How do I open the door?

I just pick my car up from the body shop, they replaced my door handle and quarter panel. And my door won't open, yes I tried it while locked and unlocked. You guys have any idea how to open it lol

m4a1mustang 08-12-2010 06:32 PM

Does it not open from the outside or inside?

Are you able to open it from the inside or outside?

Big J 08-12-2010 06:34 PM

Lol no. It won't open from either side. But the handle and door lock moves freely like it did when it was new.

Big J 08-12-2010 06:38 PM

This is the passenger door btw.

Maybe they forgot to attach the mechanism that actually opens the door latch. The outside and inside handles wont work unless they actually release the latch in the door frame....I think.

Big J 08-12-2010 06:52 PM

So I'm wondering what thier plan is to open the door to get to the mechanism when I take it back up there. I really don't want them climbing all over the driver seat and center console to get to the door.

Until you can get back to the shop you can press and hold the unlock button on your remote and both windows should roll-down. You can reach into the car and open the door via the inside door handle. I do not know whether this sets off the alarm, but give it a try.

Good info.

So for some reason the door is now opening from the inside but looks like the new handle is just not hooked up.

Big J 08-12-2010 07:27 PM

http://www.the370z.com/diy-section-d...r-handles.html

According to this, there are 2 wires hooked to the handle. One for the keyless entry and one to open the door. Hopefully the door one is not connected bc the keyless entry works.

I modded my driver interior door handle. If the guy forgot to connect the wire back, you're screwed because the door panel has to be removed in order to fix it. The door needs to be open to remove the door panel.

Big J 08-12-2010 07:43 PM

I can open the door from the inside. Removing the door panel isn't a big deal. Why am I screwed? Why wouldn't the wire be just sitting there not connected?

nogoodname 08-12-2010 07:47 PM

Oh... Wait a second. I thought you said it doesn't open from the outside or inside. Nevermind then.

Big J 08-12-2010 07:47 PM

It's the outer handle that's not working.

Big J 08-12-2010 08:08 PM

I did, but read post 8. My bad.

m4a1mustang 08-12-2010 08:11 PM

Well I would definitely take it back to the body shop and make them fix it.

Big J 08-12-2010 09:16 PM

Problem is. The body shops hours are while I'm working and they aren't open on weekends. I took the outer handle off. There was a electrical wire and a braided wire, for the lock unlocking assume. I saw nothing out of the ordinary:(

m4a1mustang 08-12-2010 09:17 PM

Might have to take time off then... that sucks.

Big J 08-12-2010 09:42 PM

I wonder if there could be a fuse issue.

hfrog355 02-01-2014 08:11 AM

I want to bump this thread because randomly my passenger door won't open from the outside. The handle pulls but nothing happens. I searched for a more recent thread but didn't see anything. It appears people dealt with this somewhat on the 350 though, so maybe it's an issue here too?

Any advice would be great. It's a 2009 model.

hfrog355 02-02-2014 04:42 PM

Fixed and didn't even need to order a part! Forgive my lack of technical terms but the collar on the wire casing which operates the door lock had come loose from the bracket so there was no tension when the handle was pulled. Simple fix and I'm good to go!
