Anyone upset that they did a Clear bra
Discuss
|
Nope. I have done it on a few cars and one of the best investments I have made. Just picked up a new 370 and it's the first thing I am having done to the car. Not cheap but well worth it.

I didn't have Clear bra installed on my car, but IMO whether or not you need it depends on what you want with the car and how/where you use it. If you DD the car and/or drive on some roads where there are a lot of little rocks and pebbles flying around, it is more likely to get rock chips. The clear bra will definitely help, but it will not protect against everything. Some of the bigger and harder hitting rocks will still go through it, requiring you to replace it. If you don't DD the car and want it to remain in perfect condition, then go for it.
My car is a DD and gets hit by rocks a lot on my commute, so I didn't do the clear bra. I thought it would be a lot cheaper to just eventually repaint the bumper or even get a new one than to clear bra everything. I hope this info helped and good luck  |
I was upset the last shop that did the clear bra cut out piece by piece and "stitched" them together, so there were lines and gaps all over the place. It was just ugly.
Then I had another shop do the clear bra, and it appears they had the precut pieces. It looks amazing and I can't tell it's there. |
I can't imagine why someone would want to put a clear
peice of pastic on their car leaving a line across the front |
waste of money, i like that my front bumper and hood have thousands of "war" scars.
looks meaner, plus the car is lighter b/c so much of it has been chipped away. |

Hate the 3M Clearbra on the Z, but I love the Ventureshield on my Lincoln.... the 3M is scratched all to hell...

Worth it, I don't care for the line across the hood/fender but thats better than hundreds of rock chips.
Next time I get a clear bra I'll have them wrap the entire hood. |

What companies CB did you have installed
|
I like clearbra, except I had a really bad scratch repaired, so I had to have the front removed. I'll be re-applying after the paint sets up front, but for now I'm vulnerable.
|
ive had mine for over a year and i like that my car is still free of any rock chips. The bad part is that the clear bra is all swirled up.
Im thinking about taking it off when the car is two years old, making my car will look 2 years younger :P |
Get VentureShield! It has a lifetime warranty!

I had my CB installed through the Dealer (Big Mistake, I know.. Moving on) And here are my complaints:
1. I paid $1k for it (Could have gotten it for half that at a CB dealer) What I wanted covered: Front Bumper, Hood, Fenders, Mirrors. What I got covered: Front Bumper, First 1/3 of Hood, 1/2 of Mirrors, and 6" of Fenders. None of the pieces go over the edges of the panels or cover the whole part. 2. It looks like ****. No seriously, you can CLEARLY see the edges, even with a good wash/waxing. 3. They must have sent it to Julio's Clear Bra shop because I can see that they didn't even wash the car prior to installing it. There is debris actually trapped UNDER the damn CB. 4. Again, it wasn't what I wanted done and looked like crap, and over priced. Now I'm worried that since it's been on the car so long, if I try to have it removed/replaced... the paint fade might make it look like crap if I have the whole parts covered again. Or if it will rip off the clearcoat...  |
my friend had the whole front end of his nismo 350 CB'd back when he first got it. they did the entire hood, both front fenders, mirrors, front clip, and a-pillars (all the way back to the hatch since they are one piece). it wasn't cheap but there aren't any lines on it at all and it's hard to see that it's there. having said that, it bubbled up a little in a couple places that were not fixable without replacement. also, along the bottom edge of the front bumper there are couple places where it wrinkled up slightly. the guy tried to correct this and it helped a little but you can still see where the wrinkles were. you can kind of see them along the bottom edge of the red, right where it changes to gray on the front bumper here:
http://jpmcgphotography.smugmug.com/...4_5wBBW-XL.jpg notice you don't see any lines (and yes, they would show up if the entire section wasn't done) |

I'm not happy with mine, however mine wasn't a choice, it came without he car.
On black it stands out like a sore thumb. Some idiot got wax in the line and I get asked all the time about the "scratch" in my hood. I'm peeling mine off my hood and fenders when I get the time, but I'll prolly knave it on the bumper. |
Mine has been on for about 20k miles.
My side mirror sections are starting to peel and dirt got under it so it's turning black now. I'll probably just pull them off... Not to mention my hood has a few chips UNDER the clear bra. |
I've been told it's a bad idea to peel it off yourself. And it's a bad idea to peel it off all together, is this true? Will it really eff up your clearcoat/paint?
|
I'm not really sure... I haven't tried to peel it off, it just started doing it by itself.

The idea of putting a semi permanent vinyl over top paint to protect paint that will never see sunlight because it's under vinyl is the most retarded thing in the world in my head. You can buff/touchup/repaint chips easily. But when the clearbra gets nicks in it it looks way worse and is uncorrectable |
There's a shop here on the west side that does it, I might roll up there and get a quote on how much removal/replacement would cost. It's a definate need for me since AZ is notorious for rocky/sandy roads. Plus on the long trips to cali/back it will defintely come in handy to keep on.
|
No heat is needed, but you can use some to make removal a bit easier if you want.
Sunlight does penetrate the vinyl, although some UV is blocked. I have seen cars that were covered for 5+ years have the vinyl removed and you could not see a difference in the paint between the covered and uncovered. The decision has a lot to do with where you live and drive. Here in N. Virginia, especially on I-95, rocks are constantly pellting the front bumper. I never found it easy to touch-up all of those rock chips and keep it nice looking, and I tried. |
as for taking it off, i've heard that any spray that's safe for taking off the adhesive tint uses is good for the paint too. it will probably take some soaking and polishing to get all the adhesive off but i'm sure it's doable...
|
I was waiting for a decent front kit to come out that I liked, but since one hasn't and the Zele hasn't dropped in price, I guess I'm stuck with stock for now. But I think I'll leave it to a shop to remove/replace before trying to tackle it myself.

My 370 has some rock chips that probably wouldn't be there had I gotten a CB. Still, the change in texture over time as compared to the paint, convinced me that I'll live with the odd chip. Maybe the Platinum Graphite color of my 370 wouldn't have been as obvious as the black on the Accord(?). To each their own.... |
Yeah, paint chips and the touch-up paint blobs look better than a practically invisible film. :wtf2:

I've got the Ventureshield, full front hood, bumper, fenders and mirrors. Its an investment for me to keep it protected.

I have half hood, half fenders, I usually have to point out to most people I have a clear bra...I can see the line...but its not something that stands out
All nicely laser precut... |
