Fly1 SS Lip Kit install price

So I just have a quick question for you guys. I recently bought the Fly1 SS Lip Kit for my Z. I got a quote for the install and paint match, but I’m thinking it’s way too high and wanted everyone’s opinion.

They quoted me at $3,340 to install and paint match it. They claimed they’d have to “mold” it so it’ll fit properly on the car and that’s why it’s cost so much. Would this be true at all or are they basically full of it and trying to get as much money out of me as they can?

Also what are some rough estimates you guys think would be average? I figured it’d be $2,500 max to get it done.

Fly1's fitment is inconsistent at best - if the fitment is off on your pieces, they will need to hack and glue **** back together to make it fit

Get more estimates around your area and compare.

They are assuming you want to mold it to your bumper. Maybe you don't. Most people don't. If you ever want to change to another style lip or sell your lip, then you probably do not want to mold it.

Maybe this link will help. DIY it.

Not expensive to paint and definitely no reason to mold it in. In fact, you don't want that because it'll just crack and break. My first lip was of the same style and cost 200 to paint and installed myself.

Even with molding it, that's high. Every lip I've ever had cost $150-$300 to paint and I just installed it myself.

So I’m assuming molding makes it a better and cleaner fit but more expensive and literally makes it a part of the bumpers? If cracked later then I’d need to essentially replace the entire bumper? Whereas as if I had it installed with a few nuts/bolts and 3M tape, it’d still be attached perfectly fine and would stay on but is cheaper? And if it cracked later I could simply remove the kit from the bumpers? I’m just trying to make sure I understand it correctly.

I’m going to the shop this weekend to talk to them so they can explain why it’s cost so much and to see if the kit just so happens to be way off on fitment which is causing them to have to mold so much and charge so much.

The lip was designed to be secured with vhb tape, some bolts, and screws. It allows flex. The lip is so low it'll hit curbs, steep driveways, speed bumps, etc. If molded, a good shop will have to fuse or secure the lip to the bumper so it does not flex, move, or break at the joints/where the edge of the lip meets the bumper. They'll bondo to make it seamless and it'll look great. What this does is transfer the stress point to other parts of the bumper's mounting holes when it hits something. If the lip isn't properly secured to the bumper, it'll flex and crack at the joints. Can't speak to Fly1 's fitment.

Mine is a ss lip from fly1. fitting was pretty good but needed bodywork. they added some material to make it sit perfectly flush. they mounted bracket under the car to support the lip. it costed 500$ canadian dollors which must be approx 350$ USD.

That is way too much, to paint maybe 300 to 400 max. To mold it in maybe 1K to 1500 max. i had spats molded in to rear bumper and it was 1k
