ProClip 370Z Mount + Droid Holster review

4 Attachment(s)
Like many of you, I was very tired of keeping my phone in my cup holder. Having experience with ProClip mounts, I decided to give their 370Z unit a try. I ordered the passenger side knee pad mount ($29.99) and the Holster with Tilt Swivel & Car Mount Magnet ($34.99) for my Droid.

As with the ProClip mount I used in my last car, I decided not to peel the covers off the 3M adhesive tape so that I could remove it whenever necessary. Don't worry, the mount clips in there very solidly and WILL NOT move around! No tape needed.

Here are the pics:

Don't worry about it being a problem for your passengers... there's still plenty of leg room for them with the mount installed.

Worth the money? Definitely. Solid piece and it's MUCH better having the phone in a fixed position freeing up the cup holder.

My apologies for the dirty interior -- I will be taking care of that during my spring detail. :)

Yep, I posted my review of the same mount but using the iPhone adapter. What a great addition it's been! My HU is also in dire need of swapping for a Kenwood 9960.

Oops, I totally missed that. Didn't know you did a review of this one already. :shakes head:

GPS signal pick up fine in that location?

Yup.

CBRich 03-15-2010 09:13 PM

In that case I have an order to make.

spearfish25 03-15-2010 09:47 PM

Yeah Rich, works great in that spot. You won't regret the purchase.

m4a1mustang 03-15-2010 09:47 PM

It's so nice having the phone solidly mounted in on place. The only downside is that I'm on Facebook at every damn red light now.

Cubby mounting

6 Attachment(s)
To give you some ideas for mounting accessories in the cubby, here's what I did for my GPS:

I formed a block of florist's foam to take up the space in the back of the 370's cubby, strung the power cord out the back, and cut and painted a piece of foam core board as trim. The florist foam is snug fit to the cubby cavity and the GPS attaches to the foam with velcro. This allows me to switch the GPS between cars. I tapped the passenger 12VDC socket with a 12VDC extension from which I cut the plug end. The GPS power cord is plugged and taped to the extension socket (so that it can't back out). The extension and GPS power cord is then crammed up under the dash.

wish cobb would come out with a mount for the AP. Althougt I bet you could probably rig it up on this mount too.

Nice, but I could never tolerate driving around with that cubby door open every time I use the GPS.

Agreed. For me, GPS works better when it's in my line of sight, so I use a window suction mount whenever I need it.

I thought line of sight might be a problem, but it didn't turn out to be for me. It might be however, for someone taller than average. The cubby door open may be perceived as a safety issue though. The best part of about mounting in the cubby is that the GPS is out of sight when not in use or parked and there are no telltale suction cup marks on the windshield. I have my radar detector mounted on the mirror stem like a lot of others on this forum. It's a PITA to remove it every time I'm parked somewhere. Wish I could find a better solution for it.

The best solution for mounting a radar detector I ever came up with was on a 1999 Accord. Found a really small thin detector at Radio Shack that I mounted inside the headliner behind the windshield. I installed and wired an OEM fog light switch to the detector so I could turn it off if I got pulled over. There's nothing worse than a squealing radar detector when a cop is asking you for your driver's license (especially if detectors are verboten where you happen to get pulled over)! The radar detector was not especially good, lots of falsing and no laser, but I kept me from ever getting a ticket in that car and I never had to worry about it being visible.

I made up a slick, simple mount for mine which positions it perfectly. Personally, driving with the cubby door open is a huge distraction. I don't use the GPS much so this works for me..
I also have a cradle that snaps into the same mount to hold an iPhone, or iPod. Someone just asked me to make them one after seeing this..

@modshack

I prefer that mount high up like how you have it, however I would like to be able to use the center cubby while driving. Looks like your mount is secured by closing the cubby door?

Nice one, modshack. I like the simplicity.

Modshack - Could you post pictures and details of the mount to hold an iPhone. I would like to see if I can put one together for iphone4. Thanks in advance.

Well.....since that was shown I've designed a flip out holder. Pivots out from the cubby and will hold Nav or Phone set-ups.

Her it is with my Droid Incredible in an iPhone 3 holder:

Modshack - It looks awesome. What type of ball and socket holder are you using? Where can I buy one? How do you make the ball and socket holder join the phone cradle? I see from the pics that you don't have wires running to get power. Thanks so much for posting these pics.

hmm, i would love to see a mount mod for the dell streak, only problem is that the streak is sooo big, i think its pretty hard to fit in the center compartment.

I just ordered the ProClip Angled Mount & Adjustable Holder with Tilt Swivel. About $70 to ship via USPS to HI. Not bad. I am keeping my Iphone 4S in a morphie juice pack. I hope it holds it snug. Thanks to the OP for this info. I hated keeping my phone in my cup holder.

I've had a ProClips for years. IMO, it's by far the best way to keep you phone mounted and handy. I love the location for the 370 mount. Being right next to the HU, I can plug my iPhone right into the USB plug to charge it and listen to music.

I really like the Proclip as well but a piece of the bottom clip broke off either when I was taking it off or putting it on... same with the one that I bought my mom for her Beemer... same location.
I'm going to contact them soon.

I have been looking as well for a good system. I have used Steelie's magnet (no issues with reception), but darn thing would not stick to the dash board. I looked and thought about ordering Proclip..until I saw what Modshack did (thank you for the idea).

3M taped Steelie magnetic ball onto old iphone plastic clip. Used heat gun to bend the plastic to fit. I'm going to test this system to see if it will hold. Probably not going to hang the iPad like that, but looks like phone is not an issue. If this doesn't work, probably order Proclip. Thanks guys for another good find!

Anyone use the ProClip Mount for a Samsung S4? I was looking at this one online, I have a Spigen SlimArmor case.

I just got my ProClip and have a question about how your bottom clip attaches. Mine doesn't fully wrap around the bottom edge of the center console. Instead the ProClip bracket goes about half way around the bottom edge and the U shaped attachment isn't wide enough to fully go around the bottom of the console. It is secure, but I am worried the sharp edge of the ProClip bracket will eventually wear a hole in the center console material. Is this how it is supposed to fit?

ProClip Holder + Custom Mount

I was inspired by this thread and thought I'd share my recent project. I liked the ProClip holder but didn't much care for the mounts as they look a bit kluged together in my opinion. I decided to make a custom one and started playing with some fiberglass. Here's the result.

anyone know of anything like this? I really don't want a windshield mount of navigation, and these other clips are too low.

Try this one. I used it in my 370 a little bit. It's very sturdy and it sits at the right location without having to look down if you're using the gps. It may look like it's blocking the cubby door, but it's not, I can still use the cubby door while my iphone is mounted on the clip.

I figure pairing either of the proclip iOauto (standard or pro) magnet attachment with this base would be the best of all possible worlds.

If 370_o decides to do a run of them, count me first in line.
