bullitt5897 11-29-2010 03:01 PM

just got mine too

ProfessorDave 11-29-2010 03:05 PM

Thanks for the pics! A correction and question:
I am fairly certain that the Orange wire is REVERSE in the taillight harness. Green is Brake.

How is the light mounted to the Z? Are we going to be using the old black plastic frame? Double sided tape?

kenchan 11-29-2010 03:09 PM

yah, that housing looks very thin vs the oem fog lamp?

Not sure but I think we gonna reusing the old frame. The kit coming with double side tape.

dropped1 11-29-2010 03:41 PM

Apparently the EVO R product development team LOVE'S double sided tape. :icon14: It's the NEW duct tape, fix all cure all mount all.

ProfessorDave 11-29-2010 04:48 PM

You can bet I'll be modifying THAT! Double sided tape is for trim. Screws are for foglights!

TipsZ 11-29-2010 04:49 PM

I have not made it home yet, but my wife told me earlier that a package from Taiwan arrived today. However, has anyone made a definitive choice as to whether we should somehow reuse the OEM housing with this?

ProfessorDave 11-29-2010 04:56 PM

TipZ, although I haven't received mine yet, the pics looks like we are to use double sided tape to stick the light to the valance. I'm sure we can come up with something better re-using the stock backing bracket and some long screws. I feel a Macgyver/Macgruber moment coming on...

Chris_1 11-29-2010 05:12 PM

I am liking this little product big time, plus I am a light whore lol so love seeing lights everywhere.

ProfessorDave 11-29-2010 06:07 PM

Um, Chris, you're not supposed to admit to being a light whore. You're supposed to act with indifference. Like, "that's a nice light, I guess."

shaun66 11-29-2010 06:18 PM

So if you wired it with instructions provided by EVO-R, it will flash only when braking right?

ProfessorDave 11-29-2010 07:00 PM

If you follow those instructions, it will only flash in reverse.

atl370z 11-29-2010 07:06 PM

I wonder if EVO R does local pick up in Taiwan?

chuckd05 12-01-2010 08:59 PM

What color is the reverse wire ? I want it to flash when in reverse but stay on when I hit the brake...

kevr6 12-01-2010 09:30 PM

Still haven't gotten mine!!!:ugh2:

Orange for reverse, green for brake:tup:

I wonder if you spliced into both... would it work for both... Or would that be overkill???

I want the same. Anyone figured this out?

I'm pretty sure this is what you guys are trying to do. I think Jay said on the original thread that this would cause the brake light to appear brighter if the flashing mode was also activated (by the reverse lights in this case).

Hey ProfessorDave .. do you know if that was confirmed yet? I still haven't had time to install mine .. and to be honest I think I am putting the install of my exhaust before I contemplate working on the this light. Even though I received the package back on Tuesday . .I just have not been able to make the time (part of that is I do not want to lay on a cold garage floor at 10pm at night trying to get this installed .. lol)

I too would prefer to have both functions.. if you could help guide me through that process, I would much appreciate it and in fact .. would even buy you a Cohiba or if you prefer flavor over just a big name then perhaps a Padilla Miami, the next time you make it out to Ybor! LOL

XwChriswX 12-03-2010 02:31 PM

I finished wiring mine up last night, Expect pics/vid/DIY tonight/this weekend.

Comes On with the running lights

Blinks on both Braking AND reverse.

That works for me! I look forward to the DIY.

It took me longer to remove the old light than it did to do my exhaust! I hope you have better luck with yours:ugh2:

Looks like xwchriswx has done exactly what you're looking for, so when he posts his DIY the cigar will have to go to him:icon17:. Although I'd take the Padilla over the cohiba anyday:tup:

TipsZ 12-06-2010 08:25 AM

Still waiting on Chris's DIY .. lol

kevr6 12-06-2010 07:28 PM

Looks like customs was holding mine up! Hopefully soon!

Same here. I got the slip in the mail yesterday that the package is ready for pickup at the post office:excited:

ProfessorDave 12-07-2010 02:33 PM

A couple questions for you guys who have them installed already:

The shrink tube included doesn't look like it will fit over the splice connectors. Any issues with this?

What is the hole for in the back of the light (above where the wires go through the housing) for? Should I worry about moisture getting in there (there's go to be some spray from the rear wheels directed at this area of the rear valance).

I plan to do a partial install tomorrow (painting my valance black first). I may not get to the wiring for another week unfortunately.

kenchan 12-07-2010 02:39 PM

professordave- (slighty off topic but....) you're not painting your valance in cold weather are you? need at least 75F to get good adhesion...

I have a space heater I can bring into the garage which should work if I let it run a bit before I start spraying :ugh2: I hope.

kenchan 12-07-2010 02:56 PM

space heater + spray paint = BOOOM!!

:icon17: It's electric. Although kerosine or propane would be more exciting...

ncheung85 12-07-2010 09:32 PM

I just use electrical tape to cover those connector. How do you use those little red tube, I can't seem to clamp the wires in them? They keep falling off. lol.

I end up using more of quick disconnect.

Good idea. I have a ton of different connectors (well, more like a couple ounces). Or I might wrap and heat shrink.

ProfessorDave 12-08-2010 11:58 AM

I decided against painting the rear valance until spring. But here is a DIY of how to install the light, and wire up the FLASH function:
DIY for EVO-R Foglight

Super Tanooki 08-23-2011 01:45 PM

I just bought one of these. I've looked at the DIYs here but they're not set up exactly how I want it, and electrical work makes me nervous. How would I set it up to behave EXACTLY like the video of that Nismo EVO-R has on its site, so constantly on at part-brightness when headlights are on, and blinking at full brightness when braking? Do I need to buy additional parts/resistors beyond what's in the kit?
