First thing I would try is: disassemble the fob, removing the battery and the soft rubber button pad from the case. Spray the electronics with copious amounts of contact cleaner.

First thing I would try is: disassemble the fob, removing the battery and the soft rubber button pad from the case. Spray the electronics with copious amounts of contact cleaner. Check for any corrosion on the battery contacts and other parts of the electronics - clean as needed. Clean the plastic case halves and the button pad with appropriate cleaner (water and mild soap will work). Let everything dry. Clean the battery with a dry paper towel. Reassemble and test.
