F1 Style Rear Blinker
As most people know, we are a direct, authorized distributor of MCR.
MCR just informed us last night that their next option for the Z34 is an F1 Style Rear Blinker kit. Basically, the center light on the rear bumper will blink while the car is in reverse, just like on the F1 cars. Pricing has not been discussed at this current point in time as it is still in the concept stages. Please let me know what you all think about this. |
I definitely believe this is advantageous on the 370Z!
|
well i guess it would depend on the price if i wanted to get it or not. if not overly expensive, i would want it.
|
Yup
I'd be interested based on price.
|
I would be interested if it could also function as a rear fog light.
|
^ +1
|
Yeah!!!! Rear fog!!!!!!
|
I just notified our foreign relations department to contact MCR to see if the rear fog light addition is something that they might want to consider.

I would rather it blink when braking. |

The reality is that the Z taillights alone are very bright and probably negate the need for a rear fog light. The blinking reverse light is a nice touch given that rearward views in the car are terrible and the blinking light might be helpful for other drivers to notice the Z backing up. I'm not sure having that light blink while braking is street-legal...and again it's redundant. I'm loving the reverse blinking idea though.

Any update on this old post 370ZTune? Definitely interested.

I’m not expert on this issue but it’s my understanding that the reason why U.S. spec. 370s don’t have a functional real fog light is because the fog light provided for Euro and Can spec vehicles don’t confirm to U.S. regulations.
Now, as a practical matter, I doubt anyone would get pulled over by a LEO if they are using a rear fog light as a true rear fog light (that is, turned on in foggy/low visibility conditions, etc.). However, I would be cautious about using the rear fog light as an additional brake light or other use that may attract attention you don’t want. I've got the J-spec light and am waiting on a switch from Japan (to mount in the center counsel in the empty space between the two heated seat switches) so that I can turn the light on/off manually as desired...hopefully that will work out as intended. :) |

sounds cool enough but I would rather have a rear camera mounted behind it (with smoked plastic not black obviously)

Any update on this yet? I am interested in doing SOMETHING with that blank patch in the back .. perhaps rear camera / brake light / blinking back-up light ??
|
I'd be in depending on price. I get worried while backing up, so the more visible the better.

It is a fog Lamp designed to cut through FOG, it is a very bright light. It would be to distractive to have on all the time. You really need an on/off switch for it to be effective and utilized for it's designed purpose. |

If I were to design the ultimate rear fog, this is what I'd want. 1. Able to stay on with regular lights (same brightness as the rears) as to not upset other drivers when they are behind you. 2. Blinks when brakes are applied (4 times) then gets brighter like the brake lights. 3. Turns White when put in reverse. 4. Switch to disable 5. Oil slick, to disable closing in drivers. (ok, maybe I've gone too far now) wow, this thing does a lot :bowrofl: |
I'm in! The blinking back-up sounds GREAT! Anything is better then BLANK!!
|
I would like the 3rd brake light as part of the blinking reserve as well. The lower fog light is just that—low on the car. With the addition of the 3rd brake light it would really alert others that you are backing-up, especially if they were coming down a lane in a parking lot as you are backing out of your parking space.

The spot is so large, I think I would make a multi-use out of it. A superbright white LED cluster for backup, a 1157 superbright red LED cluster for tail-light/braking and a backup camera. The LED's could be shoe-horned into the opening and easily tapped off the existing brake light wiring harness, then all you need to do is run the wires for the backup camera up to the console and connect it to your display/video input. (obviously aftermarket as well...)

Rear Camera |
I'm happy to report that my working J Spec rear fog light has been installed and is working quite well.
I had a dealer do the actual work but it was a fairly painless - we ordered a spare "heated seat" switch to put in the center (unused) space between the driver and passenger heated seat switches and it works perfectly. The light came from motorsportauto.com plus the cost of the switch (about $17) and about two hours of labor. I don't know how often I'll ever actually use the rear fog but the real thing is a lot more attractive than the dummy unit our American spec cars get plus it's nice to know the light is there if conditions warrant using it. |
I am interested in the light for reversing and I think it would be a bonus if we had the to turn it on for when the conditions apply for needing a fog light..
