Are you worried about your car getting stolen and parted out or something?

No, I just don't want to get a new bumper that will have someone else's vin that won't match the rest of the car.

It wouldnt have another VIN, it probably just wouldnt have anything.

Unless you found a used bumper.

That's what I was thinking. How are they going to sell a bumper (or any part for that matter) with a VIN attached as it doesn't go with any actual vehicle?

I don't want to speak for otacon, but I think he was planning on buying used and that was his concern.

That's exactly what I was implying, thanks ZWHIZ.

The vin number stickers placed on body panels at the factory are likely only there for purposes of matching parts to parts... Its common for companies to run a 'batch jobs' for expediency - as in bumpers, all painted with the same lot paint. Like bumpers painted on Monday would be earmarked for bodies painted and assembled on Monday from the same lot paint - but maybe interior parts are installed on Monday and the bumper may not be installed till Tuesday. What better way to identify disassembled parts meant for assembly than to mark them with a vin number?
