help with shift knob?

So i finally installed my shift knob.
My new shift knob is the nismo carbon fiber one.
However i just have one quick question.
Did you guys leave this thing on or off? this silver ring thingy?

Like i left mine off but now that i think back i dont think it would have made a difference. anyone know what it is used for?

without even seeing the pic here at work i know which piece you are talking about, and i left mine off when i installed my team voodoo knob. i have no idea what its for, but as far as i was concerned, it was another piece to buzz and vibrate around when i was driving

I took the aluminum spacer off when I installed my PWJDM v.2 knob.

when installing my Tommy i honestly don't remember it being there. so im guessing no mine is off
