Tach Trim
Fear I know the answer but it seems like the whole cluster has to be removed to get the factory trim piece off the tach hey?
I'd like to wrap that piece but not interested in making a big project out of it. Does anyone make a cover that basically just slips off without having to remove the whole thing? I've seen the CF ones (Evo-R I believe it was) that cover the whole top cover but I'm interested in just the tach trim. ABS, painted or CF is fine as I can refinish it anyways. Rather not spend the premium for CF if it can be helped. I'm sure I've seen something like this but my goggle-fu is failing me on this one. Thanks! http://www.the370z.com/members/chase...4-img-3165.jpg |
EVO-R has that trim piece (not sure if sold separate) and Carbon Fiber element can do anything.

Found that one too, sounds like the complete kit though for like $599
Ah ha we have a winner: RHD Japan $109 RHDJapan : CURIOUS Carbon Fiber Meter Ring - Fairlady Z Z34 http://i59.tinypic.com/2rnigxj.jpg |
Not adverse to something other than carbon fibre if anyone has any insight

I am in no rush whatsoever for cosmetic stuff. Just planning the nice-to-haves for when I'm done with my performance upgrades for the summer.
|
Ok. Let me know when you want to pull the trigger. I am in no rush either.
|
Sounds good.

I'm thinking I might wrap my new hood in CF. always wanted to give wrap a try and seems like good a place as any to cut my teeth. I found a pick of MB with CF hood and quite like it - which is somewhat atypical for me. I don't want to overdo it on cRbon fibre but it is growing on me.

Carbon Fiber Element said no. Not sure if they meant no - they don't make them, or - no they will not sell the one piece.
|
I suppose it doesn't matter either way what the no means. It simply means they don't want our money that's all :p
|
That's what I figured as well.

The reason that I ask is that a real CF wrap would weigh a crap load. Not to mention being expensive. |

Just some input from a guy that has done a bunch of carbon fiber.
Got to be careful when adding carbon. You can start by doing "trim/accent" pieces. You do too much then the car(especially the interior)looks not done unless you finish the project. I max'd out with carbon on the z33.The interior is a combo of molded pieces, a CF dash kit and custom CF. The exterior full bore with front lip, side skirts, rear diffuser and and bunch of other stuff. It looks design balanced. Almost like it came that way from the factory. Many ask if my z33 is the NEW z... Super cost though. Went with accents on my z34. I like how both cars came out. That's what counts |
That is VERY good advice, and e ermine should heed it
The tach cover is the only interior piece I was considering, especially if I wrap my hood. If I don't do the latter I may consider the door handle indent pieces in CF as well then. Looking st the car again today the satin black hood is rather growing in me so not sure which way I'll end up going. Once the car is out in the street and can appreciate it from a better perspective I'll start deciding some of those things. |
I have the door handle indent pieces and considering the tach cover. Those will be the only CF pieces inside.

look though. Following up on my previous post,to be sure, care must be taken if you want accents or a total carbon look. With any design project(it's what I do),get a total plan in mind on how you want your car to end up looking like. With my z33,I envisioned a Euro-supercar look.Took influence from McClaren,Paganni etc. Careful use of carbon(best quality) can upgrade the looks of a used Z or, make a newer Z look far more expensive. |
EVOR does not make it anymore. Carbon Signal does sell it separately. Waiting on price.
I would say RHD Japan is our best choice. |
This is what CS one looks like from the top. Not sure if I am feeling the exposed parts.
http://www.the370z.com/members/gurne...-installed.jpg I think this is the RHD. http://www.evo-r.net/product/370Z/JDM/p1uu.jpg |
Wow that is incredibly poor fit. I wouldn't want that either so CA is out regardless. I'll see about finding some images of the RHD one installed.
This is the description on their website. Like we talked about I'm not sure if that truly means this is a complete swap out for the PEM piece or not. Could be a language thing in translation. Quote:

I think this is RHD as well.

I have the Curious Models one from RHDJapan. Decent fit, good quality, and you'll get some Japanese instructions too lol. Apologies for the poor nighttime shots

Thanks for posting that. Helps a lot.
Just to confirm that's a cover that goes over top of the existing one, not a complete replacement piece for it right? Did the cluster have to come out to put it on? I'm assuming it just sticks overtop and uses two sided tape but figured I better ask to be sure. Looks great! |
I like that one man! looks like they come from factory

Yes it's a cover, attached with double sided tape. Goes right on. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
