easier (compared to plasti dip without the glossifier; it will still be harder to clean than the wheels with no plasti dip).

twinturbonet 06-05-2012 01:10 PM

I guess I'll be overdosing on Glossifier.. lol

Yeah definitely. I've found that the glossifier works well on small areas like emblems and badges, but not so well on large areas. I tried to do my roof with the glossifier, but it didn't come out right no matter how much glossifier I put on it. I think you should be fine with the wheels though.

Here's some pics of my emblems with 4-5 coats of the glossifier so you can get an idea of how glossy it might get. You can just keep adding coats of the glossifier until you're happy with how it looks.

Blades, did u order the glossifier online? I can't seem to find them at local stores

corbin09 06-05-2012 01:30 PM

DO NOT put the red on anything white or paint. It stains pink when you peel it off. Stick with White/black.

Yeah I ordered everything online. The only thing I've ever seen in the store was regular black plasti dip. Here's the website I ordered from:

DYC Home - Plasti Dip For Your Car - Resources & More at DipYourCar.com NEW Glossifier

No problem. Actually I'm glad you asked because while on the website to give you the link I actually bought this. Should help make my wheels look clean for once and not dusty.

Dip Washer - Detailed item view - Plasti Dip For Your Car - Resources & More at DipYourCar.com NEW Glossifier

Also, I'm gonna be taking my car on a hyperdrive at Summit Point Raceway in 2 weeks so we'll see how plasti dipped wheels hold up at the track.

Damn. I had planned on painting the NISMO on the wheel in black and the "O" in red. I guess I'll scratch that idea and just paint the whole NISMO in black. The tops of my lugs might be red tho :)

Just a word of caution, plasti dip on the lugs and the area surrounding them is prone to getting taken off when you take the lug nuts off and put them back on.

Yea, was thinking of just spraying the tops. You barely see the side of the lug nuts in the stockies.

Idk, i'm playing it by ear to be honest. If it looks stupid, I'll just remove the color. I've been waiting for someone to make stock style lugs, but colored!!!! :shakes head:

Every time I take my lug nuts off, a little bit of the plasti dip on the wheels always seems to come off with it. Not really that big of a deal, but not sure how it would work with plasti dip on the lugs themselves. I thought about doing the lug nuts too, but I kind of like having them and center caps stay silver.

Let me know how good the cleaner is for plasti dipped wheels :-)

speedfreek 06-05-2012 02:52 PM

A way to get around of the red staining anything pink you dont want ummm pink is to put down a base coat of the regular black plasti dip and then put the red on top of it. Only thing is it will probably take a couple more coats. Just a thought.

twinturbonet 06-05-2012 02:56 PM

I'll try touching up the lugs, but no promises. lol. I'll also update this thread when I do it and how the cleaner works. I'm hoping to dive in this project on the wknd of the 9th or 16th.

and here are the rest...

Yep, I'm exhausted. I decided to mess around with some Plasti-dip on the wheels to get a feel if I'm going to like white wheels on my car. Yes - I do like white wheels on my car, BUT! I definitely want to PAINT/PowderCoat them as opposed to getting them "dipped". It was a bitch and I'm tired. =D

Here ya go!

Not bad at all. Well done. I think it would look kinda neat to have the nismo on the rims the normal color. Would be kinda hard to do that now though.

Yea this is a feeler on how white wheels would look on my Z. Now that I like it, I plan to powdercoat them white and paint the first 4 letters in Nismo black and the 'o' in red.

Thanks Nismochiq!
