Good Luck Bro!!! Cant wait to see the finished product!
|
It would be awesome to make the landing strip of LEDs function as the turn signal. The new Audis do this.

VERY NICE! I like it! Are you going with the AUDI style headlights, meaning another strip horizontally? or no?

Good looking. In my opinion, this would be one of the best mods for the Z's appearance.
|
Are these LEDs as bright as the Audis? That's what I'm looking for. And having it blink along with the turn signals would be awesome.
|
It appears Audi is using some sort of piranha type (also spider or SuperFlux) LED. These LEDs are generally brighter than standard 5mm round LEDs, and it can handle a tiny bit more current (50mA versus 20mA typical). It is square and has 4 pins, and is typically more rugged for automotive use. I suggested Nic to order and to try to fit these LEDs in the dimples. He says the brightness is quite overwhelming. Of course, this is nothing compared to using Luxeon with at least 100mA. Still... that would be overkill haha. However, my parking lights will have a single Luxeon K2 on each side.
This is as tacky as it gets with LED mods to my headlights (besides changing amber to white LED in sidemarker). :-) Consider it an evolution of the 350Z bumper reflector LEDs. Unlike the Audi, only the vertical LEDs in the dimples will be put in as this will flow well with the hood lines and the fangs. As for making it blink, it's a bit much, so I'll stick to simple - NO halos either. After looking at the Audi headlights, I notice the orange reflectors. My headlights will retain the orange reflectors, and it will NOT be painted. However, the chrome underneath will be painted black. In theory, this will "darken" the reflectors. The entire housing will be painted satin black. The silver painted parts will be left intact giving the housing a bit of contrast. The plastic lens for the turn signals will be swapped out for something different that Nic says turned out very good, so that'll make my headlights look fairly unique. I've not seen photos yet. Here's hoping for more pictures to come... they're planning a YouTube video as well. |
very nice! can ya send me there contacT?
|
The landing strips are really starting to grow on me.

CiNcity Designs Working with them may require some patience since they're pretty swamped. I paid for a new set of headlights for the core exchange. That way, I can still drive drive and not worry about waiting for my headlights. Although I won't be the first with landing strip LEDs, but it'll be other minor things that complete the headlight mod to make it noteworthy (check out my LED photo album). It was vinyl overlays for the 350Z, and now it's something real and unique for my 370Z. |
Nic@CINCity sent me a short video clip from his phone. He shows off the completed headlight (similar, but revised concept) next to the unpainted housing. He demonstrates the Knight Rider effect with the landing strip and constant lit on the other. His Youtube video demonstrating some concepts and possibilities that customers can request will be uploaded tonight, so be on the lookout!
In the meantime, he's getting the headlights assembled and shipped tomorrow. :excited: |
nice! I was going to custom make something like that except have the whole strip led on/led off style...but that looks awsome!
Cant wait for high-res |
i have a bad feeling that this design is gonna start to get overplayed... look what happened to BMW's halo lights.. 1 out of every 5 civics have them now =______=
|
Post #1 updated with Youtube Video! He's shipping the headlights today, so hopefully I can get them on my Z soon. Thanks Nic@CINCity!
|
Looks great man! Looks very OEM! The turn signal is kinda cool, i thought the whole bar should just blink on and off but thats smooth looking too
Keep us posted! |

Notice how painting the surface underneath the orange reflector darkens and gives it a "smoked" look. It was a theory to be tested, and it looks pretty darn good! Some of my friends were wondering about the projector turn signals. I think Nic opted for widely diffused lens, so we'll test this with my handmade LED bulbs. I definitely wanted to keep it simple. Again, the LED strip is as tacky as it gets since I wanted to evolve the concept from the 350Z LED bumper lights. Plus, those dimples need to serve some sort of purpose. What's different about these LED landing strips is the placement of the LED. I told Nic to make the LED forward facing and attach them to the back part of the dimple (illustrated in photoshopped example). The overall look is very stealth, and you have to face the car to see the full brightness of the LEDs. Anyhow, if interested, please let Nic know that I sent you. That way he can pull up the mod concepts an apply it to your headlights. He is also aware of this thread as well. :-) |

Again, great job! |
Very nice CINCity... the top projector lens looks like a great replacement for the turning signal, I take it they used a 2.5" lens. Hmmmm
The knight rider strip looks pretty cool too, but I wouldn't drive around with them on the street lol. |

Anyhow, I found Part 1 of the video and updated Post #1. Headlights were shipped today, so hopefully I'll get everything done in a couple of weeks before updating this thread. :excited: |
I wonder if there would be a way to just have the LEDS illuminate inside to outside for the blinker.
|
we can do anything!!
|
Wow I just saw the video and it is CLEAN. I am definitely digging this mod more than the iron-man one. Just a simple black housing with Knight Rider LED Strips (of course you gotta be able to control it) and I'm set. Definitely a first mod for me when my car arrives. What is the ETA start to finish?
|
wow that turn signal is awesome!

Post #1 Updated with some photos and a video of the completed installation.

^ sickkk i saw the video.
Will cin city by making some where in the housing is chrome? so it looks sort of oem? |
They can do whatever design you can come up with. What you see here is something I came up with last year, but the project started over 2 months ago.
|
^ how much did it cost you? since it was custom work?

nah... the car is between 75-90 used you wouldnt want to ship it on an open trailer so a chunk would be for shipping...... and the rest would be my commission :driving: |
Here's a good picture of the headlights from the back. This mod definitely turns head and draws curiosity when I park.
