BlueBat's tail light overlays install problems???
So I took the overlays to a professional tint shop because I have no experience working with vinyl film or tint or anything like that. After assuring me they could do it, it turns out once they had them laid out they couldn't get them to lay down without bubbling and crinkling. They fed me some bull**** about how they were too big and no one could get them to fit. Is the guy at the tint shop just a big idiot and has no skill at all? The whole reason I took it to a shop is because I didn't wanna mess them up... obviously some people have had success with the exact same overlays. So needless to say I'm pissed off and am just looking to see if anyone else that has used these overlays had any problems or if the the tint place I took my Z to is full of a bunch of 5th grade drop outs. Thanks for the piece of mind guys.

Same thing happened to me, they couldn't get them to wrap around. Regardless of the amount of heat applied it would still not lay flat..but considering others have done it, I think we chose a bad shop :shakes head:
|
Ya I watched them try to do it, they kept telling me they were too big or something. If anyone that has had success in installing these overlays, your input would really be appreciated. Especially if you are around the Dallas area and you found a shop that knows what they are doing.
|
I have an authorized installer in Dallas! pm me for contact. Guys, My installers have installerd countless 370z overlays with no issues. Many times these shops will brag about 20 years experience in window tint, but tint is different than Vinyl!

Dallas is too far away from me :(
|
were they using a heat gun at all? it really makes the stuff conform
|
what do the 370z overlays look like?
|
ya he was heating it up and stretching it all over... guess he just was used to tint and not vinyl. Hey bat I sent you a pm.
|
the main part that was giving them the most trouble was when the light makes that concave turn on the outside of the car and down at the bottom on the rear. I was watching them and it was giving them hell. The overlay was trash after about 10 minutes of them messing with it.
|
^^ Same here, I just got one left, so I might have as well have nothing at all lol. They used a heat gun and the stuff got all soft and flexible but it just would not wrap around.

yep the exact same spots for me. But to give bat some props, I emailed him about the situation and he hooked me up with some new overlays and a guy in dalls to install them for me that he knows can do it. So you may wanna shoot him an email if you are interested in trying again. Great customer service bluebat! Thanks Andy

I went through 2 sets of taillight tint, & bluebat did not give me any free tint. I'm def pissed and at $40 a set, I rather not buy it again. The 370z has the hardest taillights of any car made to tint, I can tell you that for sure.
|
I just need the left taillight overlay replaced but he's got no installer near Houston and the replacement aint gonna be free lol so I think I'm gonna leave the taillights alone for now

Bat™ btw-the most complex overlay to put on are the altimas. |
I def agree with andy. I had an altima myself and that is much harder than ours.

i did the altima tail light overlay back when i had an altima, it was a PITA, but if you do it right and you are patient it comes out fine. you are basically taking a FLAT piece of vinyl and putting it over a curved/angular surface. You need to stretch/heat etc in order to get it to fit, of course there will be crinkles until its actually installedd. You just heat and stretch until you get it to it flat. I'm pretty sure vinyls/tail light overlays are a lot more annoying to put on than tint. window tint involves putting a flat piece of material on a more or less flat survace (windows only have a slight curvature). tail lights, fangs, valances etc have many curves and angles. Theres no such thing as a BAD vinyl, unless it like, rips when you try to put it on, but if it doesn't lay right, and there are other people out there getting them on perfectly, then its the isntallers error. i have bought vinyl's and overlays from other people than blu, and none of them gave you free vinyls if you messed up. They'd give you a discount, but not free. |
The bends on the Altima are almost 80 degrees! But, my authorized installers can do them :).

i'm on long island. i mean i'm not a shop, i'm just like, a guy that can install overlays pretty well, its not really something i would say i'd want to do for pay on a regular basis, its more just like helping out a friend kind of thing. I mean, if someone wanted to pay me to install overlays i guess i would, but it would really be more like installing here and there.
what do installers usually get paid to do these? |
Quite a few of my installers work out of their garages. Many are customers of mine who've installed these for their cars and friends cars. Its a good suplimental income, even if you wanna do it part time. My installer down here in San Diego pulled in $400.00 on installs alone this weekend :). I have an installer in Long Island, but you can never have enough of them. PM me your contact info if you're interested. Tails run from 40-60 a pair for install depending on complexity.

Andy has a great product, many happy customers from Newcelica.org... good man he is!
|
i know this isn't related but Andy did you make these?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4.../IMG954176.jpg i'm interested =) |
When I started this thread it was in no way shape or form intended to insinuate that bat or his products are not up to par. I was just curious to see if anyone else has had trouble with their installers mainly because I took my car to a tint shop I had used 100 times before and they assured me it was no problem to wrap the tail lights... yet 10 minutes into it I knew they were full of s***. Bat gave me a discount on some vinyl to replace the overlays the shop messed up and hew as very quick about it. I told him about my problem on Sat afternoon and he is shipping the replacements out today. Can't do much better than that. Thanks Andy.
