S Mode Button

is it possible to install the s mode button in place of the blank dummy button on the automatic. would it still be able to light up when the lights come on. is there a plug for it located underneath the shifter or do you have to splice the wires into the hazard button. any help would be appreciated. thanks

js1 11-19-2010 06:41 AM

anyone?

ChrisSlicks 11-19-2010 07:41 AM

I would think that the automatics and manuals would have different wiring harnesses so I would say that there is nothing there for it, but I could be wrong.

js1 11-19-2010 08:04 AM

that's what i thought. i was thinking maybe if there was a way to splice the wire from the hazard button to the s mode button. im not really sure. thought i would ask first

Spicing the backlight power connection shouldn't be problem.

js1 11-19-2010 08:26 AM

i have to look to see what the wire looks like. thanks

Question... You want to do this for the sake of filling in a blank?

js1 11-19-2010 08:31 AM

yes. i just want the s mode button to light up when the lights are turned on. i dont like the blank button

This can be done, just pull the shifter panel off and with a volt meter determine which wire is for the illumination. This is easy by setting your dash lights at half brightness and look for voltage in the 6-8 volt range. Can be verifiyed by increasing/ decreasing the brightness and the voltage should rise/ or fall too. No splice into this wire and run to the S mode switch and plug into the back. You may need a small wire terminal availible at radio shack if needed. As for which pin to use you may need a schematic to find out. You'll also need the ground terminal also this can be spliced into the ground on the hazard lamp.

S-Mode Blank Slot is where I have my "GO Baby" NOS Button :P

kenchan 11-19-2010 11:28 AM

shouldn't be hard to hardwire a backlight LED. make sure you get a dim LED though...

i did something real similar to my MIRROR switch on my other car. i had to play with the resistors until it was tame at night cause i only had bright LED's in my parts box. :D

I don't have S-mode I test dove the S-mode and turned it on, one thing I realized was that it was harder to shift to the gear I wanted to for example 5th to 3rd, it was like the car shifted for me and it revved while doing it, don't like the lack of control, anywho I agree the blank spots and dummy buttons on base models or no s-mode on automatic needs to be filled in with something it just doesn't feel or look right to me, maybe they will make a nice dummy button mod that has functionalbility and serves a purpose instead of just lighting up keeping my fingers crossed but def not hding my breath on this:excited:

Jordo! 11-19-2010 09:17 PM

I think it has a shifter pattern on it... it will look weird. I'd leave it be...

js1 11-20-2010 05:40 AM

(bump) I believe the illumination wire for the hazard light is the left most spot on the connector. I am assuming this because it reads about 8 volts until the headlights are turned on, then it goes up to 12+.

Anyone confirm/refute my logic? I'm no electrician...
