Seeing out the back

Hey guys, so I'm looking to pickup a Z in the next few months, but am really nervous about being ablento see out the back. I stopped by the car show this weekend and sat in the car three different times and couldn't seem to get past the fact that when looking in the rear view mirror, it's a very limited view. I love the design of the Z, but this fact alone is pushing me towards the g37. I feel like the 350z was the same way, but have yet to actually drive the 370z. Do u just get used to it?

I've had my Z for about 4 months now.
Out the back in the rearview mirror does not bother me at all.
Now, backing out of a parking space, and a little bit of a blindspot in the back right, do.
But you learn to live with it.

If you set the mirrors right, you will have absolutely no problems seeing out the back window and your blind spots. You should not go with the G37 because of this...

Compared to like a sedan or something, sure it seems hard to see out the back. But as someone who has had an assload of sports cars, it's not much different than any of the rest.

the only thing that still bothers me is making a 45 degree left...

Example = K if I was coming down the top crooked line of the K and busted a left towards the bottom straight... wouldnt see a lick of anything without serious head movements leaning foward or just flooring it and merging lol jk..

thats the only true annoyance of driving this car and dealing with blind spots... Many people do not setup there mirrors right, I taught several people how I set them up and all of them had theres completely wrong. Sort of overlooked is how to properly set up your side and rear view mirrors.

Got my Z a few weeks back. Adjusted the mirrors properly (which in my case was as far "out" as they go), and not at all fearing the blindspots that were such a concern to me also before I actually had the car.

Now, perhaps they are there and since you can't see what you can't see, I may eat these words some day, but I hope not! :icon14:

On the left I am using the "lean forward and look back" method just to be sure.

On the right the "porthole" is actually useful as long as the passenger seat is not all the way back. Not sure I'd see a motorcycle or a Smart Car if it was exactly between the rear and right side mirror fields, but seeing normal-sized vehicles ok I think.

Not sure it's the vehicle I'd pick to weave in and out of Manhattan traffic every day, but for most situations I wouldn't let the "blindspots" keep me from buying this car. :driving:

Use the Mirrors, and backup slowly.

I just drive with the hatch open, 100% rear visibility!!

Wait, so the main reason why you would buy one car over another is rear view mirror viability....yeaaaa right good luck.

2011's have rear view camera option

kenchan 11-15-2010 10:44 AM

definitely get a rearview camera. :) clear view of short things (like barricade posts/stops) you wont see through your rear glass or your side mirrors.

I'm not sure why that would be such a surprise to you? I like everything else about the car except the fact that seeing out the back is extremely limited. I had better visibility out the back of my s2000 with the soft top. To me, the Z has such a flat lined roof, that the visibility is very limited. Like a lot of people on the forum, who are car enthusiasts, I've driven a lot of cars, german, domestic, imports, porsches etc, and I think the Z has the smallest visibility out the back. I'm not concerned about seeing out of the blindspots, I think that comes with the territory of buying a sports car. However, I was concerned about seeing directly out of the back, especially knowing that there are heavy blindspots out of the sides. Yea the G37 is a lot different than the Z, but there are obviously a lot of similarities, and rear visibility is not an issue in the G. I just like the Z a lot more (design wise) than the G, so I wanted to get some owners' perspective. Not sure why that causes you so much stress?
