T tops?

it looks great on the 300z but how would it work on the 370Z ? and would it be do able?

fullmonty 05-25-2010 06:04 AM

T-tops are awesome. I think they would look fine on a 370 and if offered I would of bought it with them. But putting them on aftermarket? I think would be close to impossible. Maybe with enough time and money it could be done, however I don't think to many people would be willing to spend as much as it would take.

Jeffblue 05-25-2010 06:28 AM

would probably cost you less to go buy a 300zx than it would to have T-Tops installed on the 370z

370zproject 05-25-2010 01:50 PM

thats it then gonna buy a 300 z... XD

How much you got? Cause I could give you T Tops with one of these in about 5 minutes for $150
http://www.anclotefire.com/prodimage..._16_49_k12.jpg

Or you could have a legit job done that would cost an exorbitant amount of money

This chop looks pretty good.

Jesse_Hunter 05-30-2010 11:41 PM

wow, thats pretty badass!

Jordo! 05-31-2010 12:09 AM

I'm guessing this woud result in serious structual failure...

Jesse_Hunter 05-31-2010 12:23 AM

eh, you'd still have the middle section connecting the two sides. I believe the risk of that would be minimal.

It just doesn't seem like it would be enough of a change to cause that.

But, I guess alot of that could depend on who does the body work too.

I wonder what the cost would be on a sunroof?

spearfish25 05-31-2010 07:35 AM

I'd even take a cutout targa style roof that maintains the lateral beams as structural supports. So you'd have an open top with a beam on each side running over the windows. Cover them in some CF and oh baby.

i would literally trade in my z tomorrow if nissan released a targa top 370z

lets make one.. anyone know a shop or photoshop a t top?

jpit 05-31-2010 02:08 PM

I have had a sunroof for over a year with virtually no problems. I watched them install it and the part of the roof they removed was all sheet metal with no support beams in it.
Cost $900.

Search under sunroof or moonroof and there are a few photos.

fullmonty 05-31-2010 08:03 PM

$900? Not bad at all! So its just a window correct, yours doesn't open, or yes?

LateralG'z 05-31-2010 09:03 PM

Damn, I like this idea a lot. Need to find a proper body shop that has considerable experience.

if i had the cash and knew it would work and look good.. hence a nice photoshop would be nice

BLUESLATE 06-01-2010 03:05 AM

How about cross-examine between a coupe and a roadster to see where the coupe lacks on chassis reinforcement? And then you can tackle the targa top project from there? I'm pretty sure there are some sort of extra reinforcement done for the roadster, and I'm sure it would work for the coupe.... unless they do not share the same chassis which is impossible. lol I bet Nissan didn't develop a separate chassis for the roadster.

BLUESLATE 06-01-2010 03:06 AM

And yes... that chop looks awesome!

Soon 06-01-2010 08:14 AM

anybody finds a reputable shop with experience converting coupes into targa's keep us informed
i will flat bed my car across the country for this
i had 2 1990 300zx and the t-tops were the one feature i enjoyed above all!!!

DarkPath 06-01-2010 08:52 AM

I'd bet it would over stress the B pillars or that the hatch would blow out entirely if the the 370 was Targa'd withouot significant structural rework of the roof... there would definitely have to be some sort of tie between the wind shield and the transverse area over the B pillars. So Sunroof or T tops are likely the only chop manageable on the 370...

yea throw a steel bar here and there..

FuszNissan 06-01-2010 11:32 AM

Targa would be sick! I am not sure how the car would hold up though

fullmonty 06-01-2010 12:40 PM

I was looking at the Z today and thinking about it, a targa top would be nice, but may to to difficult to do. TTops I think would work pretty well. The hardest part would be the sheet metal work, and the gaskets. You'd have to custom do a new headliner and maybe move the little antenna for the touring models, But all in all I think it would be totally possible for around $6k at the highest. I don't think it would cost more than that.
