Not really. I mean I put a very small bead around it.

I hammered out some rain shields for my Trackspec hood vents. Have them so that water drains in front of the motor.
If other people want them. I'll make them for a price. Aluminum not cheap. |
Yay! Trackspec!
I think i'd like a pair for the sides. I'll PM.

The vents WORK! 85F sitting in traffic. Oil and engine temps stayed put. Running 85 mph for hours on end, down to ZDayZ and back. Oil temps never got 170F, and engine temps at 185F.

How much of a temperature drop do you think that is? 10f?

Been sitting on these for a while and finally got to doing them. I couldn’t bring myself to cut the hood so I took it off and let the body shop do it. They commented that the large middle vent wasn’t quite formed to the contour of the hood (too flat) so they took it upon themselves to form it better (a little coercing down the middle). I also picked up a set of Rusty’s rain guards but haven’t installed those yet. Also, the heat extraction is for real!! More pics in my build thread (link in sig).

I may need a set of these. I wanted to wait until after my TT upgrade is completed to check the temps out in stop and go traffic. I didn't want to put the vents in if I didn't need to. I am not crazy about hacking up my hood.

My garage is already full, so my Z sits outside (and daily driven), but I haven't really been too concerned about it. I went over the connectors with dielectric grease, even though they were weather tight connectors. Some of the exposed bolts I removed and added some "water proof" grease as anti seize. Over all the only problem I've noticed is the longer rivets were not entirely stainless, the center was regular mild steel and rusted. Ive since filled the center of the rivets with silicone to seal them, but unfortunately it caused some rust discoloration around a couple rivets. |

The Track Spec Motorsport hood vents are a proven modification that works and I give them a lot of credit for coming out with them and manufacturing them for our vehicles. Engine water and oil temperatures will drop about 10F-15F while street driving and at least 15F-20F on the track. You will feel the heat pouring out of them when you are at stop. Thank you Rusty for helping the Z community with the water/rain shields rep for you. :tiphat: Even with the water/rain shields installed you will see an improvement on the street or track. Also the current market price on sheet aluminum is not cheap.

Thought that was your hood for a minute or so. Then I seen the leather motorcycle jacket hanging up, and the target on the garage door. :rofl2:

Nope I'm going to leave the Naca ducts, besides I almost never drive the thing. Too many vehicles not enough time or butts  |

Do you guys think just installing the side vents on a non FI car will lower temps 10-15 as well or do you need the middle too? I just wanna cool down the car more during auto x and hpde events.
Thanks in advance. :) |
Anything is better than nothing. My uneducated guess is the middle vent is responsible for more than half the temp reduction.
IIRC the middle vent is larger than the two side vents. The location is another variable, although I'm not sure of the dynamics of the airflow in the engine bay and it would be irresponsible for me to speculate as to whether the middle vent dissipates heat significantly more than the side vents or not. |
The middle vent dissipates the most heat as it is strategically placed to remove the most heat from the engine bay itself. The side vents are place in low pressure areas to remove additional heat and move air out of the engine bay decreasing drag and lift. The kit was engineered to optimize heat reduction and maximizing downforce or drag caused by the enclosed engine bay. Most of us have experienced between a temperature drop of 10 and 15* with all three vents!

Small world. Come to find out, the company that's powder coating my new wheels (Specialized Coatings) does the powder coating for the Trackspec vents. Just saying. :rofl2:

I think im going to pick these up!
|
Bringing this back to the top due to Folks in the west having a heat wave. I have gotten a couple of heat related questions.
|
I have had no issues when I was daily driving with these in the hot summer heat. Get stuck in a traffic accident on the Interstate for an hour, Not a problem.
With a turbo car, these are mandatory in my book. Sitting in traffic watching the temp gauge rise is no fun at all. |
Time for trackspec for me - yay, or just stay out of the 115 degree stop and go traffic.
i've driven in 100-105* without any problem.s My temps will stay around 210-220* both oil/water. I decided to run to the mall and pick up my new glasses about a 25 mile drive for me. The temps were 94 at my home, by the time i got into town it was 115. Stopped the car ran inside for about 15 minutes, left, then on way home had to get gas and pick up dinner 5-10 minute stops for each within 10 minutes apart. Those two additional stops put my car over 230 for my water temps. Oil was fine staying below 220. Car was fine as long as I was driving but just sitting after driving without anything circulating made my temps spike while it sat. By the time i got home i was back at 208. I've put it off really because i like how my hood looks nice and polished, time to stop being a baby and cut it. |
