Paddle shifters

I've only driven by automatic mode, but today suddenly wanted to try the semi manual and paddle shifters.

But I did not know how to do, so just changed gears randomly then the engine worked weird.

I tried it several times on slow speed but failed to find out how to use it.

1. Is it dangerous to use the paddle shifters? Now I'm using my second new AT transmission (the first one was broken but no one knows exactly why) and do not want it broken again.

2. Once I saw someone used the shifter and got faster acceleration. Can anyone explain to me how to do that? I tried searching Youtube but it was not helpful.

:)

i only use manual mode on my 7AT Z

the paddles and stick shift at the same speed theres no difference.

also you really shouldnt "randomly" go through gears. i mean it only going in order up and down so cant really skip around.

So is it dangerous that it might break my transmission?

nah. theres many safetys and failsafes in place. the only real way to break that tranny is by adding a lot of power with boost.

with that being said there is always a chance that something off the wall or rare happens so dont quote what i said above as fact that you cant harm a stock tranny on stock power lol seen a few stock blocks go boom so anything is possible but unlikely.

RTFM. If you didn't get an Owner's Manual with your Z, you can download one from this site or Nissan's web site.

Exactly the same as using the stick. You don't actually have control of the transmission - the stick and paddles are just switches that tell the TCM that you want to change gear.

I have the manual and know how to use it basically.

I just don't know how to use it for faster acceleration or other practical functions ..

I'll check whether the manual explains about it.

The car doesn't accelerate faster if you use the paddles. The gears are the same. If you put it in manual mode it will hold the gear until you up shift, which may leave you in the powerband longer.

Once on passenger side I saw someone used the shifter and drove my Z seemed to accelerate faster than usual. ;)

It always feels faster in the passenger seat.

Driving with an auto in manual mode is no different than driving with a stick other than a couple of things.

The auto will upshift when ever you tell it too but will only down shift when it is safe, it will not let you over rev the engine. Also it will hold the gear your in and will not upshift, it will bounce off the rev limiter or fuel cut off and not upshift so you can't hurt the engine. It will not let you down shift if it will over rev the engine and also has rev match built in and will blip the engine when you down shift.

As far as making the car accelerate faster it's because it doesn't upshift to soon and you control the shift timing. There is a delay when the shift happens after you shift and this can be reduced with a throttle body upgrade. When you control the shift time you can control the RPM your engine is running at and keep it in it's power band for better acceleration.

Just practice a little with it and you will be fine and don't worry about hurting it as there are plenty of safety controls built in.

I have a 2006 G35 that I take to the track and always you my paddles to shift. Here is a link to a video and you can listen to my shifting.

Hope this helps

im just messing with ya. i have a 04 G35C 6MT and how she sounds melodic with her factory exhaust note with the breathing MT shifts is just da way i like my G. plus the throttle is extremely responsive unlike the 370Z, so kind of a waste getting an AT if you know how to heel and toe.. since i dont think the AT G's had rev matching..
