$4k+ Airbag Fix?

I had the dealer quote me over $6K worth of repairs for airbag and module replacement - it was essentially the entire system. This was at 80K miles on a 2011 model about two years ago.

I spoke with Nissan corporate and explained that my non-Nissan warranty would not cover the repairs and that I had great concerns about driving the car if the airbag system could just fail like that. They covered the entire cost of the repair. I was surprised considering I try my best to avoid using the dealer for service.

I would call Nissan North America and express your concerns over the car's safety. Even though the car is older, at 53K miles there is no reason for the system to fail. Your hurdle is how much you have revealed to the dealer. If they know the problem is likely caused by you leaving your windows down in the rain, they may have no interest in helping you. If you haven't told them, don't. And you might want to delete this thread, too...
