Paddle shifters
I've only driven by automatic mode, but today suddenly wanted to try the semi manual and paddle shifters.
But I did not know how to do, so just changed gears randomly then the engine worked weird. I tried it several times on slow speed but failed to find out how to use it. 1. Is it dangerous to use the paddle shifters? Now I'm using my second new AT transmission (the first one was broken but no one knows exactly why) and do not want it broken again. 2. Once I saw someone used the shifter and got faster acceleration. Can anyone explain to me how to do that? I tried searching Youtube but it was not helpful. :) Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk |

i only use manual mode on my 7AT Z the paddles and stick shift at the same speed theres no difference. also you really shouldnt "randomly" go through gears. i mean it only going in order up and down so cant really skip around. |

The car doesn't accelerate faster if you use the paddles. The gears are the same. If you put it in manual mode it will hold the gear until you up shift, which may leave you in the powerband longer.

Driving with an auto in manual mode is no different than driving with a stick other than a couple of things.
The auto will upshift when ever you tell it too but will only down shift when it is safe, it will not let you over rev the engine. Also it will hold the gear your in and will not upshift, it will bounce off the rev limiter or fuel cut off and not upshift so you can't hurt the engine. It will not let you down shift if it will over rev the engine and also has rev match built in and will blip the engine when you down shift. As far as making the car accelerate faster it's because it doesn't upshift to soon and you control the shift timing. There is a delay when the shift happens after you shift and this can be reduced with a throttle body upgrade. When you control the shift time you can control the RPM your engine is running at and keep it in it's power band for better acceleration. Just practice a little with it and you will be fine and don't worry about hurting it as there are plenty of safety controls built in. I have a 2006 G35 that I take to the track and always you my paddles to shift. don't take this the wrong way, but how do you mess up using the paddle shifters? the left paddle is to downshift, while the right paddle is to upshift. you go in order (i.e. 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 or 7-6-5-4-3-2-1). same thing with the shifter: up motion is to upshift and down motion is to downshift. |

From a standstill. Move ur shift knob down to drive, then to the left to activate paddle mode, change your gear to "1," press gas pedal to the floor, once your rpm is about to redline, use your RIGHT HAND to press the up shift paddle. Ta daaaaaaa

I have the 2015 Sport Tech automatic.
In manual mode, the transmission WILL shift up and down automatically at its limits. This can be really annoying because it may shift right before I shift so I get a double shift! And it feels as if the gears change harder/not as smooth than regular automatic. But its great to use for downshifting to keep the revs up going into a curve or about to accelerate up hill. Soon I will try and use it in autocross where a constant 2nd gear is preferred. Right now the car is TERRIBLE in automatic doing autocross! It lags constantly!! But for straight ahead acceleration, I just leave it in auto, its does better than me :) So, lots of practice would be necessary, and I'm sure your gas mileage will go way down too. Remember, you are not supposed to coast in neutral with an automatic (it will overheat?). |
sucks to hear it auto shifts up at redline. a sports car needs to bounce off the rev limiter at wot.. hell even my old honda fit my wife used bounced off the rev limiter.. :ugh:
