We are not able to modify the shifter to make it shift lower. You will actually have to cut into the shifter and produce a whole new piece making the shifter set lower. This will require the whole center console to come apart and will be $$$$. At this time we will offer the knob and the boot. To modify the shifter is just not cost effective at the time. We have plenty of people look in to this.

It just sucks that there's no way to make a manual 'short shifter' work in with the Auto mechanics. I mean, under the trim and all, how different is the Auto shifter linkage from the Manual shifter linkage?

We have to remember that this isnt a manual car so its going to be harder to convert. Its going to be extremely difficult. The silver outer piece we would have to cut. Second, the whole auto mechanism connects with several pieces that will require cutting and splicing of parts. I never knew it was going to be this difficult. Third the whole automatic console sit about 2 inches higher then the manual.

Just so you know, I'm not hating drew. I think you guys are doing great work and making forward progress. I just wish there wasn't such a difference in the way a manual shifter and an auto shifter connected to the damn transmission. But go figure with our bi-lateral system of always having 2 ways of doing things...

One shifts up and down, the other left to right.

Thanks for all the hard work guys, great to see a company that is actually listening to their customers, and trying to produce products that customers want. I know this has been a PITA to accomplish.. Now we all need to support this and open the old wallets, so that we see this kind of service continue! Do we have a price on the knob and boot combo yet? Group buy?

So let me get this right, your telling me that you can adopt any knob to work with a 7Speed automatic? If so how does the mechanism work with you having to push it and change it into the gears? If thats the case do you have to Tommy Kaira shift knob?

killjulez 04-12-2012 11:25 AM

^ Not any knob will work with an automatic. There are additional pieces needed to allow the shifter to engage so you can shift into gears. These knobs are specifically made for automatics. But it might be possible to convert a TK to an auto knob...

Well apparently all you need to do is depress the white inner shaft of the shifter to engage shifting. Theoretically you can just take any knob with an appropriately sized hole and pour a ton of quick set epoxy in it, slap it on and you should be good.

Just push the AT shifter down like you would a MT shifter to go to Reverse.

:rofl2:

At least it sounds good in theory... :bowrofl:

Yea and you would need to pour the epoxy upside down... lol. Unless you find a way to remove the white inner shaft.

I wouldn't mind cutting that white stick down so the knob would sit lower, but that's just me.

Ya alot of guys will like that option but what about the guys want to return the car to stock?

We will have a group buy for the items that we have right now later in the week.

captain-nok 04-16-2012 07:48 PM

in for group buy

How deep does the hole in the shift knob go? If it went all but maybe .030" it will allow it to sit lower (depending on how deep it is now). I might be looking at it wrong I suppose though

killjulez 04-17-2012 05:26 PM

^ Thats pretty much how close it is. I can take a cross-section view and show you if you want. The hole is as deep as possible to make sure the knob can sit as low as possible.

The most we would be able to get if I were to put a curved surface in the bottom is .10"

At the corners of the hole the distance is very small. About .05" or less.

Jamaica 04-17-2012 08:14 PM

who is in for a group buy?
