In the beginning I didn't know it locked with the car either. Usually these doors just push to open on other cars. And the first time I opened the lid to put in gas, I didnt have to push the unlock button. When I went home I checked to see if I locked the gas cap tight enough, but it wouldn't open. So I thought maybe something got stuck and I push a little harder than usual and the locking mechanism broke. It works just fine though and it doesnt open on its own or anything like that. I know there are other people on here who has had that happen.

Your dealer failed you if they did not point this out to you. Kinda important and a good thing to know. My dealer did not point it out either, but thankfully the Infiniti dealer did when we bought our first G35 in 2004.

I have been paranoid of people tampering with my gas tank since I brought my H2 home from the dealership and a friend walked up, opened the gas cap and said, "I bet a Twix would drop right in there." I have had locking caps/doors ever since.

Wait

What is up with people.

if it doesn't open I wouldn't be like "I shall push the damn thing DEEPER which will make it go open."

Reminds me of the topic where people were all "lol didn't know how to open the fuel cap door"

I don't know why but I knew these things without even reading the manual. Probably because I never had a car with a button to open it in the car.:roflpuke2:

I test drove my Nismo with a friend and the dealer gave us a gas voucher since the car was on E. I got to the gas station and looked around for a few seconds for the release switch in the cabin. I nearly had to call the dealer to ask how to put gas in, but then I just tried pushing on it and it popped open. All in all this took place over the period of about 45 seconds though...

All the cars I've ever driven. Non Nissan cars either had a latch in the car for the lid or either a push pull mechanism. And since I opened it earlier with no problems it brought me to believe that it was a push type or mechanism.

The only problem I have with mine is that the tiny little pin falls out everytime I open the gas door. I just have to put the pin back in before closing door.

In regards to the dealer not showing certain aspects of the car to the customer. I'm no car expert, But I felt like I knew more about the Z than any dealer I spoke to. I spent 10 minutes convincing one that the 350 Didn't have a back seat, I gave up when he said "mmmmm.....I think they maaaaay have............"

OMY I can't open my gas door without breaking it LMAO

Maybe the ppl breaking their gas doors should buy a 1990's car cuz u don't have to do anything but pull it open....duh duh duh

I won't lie I broke the lock mechanism on mine as well because I didn't know it locked with the car, I like someone else mentioned thought it was just stuck so I pushed a little harder and POP there went the locking mech

dalparadise 05-01-2010 04:09 PM

I haven't had any issues with the operation of my gas door, but my question is, why lock it at all if it's so easy to break open?

I've come the conclusion either I did, or the dealer did the first day he filled it up. Really not a big deal to me if my gas lid locks. Not worried about someone stealing my gas or putting sugar in my tank.
