Cubby Door
So I've done a few searches and even looked at the DIY section, but maybe I'm just not searching well enough! :shakes head:
I'm trying to figure out how to remove the cubby door without destroying my interior. I didn't mind "experimenting" on my Z33, but I'm scared to even touch my Z34 Nismo. lol. In the end, I want to put a tablet mount in the cubby to hold my tablet. |
i dont remember exactly, but i think you need to take that entire trim piece out inorder to undscrew the hinge on the back. check the stereo install DIY's on how to remove that piece. it's not difficult to do (ive done it like 5-6 times already).

OP, what a coincidence! I was researching this myself today. If I have time this weekend, I will be experimenting. I also want to install a tablet in the cubby hole. I was originally thinking iPad, but, that will look ridiculous! Maybe when/if the rumored 7-in iPad comes out!

thedreamer has a nice setup with the oem nav bezel and all...

I am not 100% sure on how the upper cubby piece is removed as an audio shop handled my install. I would assume the outer dash piece (where the A/C vents are) will have to be taken off and then from that it is probably bolted or screwed in.

Damn, thanks Dreamer. I had edited my post because I asked where your album was and realized it was part of your signature. Thank you for saving me the time of scrolling through your 50 pages of your journal thread lol.
You have a nice set up. I want a bigger screen :) I don't mind covering the whole cubby hole itself with the tablet. |

7" screen, same size as the OEM screen just requires some custom mounting to fit it since it is slightly different. |
You have to pull the whole dash trim out to remove the whole lid. It connects in back. I've done it to replace a bad lid.

wow, that is WAY too big for what I want.

Something like this, but I would like an 8" tablet. OR! I could possibly remove the door and drill a mount in the cubby and have the tablet kind of swivel outside of the cubby. |
Wow that's a neat idea! I had thoughts about having someone help me rig a touch display to my dash so it can be plugged to a small computer (i.e., Raspberry Pi). Audio would be USB -> MiniDSP -> Amps. No time at the moment for this project.

A samsung galaxy tab 7" plus fits perfectly with a nav oem dash.
Just keep in mind the bottom head unit is bigger than the bottom head unit that is in the touring navigation model. So you will have to do a small amount of cutting. Nothing crazy. Here's mine below. Very similar to dreamers. Except he cut the bottom head units dash slot to slide the aftermarket radio down a bit. That way the top nav oem dash would fit snug. What I did was cut the inside of the oem dash at the bottom(the lip) so it would slide over the bottom head unit.(it will cover the cd player, but who uses that? ) Mine required much less work :p I plan on buying another tablet and fitting it at the bottom part of the nav dash and run obd ii bluetooth to it. http://img.tapatalk.com/20a36973-160b-c8de.jpg Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk 2 |
That's awesome. How did you secure the tablet behind the bezel?
|
I wish the OEM nav bezel was cheaper! Man, $317 is just a lot of $$$, but, dang it looks perfect!
|
yea, that is pricey!

You know, I like the look with the OEM navi cluster, but I don't like the fact that it's far away from the driver. I'm sure it's better for glare though.

But after talking to a few shops about pricing and custom work it would have been more and might not have been 'perfect.' Also, the OEM display from Nissan is $990.....:icon14: |
damn expensive stuff
|
yeah to be honest.. if you factor in upgrading your car to touring and then a navigation package. A tablet or carPC with a oem nav dashboard is a helluva lot cheaper. EVEN if you have the touring edition already, its still way cheaper. Plus your not locked into a limited navigation system. Tablet or carPC is the way to go IMO.

From GPS, OBDII, web, radio, etc. They are very universal with what you can do, but on that it takes some skill, knowledge, and time. |
So carPC isn't a company? It's literally just putting a PC in your car? LOL.
Anyhoo, I read up on MP3car.com and found out some info. I might just build the PC myself (might be cheaper than their mini pc's they sell) and just purchase a monitor from them. All I really want is WIFI, my music library, and browse the net (via WIFI or tethering). |

Personally I still pay almost to 60 dollars more because I eat up data like its nothing. Damn YouTube ... Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk 2 |
I didn't see this anywhere on the thread, but how do you power the tablet on/off?
