Removing the inner grill slates

Has anyone done this and or how do you think it would look? I was thinking of removing the black grill slates between the fangs. Just cut them out and file them down neatly to look clean. Any thoughts?

look on z1's site or a post on this forums about the blue 370z tt.

Leaving your radiator exposed to the hazards of the road is not something I would recommend.

I used a rotary tool, to cut everything out. 600 grit sand paper to get all the notches smoothed out, then go over with a finer grit paper, prep and re paint the whole area. I painted all the plastic including the thin plastic strip above the grill opening. Makes everything look legit. Depending on where you drive and what kind of roads your on, goes hand in hand with the risk imo.

only recent pic I have.

Sure doesn't look like it.

Trips 11-19-2011 10:07 PM

Looks horrible :(

MattP725 11-19-2011 11:05 PM

Hate it without the fangs.

pedZ 11-19-2011 11:08 PM

They'd be better off driving without a front bumper at all.

This is possiable but not to worried about. I don't DD. Even though it only takes one time. But it is a narrow opening compared to other aftermarket kits.

Nice pic. This is exactly what I'm looking for. Looks better than I imagined.

O&G 11-20-2011 11:38 AM

Thank u sir! The same little rocks will get through the stock grill slits as they do w/o it. If you run into large pieces of wood, rubber, animals , etc.. it could be a problem though.

SPOHN 11-20-2011 12:06 PM

Just means I can buy a better radiator. Lol. But I don't really see it mattering to much.

kuriz32 11-20-2011 12:51 PM

To protect the rad, you could add some universal mesh:
customcargrills.com -

It's not going to be the end all, but it will protect it better than having it completely bare.

Lemers 11-20-2011 01:04 PM

The Z without the fangs at least needs to pit a screen in there. It just looks unfinished.

cc370z 11-21-2011 12:51 AM

O&G looks good!

haitech 11-21-2011 02:20 AM

meh

thanks, I think the front bumper needs the fangs as support, plus it looks better w/ them.

That was a custom modified stock front fascia fitted with a GTM TT Kit. It was that body shop's first attempt to modify a 370Z fascia. Leveling the intercooler in relation to the fascia would have been impossible unless you started cutting up the intercooler, altered piping and started changing out couplers.

The issue you see with the bottom two~three rows is an issue with the fascia, NOT the GTM Intercooler kit.
