Remote Hatch Opener
1 Attachment(s)
I was browsing CourtesyParts.com and came across a rear 'trunk' opening switch. I've attached the schematic below. Interesting...anyone think they can install it?
|
 Great find = rep point!
|
im kinda wondering why you would need this? it's not like my G35C where you can't open the trunk from the outside?
|
I'd like to be able to open the hatch from the inside w/o getting out of the car. Especially when somebody else wants to put something into or take something out of the hatch.
I wonder if you could use the empty center console switch? Good find!! |
that's a motorized hatch like a minivan's rear gate? if so, that's kinda cool.
but that just looks like a lock release...(?) |
Yes, it's an interior release. I've often had people ask me to 'pop the back' and there is no way to do it without getting out of the car. This would potentially solve that problem.
|
if the doors are unlocked they could just push the back button couldn't they?

Yah... True. Do they have a red GTR trunk release button? :D
|
Passengers or people who are unfamiliar with the Z's rubber booted horizontal button location and usage, have to find it first, so I'm onboard for the behind-the-glovebox-door-fascia button.
|
i have the remote hatch release. i had them do whatever they had to do when i had my viper alarm installed. at first i was like:eekdance: now i never use it. you don't need the key to open the trunk as long as the doors are unlocked. but yes, its possible.
|
This is one of those parts that should have come installed from the factory. Every time someone wants to put something in the hatch, it's a debacle.

or you can tell whoever it is where thr trunk release button is as soon as they get in the car, and then when they ask you to open the trunk, you refuse to tell them citing the fact that they already know. or the fog light idea, but this time with the words 'this car should have come with a trunk release button from inside the car, but it didn't. the button is above the lisence plate... NO not the big one, the flat rectangular one.' I think that would fit
|
okay, I'll admit it. I'm lost.
I see a schematic illustrating an installed switch in the glove compartment. How much does the switch cost, and more to the point, what does it take to install it? Edit: Sunday, 9/19/10 I went to the 2010 Owners manual, and on page 3-19 FOR THE ROADSTER it describes a "Trunk Release Power Cancel Switch". "When you have to leave the vehicle with a valet and want to keep your belongings safe in the glove box and the trunk, push this switch to OFF and lock the glove box with the mechanical key. Then leave the vehicle and the Intelligent Key with the valet and keep the mechanical key with you." Is this maybe not what we thought it was? |
It's only $27 bucks. I may just give it a shot.
|
is it pre wired? ... if so, why not just get a momentary switch (normally open) from radioshack for like $5 and install it in your glove box? much cheaper and quicker.
|
I think the issue is the type of switch. Someone on here mentioned the BCM needs diode switches or else the signals in the BCM crosstalk and you activate more than one thing at a time.

So your choice is run wire the length of the car and hook it in parallel to the existing switch or run it back to the BCM. |
For me the best place to remotely open the hatch is on the key fob. It is when I am carrying stuff to my car I suddenly remember, "Oh yeah, it's this stupid car again."
I would use the unused convertible switch placement for the hard wired switch. |

Is there a way to tie a switch/button to the button thats already there?
|
I'd want one too actually. I've had this issue before.
|
Who is first I will take the challenge. (^_^)

I am thinking that you find the input into the actuator that opens the trunk see the power input that takes than run that to the new switch and power to the switch from the wire in the trunk that goes to the actuator.

Thank you all for your help. CBRich
"This may not be the most elegant solution but it is definitely the easiest. Remove your rear trunk paneling. Throw a multimeter on those wires as you hit the button and see whether it grounds or hooks to positive to release. Then just run the necessary one (ground or +12V) from a switch up front to the wire out back" This is basicall what I wanted to do. The simpliset thing without messing with the BMC |
From memory :), all the BCM switching is to ground.

So I'm not crazy!! I have owned a few hatchbacks and never ever would I imagine someone making a car without an interior button for popping the hatch. To make it worse, nothing on the remote. I figured I had to be missing something, checked the manual - nope - nothig!
I've only had my Z a few weeks and when I crossed the boarder last week the customs officer asked me to open the rear. I went to open the door on the car and I thought he was gonna shoot me. "Freeze, what are you doing?". Uhhhhhh, I can't open the hatch from inside, I have to open it from outside. He watched me like a hawk as I got out of the car and opened it for him. In the end, he was cool about it, but his comment summerized it best. "Beautiful car, but kinda ridiculous you can't open the hatch from inside. Never seen that before." I could only agree. Major oversight. |
