Nice job! :D that hole you see where you removed the black sticker... I was hoping I could use it, but was too big. :D hahahaha

ZPirate 05-06-2010 06:53 PM

Steve,

That's excellent! That sure is alot further in than I was expecting on the lower mount, but it makes the strut now almost perfectly parallel to the hood.

theDreamer 05-06-2010 06:53 PM

Nice work modshack, I will be skipping the drilling there as I am not doing that to the Password JDM stuff.
Will work this weekend on finding a solution.

Knives 05-06-2010 06:54 PM

Nicely done modshack.

kenchan 05-06-2010 07:04 PM

Need to check my scrap bin and make me a bracket like the modshack mod. :p

Anything to worry about hitting under the towers when you drilled?

No need to go to that trouble. The plates are only a buck:

9512K91 Ball Mounting Hardware Zinc-Plated-Steel, Flat Ball Bracket
$1.00

Or in stainless:
9512K11 Ball Mounting Hardware 304 Stainless Steel Flat Ball Bracket
$4.22

from McMaster-Carr

No issues with the drilling..

Modshack- Great work. Drilling really wasnt in the plan, didnt think Z owners would want to do this. thats why we went to the fender with the simple cut on the rub molding.

as with every aftermarket mod things can always be made better or different.

Looks good Steve! I can't wait to get mine on.

Too bad it wasn't engineered by Modshack from the start. :icon17:

Thats really not fair man. Atleast we are on the fourms trying to get feedback and help customers. Thats top priority with us, customers always comes first. Things like hood dampers can always be modified to fit differently. Have a good day

hahaha. so is that PW:JDM the battery cover surround piece? any linky? i might get a set too and drill it. :icon17: why not, right? if it's going to look good under the hoood, want the hood damper to prop it up.

Why are people buying from a non vendor?

is this wat you're talking about?

Password:JDM Dry Carbon Fiber Engine Compartment Covers (Z34 370Z) Version 1 | Password JDM

there's no access to the battery unless you undo the tabs? this would be perfect for the modshackmod hood damper setup cause the factory battery/brake cover probably hits the damper when you want to open it anyways.

only $299, just drill the damn thing! :icon17:

oh, and wtf is this パスワードin katakana? so japanese-style faux.

ahem... back to the hood dampers. :D

kenchan 05-07-2010 12:02 PM

modshack- did you revert back to the original bracket orientation for the hood side? (right is now left on the label and left is now right on the label)?

Yeah I did....The different angularity, while opening the hood more, put undo stress on the hood. The sharper (original) angle seems to work better, though the hood is about 1.5" from opening all the way (prop rod). Seemed a reasonable trade-off..

I just call them like I see them. At least Modshack was able to make your kit work properly. And since one of the two kits Modshack purchased from you is mine that makes me happy. :tiphat:

Ryan can you make some for cf hoods?! Would it just be shocks with a lower compression rate?

ahh, thanks. yes 1.5" is about how my current setup is at so it's okay.

well, people like me dont worry. we just do it. you go as far as you can go and if you get stuck you look around for solutions. if all fails, you revert back to where you started. :icon17:

Well yeah all fine and dandy but you would be left with a drilled and cut engine bay :roflpuke2:

waaaasabi 05-07-2010 02:16 PM

Alright here's the install/review for the CF rear dampeners!

http://i920.photobucket.com/albums/a...52795183_0.jpg
Packaging. The instructions were... uhhhh. Yeah, not really instructive, but honestly, it's a dampeners swap, not an engine drop.

http://i920.photobucket.com/albums/a...52796001_0.jpg
Stock dampener. The bottom joint seemed to fit just fine so I didn't want to mess with the brackets and whatnot.

Be careful removing the stock dampeners; they're a real bitch the first time around.
http://i920.photobucket.com/albums/a...52815099_0.jpg
(The picture is after I cleaned it all up; it wouldn't stop bleeding for the longest)

I was able to put on the bottom joint and slip on the locking mechanism, but the top CF cup joint wouldn't lock into the stock ball joint. So I took off the stock ball (a bitch, as well), but the supplied ball joint didn't fit :(

http://i920.photobucket.com/albums/a...52792685_0.jpg
As you can see there's a major size difference between the screws of the ball joints.

So right now I'm kinda stuck. I tried perhaps using the supplied bracket and screwing it down with the stock joint screw, but I couldn't position the bracket in any way that would fit. I think Ryan may have sent me a front set by accident, but in any case I have to write a paper for Monday, so I can't mess around with the dampener till next week.

Modding is not for wimps!

Websters says: To make basic or fundamental changes, often to give a new orientation to, or to serve a new end. The making of a limited change in something.

Playing with new parts often requires thinking along these lines....
