Dont buy this

ImageShack - Image Hosting :: large311123.jpg

DO not buy this from any vendor or ebay or anyone else. this thing looks like crap in real life, specially under the sun. It looks like someone went around stealing side markers of 370z and sticking it to a piece of a carbon fiber that's been melted on to a plastic cup for shape.

on the other hand. i need something to go on the car instead of the nissan emblem because i took mine off (both of them ) and i was thinking of replacing them with this but when i saw it in real life i was like :shakes head:

is there a black nissan emblem that can go instead of this one because when i took mine off and i sanded it the end result was terrible.

there is this for the 350z but will it fit on the 370z? But then again i dont really want something from a 350 to go on the 370. is this one better looking then the one above?

thnx:tup: i drove for 1:30 to the location to that crap and i was so disappointed that i didnt want anyone else to go through the same thing. its so cheaply made. they just took the side marker and glued it to a piece of carbon fiber.

arcticreaver 04-06-2009 02:35 PM

thanks for the heads up. i was thinking about these because i wanted to get the carbon fiber pillars and mirror covers.

armensti 04-07-2009 01:22 AM

so is there anything like this that i can use?

how does the one for the 350z fit on the 350z? because i rather get that one then the regular nissan one. im not a fan of shiny chrome looking things on my car.

You must have went to the same shop I did :icon18:, yes they looked really bad, I had cash in my pocket and ready to buy. Yep, just a side marker glued onto a piece of poorly molded carbon fiber. I posted in the other thread that SoCal started.

nismored 04-07-2009 08:04 AM

Welp, since the emblems are already off, you could take some mfine grit to them and spray a few coats of primer, a bunch of coats of black paint and then top that off with some flat, matte, or shiny clear coat, depending on your preference.

i went to this one. Great guys and the service was good too but the emblem is just crap so i ended up with the black license plate holder with the 370z on it.

i would have to sand off the chrome right?

Since it is plastic that is chrome plated try this: Cola as Chrome Remover

nismored 04-07-2009 01:54 PM

I would scuff it up with a fine grit paper. I highly doubt it is a metal emblem that is literally chrome plated. I am fairly confident that it is plastic with a silver layer. I don't think i needs to be sanded, it just needs a rough surface to adhere. Do very light layers and take your time. You can wet sand in between sprays to get a really smooth nice look. Once you get a few layers of clear on there it should turn out nice and not chip easily.

You're correct it is not metal; it is plastic with a chrome plating.

I too am anxious to see whether this works on our emblems. A custom plater can remove the chrome, but it will cost you.

nismored 04-07-2009 02:26 PM

im telling you. sanding it will be fine, there is no need to remove the chrome plating. If you want to do all hat go ahead. Scuff--->Paint--->Wetsand--->Paint--->repeatx3--->Clearx3---> Done

nismored 04-07-2009 02:26 PM

all for about 12 dollars and a couple hours.

i tired that and the end results were terrible lol i used sand paper and the chrome doesnt come off. you need to spend about 2 hours with the sandpaper to get it all off. i think if i use coca cola and then after few days sand off the remains it will look perfect.

The Cola solution may or may not work depending on the plating, but my past experience with sanding and painted anything that is at the front of vehicles simply gets rock chipped as the rock or debris hits the paint, which is softer than the chrome underneath, and chips to where you can see the sanded chrome material. :twocents:

Well, that sucks. When I first saw your pictures I thought the Coke has eaten your emblem!

Have you seen these emblems?

no lol i tried to sand it and thats why some of the bottom part doesnt have the chrome but the whole nissan part does and when i took it out today the coke did nothing to it.

and for the emblems i have seen some but not all, i guess i havent looked hard enough. is it a trust worthy site? and by the way i would not recommend any of them because it says that the it doesn't fit in the back. so i think im just gonna get the stock ones from the dealer and paint them

RCZ 04-08-2009 12:31 PM

Wasn't 370Zsource pushing these?

The rear emblem is smaller than the front emblem, and who knows, maybe the emblems on the 370Z are a bit different in angles from following the body contours. Only time will tell. I was going to go for a different front emblem, and I would have sent you our front emblem for free, but my wife likes the Nissan emblem.

Mike 06-10-2009 08:18 AM

so, if I debadge the car and take off the front and rear emblems, will there be holes in the bumper/trunk lid? or are these flat backed without locating pegs?

No Pegs, but there is a 1/4" depression in the bumper that the emblem sits in.......Classic de-badging is out because of this...You'd need to plastic weld in a filler piece, Finish with a plastic bondo and paint.

2theextreme 06-10-2009 09:43 AM

Ok, I'm gonna ask a silly question and I'm good at asking silly ones....but why would anyone want to "de-badge" their car?

SoCal 370Z 06-10-2009 10:06 AM

Armensti actually painted his emblems to match his Z and they turned out very well as I saw them when MiniCobra1 had our first meet.

KillerBee370 06-10-2009 10:35 AM

I'm going to do mine in flat black. My doorhandles won't be far behind.

Somehow this doesn't surprise me. ;)

Mike 06-10-2009 11:03 AM

Thanks Steve,
Maybe I will get them painted black then.

I just like the clean look. I have always debadged all of my cars, although I did wind up rebadging the vette as the front looked to big and plain without the crossed flags.

Will definitely need a nice DIY or plenty of pictures for this.
Mike is right, if you take the badges off it gives it a clean look but can also really open up and make it look big. There was a picture of a 370Z (red) with the 370z removed and it just looked to open, but he was putting the Fairlady Z badge on so it was temporary.

Some people (me included) don't like the Nissan 'burger' logo - partly because of its ugly looks and partly because, in general, the brand name 'Nissan' can have negative associations for people with sports cars - they are looked down on by some.

On the other hand, a nice big 'Z' in the middle of your car, front and rear, has an element of kudos - the Z cars are well respected, so promote the Z and hide the Nissan! I know I'm not alone in this thought. Re-badging is one of the first things I've done to both of my Z's. I also like the idea of a 'clean look - but I can't be bothered with all that time and effort in achieving it.

If you can't find a Z badge yet, the idea of sanding and painting the 'burger' is the best one - You don't need to de-chrome it cos it ain't chrome.

FricFrac 06-11-2009 06:55 PM

It looks like there are badges available for the front but none for the rear - is anyone coming out with a Z for the rear?

g96818 06-12-2009 01:23 AM

thezstore said their first batch was defective, i'm guessing you bought one form the first production batch

The Z Store! Nissan-Datsun 240Z-260Z-280Z-280ZX-300ZX(Z31/Z32)-350Z-370Z Parts: Carbon Fiber Front Emblem, 2009 370Z

FricFrac 06-12-2009 09:40 AM

Curious to see what the black ones are like - they are quite expensive there though and it looks like there is still no rear emblem and thats the first one I want to replace....

defective in the rear yes but its still a very ugly thing to do to your car. i rather have a blacked out nissan sign then to take the side marker of the car and glue it on a piece of carbon fiber and use it as a emblem.

before you guys waste 80 bucks make sure its returnable or at least see it in person UNDER THE SUN AND ON YOUR CAR
