Carbon Fiber Roof, anybody?

I'm pretty sure I am having the roof wrapped in carbon fiber but wanted to see if anybody has done this? I know mostly everybody paints theirs black "i did on my old 350z" but thinking something different.

Let me know if anybody has it done on there Z. Pics would be awesome:tup:

kenchan 01-14-2011 04:12 PM

If your talking about real then there are a few overlays out there. There was a used one forsale on here awhile back.

sexZness 01-14-2011 05:12 PM

I'm scheduling mine to be done end of this month

lol @ Kenchan... I'm not sure which cf vinyls you guys are referring to but I'm getting the new 3M 1080 (or whatever it's called) CF vinyl on my roof, fangs, diffuser and maybe pillars.

res0zsfa 01-14-2011 08:35 PM

the new 3m 1080 is the glossy carbon one right??

sexZness 01-14-2011 09:21 PM

It is glossy.. now that I think about it :P but it's also more detailed and realistic

Big J 01-15-2011 12:04 AM

More realistic than the di-noc?

Maybe there is a better pic in the link

kenchan 01-15-2011 07:22 AM

Maybe...

Carbon_z 01-17-2011 06:24 PM

i wasnt considering vinyl... but instead going with real carbon fiber and then clear coated..... something to match my interior.

I am just not a fan of the vinyl look.

Lemers 01-17-2011 06:31 PM

Need someone to vinyl CF their whole Z. It would be different than the black vinyl Zs out there.

AK370Z 01-17-2011 06:38 PM

Here's SUNLINE carbon fiber (real, glossy) roof. Always admired it. I personally think it looks good.

if you can come up with something like that, do you think you'll have good sales?

SPOHN 01-17-2011 06:41 PM

That's clean right there. I'd be game for that.

c41006 01-17-2011 06:47 PM

Thats exactly what im talking about :happydance: what is it a overlay??? im going to check that out.

Carbon_z 01-17-2011 06:55 PM

wow, just checked out their prices... THEY are HIGH and I think overpriced. They had 3 total different prices ranging from 1100 to 2200 but noticed there other parts where a bit on the high end also. I may just have to have the roof actually wrapped. Much cheaper than 1-2 grand.

About $895 shipped. 370ZTUNE.com

Not bad I think but still a bit high. However, it looks good.

SPOHN 01-17-2011 07:17 PM

I'd rather have a hood for that price.

cereal2k 01-17-2011 07:45 PM

I like those CF roof covers.

shaun66 01-17-2011 07:56 PM

Here's a used one for sale from one of the vendors.

http://www.the370z.com/body-interior...condition.html

Carbon_z 01-17-2011 08:59 PM

850 price is much more reasonable but agreed still on the highend. How do you apply that big of an overlay with double sided tape lol.... anybody drive doing 85mph with a carbon fiber roof overlay yet?

I can get my roof hand wrapped for a lot cheaper but joggling the idea. Might just do it but arghhhh.... damn stickers.

sexZness 02-07-2011 05:59 PM

I wished mine came out shiny, but it's not that bad :)

Here's my CF roof

sexZness 02-07-2011 06:51 PM

370Z JT 02-07-2011 07:46 PM

Paint would have probably looked better but I was thinking long-term... I will change the look of my Z one more time before settling down

bullitt5897 02-08-2011 12:44 PM

1080 is good... I just ordered some dinoc for my sti interior and exterior bits. See if you can get a close up of the 1080 I want to see what the differences are... I will be redoing my Gloss black roof DiNoc for sure!

GZ3 02-08-2011 12:54 PM

i think the gloss works well for the roof cause its like an extension to the glass.

bullitt5897 02-08-2011 01:00 PM

I dont like it cause it shows smudges and is light where it was stretched....

I'm meeting with some Gs tonight and one of them is using the dinoc for his interior, so I'll try to capture the two in one pic to see if there's a visual difference between the two... but like I said, my camera's crap :shakes head:

The 1080 is supposed to have a better adhesive, easier to remove, and be more flexible than dinoc. I've seen and felt both and the dinoc is definitely a lot thinner and has less texture and detail than the 1080.

Regarding the high gloss black roof vinyl concept is great but when it's on, it just looks like a very shiny vinyl lol doesn't strike me as being glass at all.

kenchan 02-08-2011 01:51 PM

yah, the beauty of vinyl is you can undo it.

sexZness 02-10-2011 01:28 PM

What's 3D cf vinyl?

Bluebatmobile 02-10-2011 04:44 PM

Hexis.

Hexis Carbon Fiber Film is highly conformable
Hexis Carbon Wrap Film is similar to 3M's Di-Noc Architectural Film that you may have heard of or seen, but it has some major differences that make Hexis THE clear choice for automotive applications over 3M's Di-Noc!
Hexis Carbon 3M Di-Noc
Designed for automotive and exterior use in mind? Yes No - Di-Noc was designed as an interior Architectural Finish
Removable at some point down the road? Yes fully reversible No*
Not without significant damage to what it was applied to
Dimensionally stable after thermoforming on complex surfaces? Yes No*
Surface primer (adhesion promoter) necessary
Exterior application life expectancy - vertical application? 3-5 Years depending on climate (will last longer in northern climates) 3-4 years (will last longer in northern climates)
Exterior application to a horizontal surface? (ie Hood, Roof, Trunk overlay) Yes with 40% reduction in life over vertical application if unprotected No, not recommended at all
Seamless application on large surfaces? Yes in most cases - Max width is 54 inches / 1370 mm Maybe but Max width is only 48 inches / 1218 mm
