I want to do this but I don't have more button space in the middle of the seats!

nis350 09-05-2018 10:22 PM

can the trunk be opened when the motor is running?

For mine, the switch doesn't work unless the car is switched on.

You are doing great work, but sorry, I do not see the point of this mod. One still has to walk to the hatch and lift it. What difference does it make if you press a button inside or outside?

I am not trying to be negative or diminish your work in any way. Just trying to understand.

Maybe if I was explained what the advantage was, I would do it it.

Pulled up my messy cup holder for pics. There’s a lot going on under theee for all the factory style switches I added to the car. On the release switch, the light gray goes to the BCM. Blacks go to ground. The light green wire goes to the red wire that I cut off of the connector on the second picture. That is what lights up the switch when my lights are on. Maybe this will help clarify it.

I'm with ct on this one. You still need to get back there to open the hatch. Friend of mine tried to open/close the hatch from the spoiler and I said ah ah. "It is only I who can touch her there".

Even so --- I still repped when rep is due.

Keep a long pole to push open the hatch from the inside. Assuming you can't just accelerate to close the hatch (like you can with the passenger door), tie a string to the hatch so you can pull it closed from the inside as well :twocents:

Same here, everyone I know initially doesn't know where the external trunk release is situated so its easier for me to use an interior switch and saves me getting out of the car to open it for them.

2018+ Z's come with the switch anyway...

To conclude this thread today I ran the last wire to the BCM so everything works. It is indeed on the passenger side on a RHD - REP given to mlsully & DeleriousClam.:bowrofl:

I can now open the trunk whether the ignition is on or off.:driving:

I have a 2019 model. The trunk can only be opened if the doors are unlocked. Haven't tried opening the hatch while driving though haha, but since the doors autolock when you're up to speed, it will be disabled.

Trunk switch also works without turning the car on.

I’d like to do this mod too

DragonSlave02 04-08-2019 04:25 PM

So I like this mod for a few reasons but to answer the question of when it can be used click list pickup I don’t know how many times my wife has bought stuff and said go pick it up I have already paid for it, aka I can’t say i forgot to pick it up or I will get it another day, but try tell some dumb Kroger employe how to use the thing it just doesn’t work (no offense to any Kroger employees on here). And also it can be released when the car is running.

Did you get the switch to illuminate?

Yes, it turns on via the headlight switch along with the other cabin lighting.

Question for those that have installed the trunk release using an OEM switch: the switch and pigtail I received has four wires coming from it (black, black/grey, blue, purple). Since mlsully said that it's a negative pulse switch, I'm assuming I'll be using the two black wires to complete the circuit (please correct me if I'm wrong). If that's the case, which of the remaining blue and purple wires would be used for illumination and what is the extra wire used for, if anything? My pigtail came from a Nissan Murano, if that matters.

I’m giving this install a try this weekend on my ‘13.

- do the blue and purple wires from your harness tap into the same blue and purple wires at the bcm?

- did you split into the wires at the bcm and run under the carpets to the center console? Or did you find a way to identify the wires to splice closer to the actual switch?

bmstitt 06-28-2019 01:21 PM

Any thoughts?

You only connect one wire to the gray wire in the BCM. The other wire goes to ground. For the illumination pair of wires, use a test light to see which wire goes positive from one the harness plugs under the cup holder that's normally used for the heated seats. Connect the positive wire there and the other to ground.

Following up on this

I purchased the interior trunk release switch from Z1
https://www.z1motorsports.com/switch...h-p-13339.html

It's part #25380-JF00A

Unfortunately, it does not come with the plug, or harness that actually is needed to splice the necessary wiring to it to make it work.

I looked on various parts databases and couldn't find anything resembling the necessary wiring harness

How have others who wired this up done it?
