Existing Fog Lamp Wires!
(I hope that this is not in the wrong section...)
So I looked under my rear bumper, and what do you know, there is already a wire for the Fog Lamp! But where does it go?! It just goes inside the car, somewhere! I think the wire only exists for the 2010 models. Does anyone know about this? |
|
Is it connected to the fog light replacement?
Or is it maybe a wire for your trunk lock or license plate light? |
It is a wire that is clearly meant for the Fog Light, but I don't know where it goes. I mean, it MUST be connected to something, somewhere!
The Fog Light DIY does not mention this cable. |
Maybe there is also a switch connection in your mid console?

I'll look in the morning and take pics if I see it... :pics:

Unless, you have a Canadian, European, or Asian market 370Z the fog light is connected to nothing, zip, nada. If you live in the one of the markets above then on your turn signal stalk is another rotating bezel that turns the fog light on and off. The one shown below is for a righthand drive 370Z.
DIY of complete FOG LAMP install (different than the thread I posted above) |
It runs to a orange wire in the passenger side kick panel you can plug the fog lamp into the plug under the rear bumper and tap into the wire in front and add a switch and your good to go:tiphat:

So anyone got any more info on this?

I bought my car pre-owned and the prior owner had turned the fog light into another brake light. Im not sure if i like it or not but most likely I'll replace it with the smoked lense.

:iagree:
you have to remove the kick plate to get to the kick panel. I can take some pics of the wire later if needed. |

I just looked under and there is a wire harness mounted next to the fog light and it runs into my trunk. There I do not know where it leads too... Anyone care to do a DIY on the 2010 coupe & roadster?? :excited:

(pull off the entire panel by removing that nut and snapping the panel out.) http://images47.fotki.com/v1478/phot...MG_1675-vi.jpg http://images52.fotki.com/v738/photo...MG_1674-vi.jpg |
:bump:
I too am trying to make use of this existing wire. Modshack's pic shows the driver's side fuse panel (which a great shot of how to install an add-a-circuit!) but not the harness from the rear fog light. Does the existing fog light harness end in the corresponding spot on the passenger side? Using an existing (currently useless) wiring harness will save me lots of time and energy in wiring up my rear fog light. Edit: Weird, but I found the answer to my question under a search for "heated seat switch" (thanks to wstar for his post here http://www.the370z.com/exterior-inte...t-install.html). The rear harness apparently hooks up to the BCM behind the kick cover in the p-side footwell, pin #24)! |

I'm starting to think it will just be easier to run new wires through the armrest to the trunk...

...although, the idea of hooking up a switch of some kind to the BCM and existing wire to the light so that the dash light goes on when the fog is on....oooooh!
Seriously, I think I will likely install a 3rd heated seat switch, wire "low" to fog on continuously, wire "high" to the flash function of the EVO-R light. |
