someone explain this to me...

why is the "gtr-button" a "mod" on our cars?!? honestly... is it just so when people get in your z you can point to it and say:

Z owner - "this is from a GTR!"
average joe - "....uhhh:ugh2:".

imo opinion it sticks out like a sore thumb and doesn't match anything in our cars.

whyyy do people do this?

Mr&Mrs 07-07-2011 12:34 PM

I thought the same thing, then when I took my dash apart to get it CF'ed I went ahead and got one. I just like to say NEVER PUSH THE RED BUTTON! GTR is never mentioned. I have no red inside but I think it blends in just fine.

Brutal 370Z 07-07-2011 12:40 PM

Doesn't make much sense to me either. I actually preffer the stock start/stop button...It lights up!!! that's pretty sweet IMO!!! lol

Econ 07-07-2011 12:46 PM

so to compensate for this, if you decide to keep your stock start/stop button, just take one less bite of your sandwich at lunch :happydance:

azn370z 07-07-2011 12:50 PM

People just want something different. If the z came with a red start button then they would want a white button. The same thing applies with our rear fog light. If it came red people would darken it. It's really not a big deal to me.

Apoc370z 07-07-2011 01:04 PM

I dont have it but i am planning to get one. I think the main reason why people get it is cause the white start button looks dull in comparison. And red matches well with black if you have the black interior.

Mostly based on personal prefrence anyways.

EYE ESS 07-07-2011 01:10 PM

I have a red car...button looks cool but I don't think I'd spend 40 bucks on a new button.

elmz 07-07-2011 01:26 PM

I just ordered one today, I'll let you know what the hype is all about after I install it.

It's dyno proven to add 15 hp. :rofl2: But really, what azn370z said is spot on...people just want something different, and I think the glossy red finish on the button looks great. Personally I don't expect average joe to even notice it, nor do I care...I got it for my own personal enjoyment.

Cmike2780 07-07-2011 01:28 PM

It def looks better with my black interior. The stock one looks like it belongs more in an Altima. I could care less if it was made for a GT-R. It's not like it has a GT-R logo.

Also, it does light up the same by the way....well not exactly the same, but still

Another option would be to change the LED color

Brutal 370Z 07-07-2011 01:32 PM

oh it lights up!! i didn't know that. I retract my statement.

Red__Zed 07-07-2011 01:35 PM

Not a fan.

Now that is cool! I wanna do that asap

TypeOne 07-07-2011 02:44 PM

I think it's just a cool little mod... and it doesn't light up like a huge orange dot.

When people ask if that is stock, I say it's from the GTR and have always had "neat" or "oh cool" responses.

Cool points for me please. kthnxbye

docaam 07-07-2011 04:08 PM

I liked the red colour of it when I bought and now with all black alcantara it really stands out. The red shade is very shinny compared to dull white.

daisuke149 07-07-2011 05:14 PM

I got one cus it came with a free twin turbo kit.

i lie of course.

: ( i has neither.

christian370z 07-07-2011 08:10 PM

I just installed mine and it really does add a bit of contrast and color to an otherwise black interior. I don't really care about whether it comes from a GTR, but it looks cool and gives the interior some flair. I wouldn't consider it a mod though...

ZeeingAround 07-07-2011 08:50 PM

I pulled it to sell my white one for$5 more on the GT-R forums.

Drum roll for the incoming flood of F/S threads on NAGTROC.

djpathfinder 07-08-2011 02:54 AM

Let's just say "the grass is greener on the other side". If the Z came with a red ignition button, people would be buying the clear/orange lit button as a mod...just like some Z owners buy JDM clear tail lights, and some Impreza owners put red overlays over their clear tails...

For me, my 40th have red accents inside, which go well with the red ignition button.

Isn't it funny how that works? The big thing in a lot of car scenes is to get JDM trim pieces, lights, body kits, and modifications. But in Japan and Europe, they are buying USDM trim pieces, lights, body kits and modifications. You definitely have a point.

RoshDawg 07-09-2011 02:01 PM

The red button looks bad ***. I personally wanted a flip switch (like what fighter jets have) but the GTR button was the closest I could get.. Lol

to each their own... I like mine the way it is, but for others they like it, so go with it.

eddieconfetti 07-09-2011 03:05 PM

to me, the gtr buttom feels more solid and firm. thats why i changed mine. and it was a cheap mod.

svmtbman 07-09-2011 06:15 PM

A sports car should have a red start button, end of story!

Cmike2780 07-09-2011 08:22 PM

I want a yellow button

They are made of the same parts, except for a different plastic for the button surface...the spring mechanism is identical.

Next someone will say the red button adds 10 HP.

Get your facts straight. Dynos have proven it's at least 15hp at the wheels. Your also wrong about the spring. The spring used in the GTR button is a high performance version. It lowers the engagement point 0.000000001 of an inch.

I stand corrected! :bowrofl:

NewYorkJon34 07-09-2011 10:36 PM

It's from a GT-R which is tits, what more of a reason do you need? Lol

TruKoi 07-09-2011 11:05 PM

Did a quick survey at work with 3 women..all gave me thumbs down on the GTR button..lmao.. tacky..ugly..looks like it comes from a toy car.

But to each his own..
