Password JDM radiator cover.

On Friday I recieved my CF radiator cover from PasswordJDM and it looks great. However, I spent about 3 hours this weekend trying to figure out why it won't fit right. No matter what I tried the right side sits just a bit higher than the left. It almost seems to have a little warp in it. Yes I have made sure that nothing is sitting under it. Am I doing something wrong or do I just have a warped cover?

kenchan 12-11-2011 05:02 PM

ive read somewhere their fitment is not perfect and requires some work.

haitech 12-11-2011 09:31 PM

Ron talks about it in his journal

kensnismo 12-11-2011 11:35 PM

returned first one could not close pass. side of hood.second one to arrive monday.I will let all know if I have any problems with it.

TopElement 12-12-2011 12:12 PM

Very likely warped during the curing process. Interested in one of these, but not with quality issues.

Perf.Des 12-12-2011 06:46 PM

agreed, its most likely warped. If you have a heat gun, you can warm it up and see if it will lay flat, but thats usually a temporary fix.

Take pics and exchange it.

They are known to not fit right, that's why I had my friend Tony aka carbon fiber element wrap my stock piece & everything fits perfect

I posted a thread about it, I wouldn't lie about parts for this car. I have done just about everything you could do to a 370z and post honest reviews. Everyone that has bought this part has had fitment problems, plus it's a rip-off anyway.

I called PW-JDM last night and spoke with Leo. We went through a bunch of possible causes other than a slight warp and the he asked, " ... have you adjusted the bump stops on the underside of the hood?". Bumper stops?? Doh! Went out to the car and found plenty of adjusting play.
Can't work on it tonght, but by Thursday I will get it done.
Damn! forgot all about those.:bowrofl:

DrEvil 12-15-2011 08:52 AM

Not only did I turn down the bump-stop, but eventually took it out and still no good. I called JDM-PW and after a little more trouble shooting, pw-jDM issued me an RA and we will try again.

With so many people having issues, it's likely that the mold itself is warped. The original plastic piece is quite flimsy, so there's a good chance it wasn't holding the right shape when the mold was made.

JB-370z 12-15-2011 04:54 PM

Not a fan of these at all, after seeing many of them in person. The stock cover is going to last much longer than these flimsy things.

phelan 12-15-2011 06:06 PM

heh the prototype shroud sitting in my car doesn't have any issues. mold might be going bad after an extended production run.

pwjdm makes good stuff - they probably just need to refresh the mold and it'll be fine. good thing they're willing to RA though

DrEvil 04-18-2012 07:57 AM

After a 4 month wait I just got an email from Password JDM the the radiators covers are back in stock and are shipping now ( mine is on the way ).
As soon as I get it I'll post some pics and a review.

GaleForce 04-18-2012 08:05 AM

Nice. Hopefully they fixed the issue. I know there have been several members here looking to buy this piece.

Lol not flimsy at all. It is thin and light, it looks delicate but it's def not weak at all.

Fitment could be better, I had to grind several areas to make it fit and it is still making contact with the hood on the passenger side.

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...radcover-1.png

The yellow marks are where I had to grind from underneath the piece, they are not flush and the edges extend to far down causing the piece to be raised and not letting the hood latch in place.

The area on the green circles is where the piece hits that center area of the radiator support. I just grinded the edges a bit, this allowed me to push the cover further inside towards the engine bay.

The red marks is where I still have contact with the hood, passenger side is more noticeable.

After talking to PW:JDM they came out with a new mold and apparently it is still not perfect but better. I am sending mine in for replacement next week.

DrEvil 04-23-2012 04:09 PM

The cover arrived today and I'll try to install it later tonight. More info as it becomes available.

GaleForce 04-23-2012 04:19 PM

Sub'd hope fit is good.

ZMan8 04-23-2012 04:21 PM

so this is the "new" version? Based on the pic there is a cut out for the window washer fluid, did the piece come like that precut?

Boost_lee 04-28-2012 03:48 PM

^ I like covering the windshield fluid lid on the old unit, if thats how the new one is.

Are they offering warranty for all old units?

GaleForce 04-28-2012 08:34 PM

Good news! Time for me to order one.

DrEvil 04-28-2012 08:50 PM

Actually I did the cut out. I am just too lazy to remove the entire cover just to fill the washer bottle.

Th3 On3 04-28-2012 09:26 PM

Very nice I like it!

roplusbee 04-28-2012 10:14 PM

The killer question is do the "new" ones fit without modification...............

GaleForce 04-28-2012 10:16 PM

I believe that's what the OP said. :ugh2:

No mods needed at all. It fit just perfectly. I only cut out the area to fit the washer fluid bottle cap. Last year I bought "Dress up caps" and I wanted to make sure that it was seen (and could be used too)

simota1 04-29-2012 03:26 PM

damn now i gotta save some money for this mod lol

kensnismo 04-29-2012 06:01 PM

where did you get the dress up caps? been trying to find some and only found oil filler cap

roplusbee 04-29-2012 07:27 PM

Nice. So the cooling plate issues were fixed. Now I just need to find out about the compartment covers.............

They look good. I'll upload some good shots of the engine bay later today

roplusbee 04-30-2012 01:30 PM

Ok, so I just got a reply from Password JDM.

"compartment covers have never been an issue... the cooling plate fits as long as it is for a non-nismo model. nismo models will need modifications to fit"

So with that, I am back to square one. The only reason I was going to get the compartment covers was to match the cooling plate. I guess Tony @ CFE will get the call.......
