Hey guys, just wanted to share my day with everyone. I was driving on I85 south bound and trafic was slowing down, the guy behind me did not see me and his truck hit me. I will post a few pics and the cost so you guys will see. The car is at the shop and will be there for about 21 business days. I just wanted to ask any of you that has experience things that i should be looking for when i get my car back, to make sure everything is done right. I hate to say it but i dont trust anyone at this point.

Any ways, thanks guys in advance.

GaleForce 03-25-2012 08:10 PM

Ouch. That sucks. I assume you're ok?

jboffill 03-25-2012 08:14 PM

Javo

370ZilverZ 03-25-2012 08:19 PM

Wow! So sorry for your 4 week loss. I hop they get it back to you in better shape than you left your garage in.

SPOHN 03-25-2012 08:35 PM

Sorry dude

christian370z 03-25-2012 08:41 PM

Black cherry is a difficult color to match, but as long as it's a reputable shop you should be in good hands. If anything is not up to your liking when you get it back, make sure you have them make it right until it is up to your liking.

USAF_troop 03-25-2012 08:43 PM

OUCH! Sorry about your experience man, hope everything works out well.

mikey1600 03-25-2012 08:44 PM

damn mate, sorry to see/hear, good thing is you are ok though!

just make sure you look over the vehicle very carefully when you pick it up, I once had repairs done to the front of another car, they put the wrong headlight in (few different models of the car had different housed coloured headlights). So 1 was chrome and 1 was black haha.

jboffill 03-25-2012 08:50 PM

yeah the shop is good, they do a lot of work with the place i got the car from. Big dealer here in Atlanta, and that body shop is part of them. The next thing i need to make sure is to have a good Diminished Value set up for the insurance company.

Thanks again for all the support!

cgl23 03-25-2012 09:35 PM

Good to know that you are ok. They bodyshop will get you car taken care of. Just make sure that they thoroughly check the suspension, diff, and other moving parts under the vehicle before you accept the car back.

370Ztune 03-26-2012 01:10 PM

At least you're all right. Rear end accidents can be really bad for you neck and back.

Did you get a rental car out of his insurance company at least?

You bet man, im working on that right now. it cost a lot of money in Atlanta, GA to get that appraisal done. But its in the works. I think the max that they can do in GA is 15k. I dont know how much of that i will get. I will keep you guys posted.

Thanks again for the support, it means a lot

Watch Out!

Here is my cautionary tale....

I too was rear ended a couple of years back. I knew I'd been hit hard enough to bend the frame, but the body shop assured me the car was repairable. Since I had dealings with the shop before and they have a sterling reputation, I accepted what they told me.

And the repaired car seemed to be fine: drove well and did not show odd tire wear (scrubbing). So all seemed well, so I thought. Then I went to trade the car in.

Of course I told the dealer about the rear-end accident, but when the tech put the car up on the rack I was screwed. Because the frame had been straightened the dealer claimed the car had much less value. Even, he said, possible liability--it could be dangerous.

Now I'm not saying I totally believed the dealer, but I can tell you that the rear end cost me $1500 in trade-in value. If I had known that when the accident happened, I might have taken the responsible party to small claims court to recover the $1500 decrease in value.

I wish you better luck. At least you're not injured. And forewarned is forearmed. Maybe.

augustabites 03-26-2012 05:50 PM

I'm glad that you weren't hurt OP.

I 85 is pretty crappy.

Hate the traffic on it... especially around 5 pm.

jboffill 03-27-2012 08:25 AM

Yeah, i know what you mean. I am going to take the car and put it up on a lift. They tell me that the new 370z dont have an "actual frame", they have something called the uni-body. it consist of multiple panels that come together and make the frame of the car. those panels can be replace and technically there is no frame damage. I am going to look at the carfax report to see if it says frame damage on it. I am filing a diminished value claim but i have to wait till i have the final estimate from the shop.

Thanks again for all the support.

Ive worked at a couple of shops and technically they are to report the frame damage whether they replace the panels or not. It's no different than if you had a front end collision and they fixed the bumpers, lights and fenders. It is still reported as a front end collision even though they replaced all the parts. You may get lucky though.

Streetlife 03-27-2012 10:31 AM

Good luck with everything OP! Sorry to hear this happened to your Z, main thing is you walked away.

Bullet_proof 03-27-2012 11:39 AM

ouch... glad ur ok.

take ur time, and preferably receive the car during the day and with plenty of light, don't be afraid to point out any defects, if it needs to go back to the shop as many times as it's needed, so be it.
check your inner panels for broken brackets/pins and do not let them tell you paint tone will even out when dries out better.
least but not last, stay positive but every time the car needs to go back for any reason (if any) ask for paperwork stating the reason and the repairs made.

good luck man.

didymus 03-27-2012 01:08 PM

That sucks, I would be upset. Never been rear-ended, thankfully.

I hope you never do man, one of the things that you will always do once you've been hit like that is that when you stop, you always look in the rear view mirror no matter what man. It sucks!!

Astrosfan 03-27-2012 03:30 PM

sorry man!

same thing happened to me about a year ago. 18k in damages, they had to replace the rear floor pan, roof, side fenders, bumper,ect....... and they are going to respray the doors and roof on yours. They resprayed everything but the hood and front fenders when ui got rearedned. Took almost 2 months. good luck and stay positive.

btw... i took mine to a nissan dealership

Damn man that sucks, i dont think mine is as bad as yours was but still its like 10k workth of repairs and 21 business days of repairs. Could you give me a few pointers in what to look for when it comes to picking up the car?

Again, thank you guys for all of the support.

roplusbee 03-27-2012 04:36 PM

Does it surprise anyone how bad traffic is on I85? That place is a madhouse and a parking lot at the same time during the PM "rush hour"

yeah it sucks right now.

bullitt5897 03-27-2012 06:03 PM

Srry to hear that this happened. ATL definitely has the worst drivers... I had a guy today drive down the wrong side of the road head on to me as I was turning onto a street because he did not want to wait behind a trash truck...

85 is is always a parking lot during rush hours.

Have you picked a shop to do your work? If not try Artcraft collision! Top Notch work and Jeff will really work things in your favor if you need aftermarket parts ;) hint hint lol
