What are the OEM's rated at? 4300k?

tru_Asiatik 04-12-2009 10:14 AM

If I'm not mistaken, most OEM manufacturers use a 4300K bulb because it produces the most lumens possible compared to other K temperature bulbs. I know a lot of them use the Phillips bulbs.

Stock harness? Isn't it just a matter of unclipping the bulb from the projector bowl and clipping in a new bulb? At least that's how it's done on my other cars. The K temperature shouldn't affect anything because the bulbs are just different in color. They should still use the same 35w ballast if I'm not mistaken.

If it's like my IS350 and my Civic (with s2000 projectors retrofitted in), then it's just a matter of buying the correct bulb, unclipping the old bulb, removing the bulb, then clipping the new bulb back in and making sure you didn't mess anything up in the process.

Just make sure it's a D2s bulb. That bulb is standard issue for most OEM HID applications. I personally use Phillips 4300k 85122+ bulbs in my other cars. I might switch to the Phillips Ultinon 6000k bulbs for the Z.

I'll probably switch them out first thing when I receive my Z. It's not here yet, so I can't confirm everything is as I say it is. I'm just going on prior experience with other cars with HID projector headlights.

molamann 04-12-2009 11:46 AM

Wait, our Z's are true HID? I thought the Z's just came with standard xenon bulbs..

High Intensity Discharge (HID) bi-functional xenon headlights :D

DIGItonium 04-12-2009 01:20 PM

Someone told me I paid too much for my Ultinon 6000K bulbs, and he told me he got his for around $60 for a complete set. He initially said Philips bulbs, but later admitted it was some other brand when I told him what the bulbs really went for EACH. I pay for quality, so hopefully my bulbs are good. :-)

arcticreaver 04-12-2009 01:39 PM

anything about 6000k would look almost blueish right? might get pulled over by a cop then.

It's not THAT bad. The highest K temperature I'd go is 6000K. Any higher, and you're just losing lumens at the expense of having a "blueish hue" to your headlights. 4300K looks a little yellow for my tastes to be honest. You won't have any problem with anywhere between 4300K and 6000K.

Phillips Ultinons are EXPENSIVE, but they're worth it.

when i get my headlights modded at amplified, i'm going to go with 6000k.

JonnieN 04-13-2009 12:00 AM

I want to get a set of 6000K upgrade too, but dont know what brand to get. They are so many brands out there. They go from $50 to $200 per pair. Any idea guys?

tru_Asiatik 04-13-2009 12:36 AM

so the 370z bulb is D2S?? is that high and low beams?

High and low beam are just one bulb. It's the bi-xenon projector that does the work for you. But yes, the bulb is a D2s bulb. Phillips 85122+ are good in this case.

And for the brand of 6000k bulb, you get what you pay for definitely. I'd recommend the Phillips Ultinons, but that's just me.

I don't have them installed yet because I'm waiting for custom headlights to get completed. Hopefully to get them installed in May... busy month. I hope it's not blue.

marcelo929 05-24-2009 03:01 PM

When I bought my HID's for my altima I was debating 5000k or 6000k as I was trying to find the perfect white with none if any hint of blue. I ended up buying a cheap a** set of xentec for around 80 bucks a pair but the color is perfect; white with no yellow and if any a minimal hint of blue.

Only if you're in the Peoples Republic of California :-)

Sparhax 05-24-2009 07:46 PM

DO all 370z have the same headlights stock? I have a base model but was wanting to upgrade the headlights. Sorry car newb but not Electronic newb.

CBRich 05-24-2009 08:57 PM

Same headlights for all.

marcelo929 05-25-2009 12:55 AM

The lights were 5000k sorry slipped by lol

GreenJalapeno 05-25-2009 01:30 AM

6000s arent as blue as you think.. only in pictures do they look blue.. in person they look bright white with a slight slight slight tint of blue

Heres a pic from my camera phone i just took right now. Its actually a little whiter in person.
http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/a...toCroc/6ks.jpg

Yes i know cut off is terrible.. thats what you get for getting crappy ebay projectors instead of retrofits.

The bulbs say they are made in Germany right? Ebay has some for sale..but its weird because the seller is in Taiwan, while the description says the product is from germany. Kind of skeptical :shakes head:

GreenJalapeno 05-25-2009 02:08 AM

These pictures i found online are much more accurate representations of what it is in RL.

Really? My package was shipped from Canada. One of my friends recommended this site when he got stuff for his Lexus. I have pictures of the bulbs in my photo album. We'll see how it goes once I get my headlights in.

Lol. No. That's where all these mods and trends start. Cops are pretty lenient too. You can drive by a cop on the freeway at 80 and he won't even bother you. I'm sure you can rice a car out enough that it will piss the cop off to where he will bother you, but all my cars for the last 10 years have been running 35% tint all around, aftermarket exhaust, lowered and either 6k HID or blue HID look bulbs, running lights and clear side markers/turn lamps and ahve never been bothered for any of my mods. It's just that the laws are strict for emissions and safety stuff.

GreenJalapeno 05-30-2009 09:16 PM

^ hahha you're just lucky. I have gotten 2 exhaust tickets, and 2 speeding tickets...

exhaust tickets were dismissed through the CHP referral sound testing.

And as for the speeding tickets... I have gotten pulled over twice when i was just cruising with the crowd... =______=

My car isn't loud, flashy, or anything. I never shift high. But then again cops in my area give tickets left and right for j-walking

Phimosis 06-01-2009 03:55 AM

^^^ Riced!

Haha.

;-)

Does anyone know if most the manufactures, Lexus, Mercedes, etc... use 4300k for their HID OEM apps or do they vary in temperature? If anyone knows what the other cars run I'd be curious to know

CBRich 06-03-2009 02:34 PM

Any do you think that the bulbs that they sale in Ebay for $60 are a good buy?
I bought one of those for another car but they were xalogen not HID's.
