Just another shine amuse rep kit thread

(Supposed to be THREAD not THREAT LOL, I cant seem to change the title)
Hi 370z forum,
Rather a new member to this particular forum here and have spent numerous time browsing this forum, can definitely see who the most active members are.
Second kit I've purchased from Shine Auto (previous was 350z) and wanted to just give credit where good credit is due.
Just got the kit today and everything was packed perfectly well and arrived rather quick considering I live in Oahu. Ken from Shine Auto was really helpful and responded to my emails rather quick. Estimates were accurate and he kept me updated during the entire transaction from the time of inquiry to purchase to delivery. Not sure why some people always have a hard time getting in touch with them.
Interestingly, I don't have my 370z yet and just grabbing all the part I need so once I get the car I can put it all together.
Pics are always helpful so ive added more pics for future customers and enthusiast to have a better idea. I am aware there is already the post that CoolToy user put together which was of great help.
Enjoy the pics. Diffuser is not from Shine but rather from Fujimura.
Amuse rep front, amuse rep skirts, and NOT the amuse rep rear but rather the spats attachments (not sure who the original producer is).

For those of you interested in grill mounting options with the Powerhouse amuse.

1. Order grill. I got it from customcargrill.com in diamond mesh with black powder coat. Please dont go on telling me about painting, its not the same as powder coat, trust me, especially with wheels.

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...smh99oglr.jpeg
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...s0aucuuwv.jpeg

2. Make your template and cut it out.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...sbmdhsp1j.jpeg
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...sal8uxnss.jpeg

3. Test fit and mount. I forgot what they call these types of nut but they work perfect for the top part of the bumper. There is a nice lip all around to mount the grill quite easily. Make sure to use stainless steel so nothing rusts. My local hardware store had such a small limited stainless steel bolts and screw selection is was so sad.

Daniel123588 03-07-2016 11:44 PM

4. drill all your holes and mount everything up. I used 5 mounting points and its perfect, i didnt need another mounting point in the middle on the bottom, its very solid.

5. Sit back and admire your hard work.

Next up is the opening on the sides of the front bumper w/a LED. Grill piece is done for the sides but the mounting is a bit challenging. Will update later in the week when i have time to work on it.

Hope this helps. I dont have any pics mounted on the car as i dont even have the car yet lol. Waiting for all my parts before i buy the car.

cooltoy 03-08-2016 08:52 AM

Keep up the journal. This will be very helpful to many people.

I would recommend increasing the size of the hole for the oil change area for easier access later.

Daniel123588 03-10-2016 01:21 AM

Hello,
Just a small update. So mounting the side grill was a little bit of a challenge. I found some aluminum (rust resisitant, they didn't have stainless steel) L brackets that seem to work out pretty well. They did require some bending but i didnt have a vice grip bench so i had to use two pliers, hence the somewhat poor bends. Still was able to achieve the job, if this was visible, i would do a much more aesthetically pleasing job despite not being visible... like tie strapping the center grill... not this time.

So, step one. Buy some L brackets and bend it accordingly to make sure it mounts to the grill you made. Sand it down with low grit as i had to us JB weld paste to mount it on. Sand down the bumper mounting point with low grit as well. Wipe down with rubbing alcohol after and wear gloves.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psxbd42t7q.jpg
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psq3o4zfen.jpg

2. Do the top. let it dry, mount the bottom, let it dry.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps5ienkyei.jpg

3. Mount the bolts, lock washer should be used in my opinion.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...pswd5a1dvw.jpg

4. Bolt up the nuts and bolts.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...pswbup3zao.jpg
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...pskldj5dop.jpg

5. Make sure it looks fine from up front.

Daniel123588 03-10-2016 01:26 AM

My intention is to mount some LED's on each side so i will need to remake the mesh grill as mounting it on to the current mesh grill wont work too well.
Ill update later but hope this helps others.

CoolToy, yes, i intend to open the oil change opening but its so hard to know where to cut when i don't have the car. All i can use is the other pictures you posted which i will go off of. I will probably add a cover to the opening so it doesn't lose its rigidity structure.

Stay tuned...if you interested, if not, whatever.

Shoots brah!

cooltoy 03-10-2016 08:53 AM

I am thinking of making an aluminum door on a swivel to cover the whole I make, so dirt an rocks stay out of there. Not sure how durable that would be.

Daniel123588 03-11-2016 12:50 AM

Howzhit my braddahs and sistas! Dis stay how we talk in da kine Hawaii bu.

Some people post comments like that on our local newspaper comment section and its quite embarassing as it makes the local people seem slightly uneducated and people get the wrong idea. That was the fun fact of the day!

Moving on. So i had some time today to mount just one side of the flush mount white LED i bought. Photos make the LED look blue as usual as its just a iphone camera so just letting you know.

So i tried various methods including mounting it straight on the mesh but it looked really ghetto not to mention it was difficult to make it bolt flush on to the mesh. Then i tried mounting it on the top part of the vent, it was hard to see it so i decided mounting it on the bottom would be the best option.

1. Buy your LED. This LED i bought is quite powerful. Although the website didn't notate lumens in the specs, i already had an idea what i was buying. The beauty of this one is that its extremely flush and is VERY powerful.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...pstt8ygqv8.jpg

2. Start working on your template. I used cardstock and bolted it on the bracket on the bottom. After your template is made, trace it on a aluminum sheet. The pic shows me test fitting on the top but i made another template as i decided to mount on the bottom. Dont cut too much until the end.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psom9kwweb.jpg
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...pstez4om62.jpg

3. Start to test fit and make proper adjustment. This was almost the complete product but the fact that the top of the aluminum plate is flat made it look out of place.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psmsv0qaic.jpg
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psrfwywvw3.jpg

4. Some fine tuning by making it rounded. Looks better in my opinion.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps157h1qoe.jpg
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psw52isjdx.jpg
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psqzwxiabq.jpg

5. Pic to show how flush it is.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psbpvcc4xb.jpg

Daniel123588 03-11-2016 12:56 AM

6. fire it up and make sure its good.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps2n7viw7j.jpg
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psc2wwglml.jpg
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psbghvvn5n.jpg
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psxp0cjrx5.jpg
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...pskfpqmej4.jpg

Also just FYI, the aluminum piece is going to be painted gloss black when the bumper gets painted so try to pretend its black. THe second to the last pic is still when the aluminum was still straight, its actually rounded now like the other pics.

I come from building lexus's and i really like the yellow fog look. I bought some yellow vinyl film that i may put over these LED's. My intention is to leave these LED's on whenever the car is on, including the headlight.

Believe it or not, this crap took about 3 hours to do... only because the kit is at work and i had to bring all my tools over to my workplace. But anyhow hope this helps.

mag_black 03-11-2016 01:10 AM

Nice work, customcargrills is the shiz :tiphat:

cooltoy 03-11-2016 08:45 AM

Did you consider mounting behind the mesh to make the mesh visible, and to allow the mesh to protect the light?

Daniel123588 03-11-2016 10:53 AM

I wanted the led to be visible. But mounting it behind the mesh would be easier but thicker aluminum would need to be used.
The LED also has a epoxy coating on it for protection along with completely being water proof to the point where it can be submerged in water.
Thanks!

Daniel123588 03-11-2016 10:56 AM

Actually I think you mean placing it behind WHILE cutting out an area just around the LED in the mesh? That might be a clean look. Hmmmm do I want to do it all over again... And buy another thicker aluminum sheet? Hmmmmmmmm not even done with the other side yet damn.

cooltoy 03-11-2016 11:08 AM

I was not thinking of cutting the mesh, but that is an option.

I am going to place my OEM 2014 LED's in there, but behind the mesh.

Daniel123588 03-11-2016 11:34 PM

Fun Fact: Humuhumunukunukuapua'a.....that is the name of our state fish!

Finished the other side. These pictures might make it look a little tacky but its quite clean in person, in my opinion at least.
Trying to steer away from LED strips/bars as thats the norm with OEM manufacturing these days.
I used painters tape and sharpied it black to give a better idea of what the outcome would look like once its painted.
Next up is cutting the oil change opening and adding a cover....swivel....hmmm maybe. Again my local hardware store doesn't have much selection.

Ho Brah howzhit bu, everyone stay chillin or wat?

Alrighty, pics are always helpful arent they? I happened to grab a 370z and starting to work on getting my kit on. Hope people find this helpful when deciding which kit to buy.

The skirts are probably the easiest piece to work on. All the holes need to be drilled but Shine Auto has little dimples to give you a very close idea where to drill. While some people may just drill it without mounting, i highly suggest test mounting and then to start drilling so its close as possible. For those people that are not extremely anal about fitment, these skirts fit extremely well. areas inside the door jam, while not visible, do require a little bit of work for perfectionist. I am not one to just drill new holes into the chassis because it exposes bare metal and without coating rust protection, it will eventually rust. Heres some pics with just test mounting with tape, it was late and i just finished work so taking the skirts off and test mounting with fitment and some sanding what all i did today.

This is one push clip thing i will try to mount as shown in the picture on to the new side skirt so i can use all the existing OEM holes. http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...pspmv5feql.jpg

Did you know?! a gallon of milk here in Hawaii cost about $8-$10 dollars when its not on sale. Quite a price we pay for the milk of a cow...sounds gross. ok ok here some updates and pics.

Skirt fitment again is prettty good. By far the easiest piece to mount and drill. The dimples are extremely close to the actual holes.

Some bumper work today. frickin tired. Didnt get around to making license plate brackets, currnetly its just tie strapped on the grill... yes yes kind of ghetto, it doesnt actually look that bad even in person but i was way too tired already.

Foam bumper support needs to be taken out for this amuse rep, unless you could actually shave it down but i dont have tools to do such a thing.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psvqullbta.jpg

the mouth of bumper, this area i had to cut out a little more as it was hitting the bracket.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps9nzubzyi.jpg

Unfortuntely, have to take out the liner to do the install. this piece has to be trimmed as well as its tool long on this new bumper.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psv3plqnbh.jpg

HEres the length you need to gauge and cut.

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psf5unwksr.jpg

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps2we9tm1s.jpg

The bad news but should already be expected with any brand:
1. The holes along the center top that are held in with clips are pre drilled. i had to bore them out with a dremel to make them all fit good. Clips cover the entire hole so its all good.

2. Drilling the holes on the mounting locations on the underside below is a bit difficult. Screwing the bolts in was often a challenge to.

3. Doing testing and fitting by yourself is bad news, if you have a fellow friend, you should def ask. i have no friends so it was just myself.

4. The center mouth opening had to be trimmed, see above post about hitting bracket.

4.5: Cutting fender liner, while easy i didnt have to do that on my 350z Shine kit. oh well.

5. And the most irritating of all is having no low profile jack,Ugh.

Almost forgot the good:
1. Fitment on area where bumper meets fender is excellent! The pre drilled square holes mount perfect, the main one hole with the screw that goes into the fender had to be enlarged a little bit but wasnt a big deal. The quality of the fit was very impressive.

2. Gaps along headlights, hood, fender is quite well. not 100% but very close. Perfection can be accomplished with patience and sanding but i was satisfied so didnt have to do any sanding.

3. Again the bumper has dimples in the mounting locations to give you an idea roughly where to drill. While these marks are not 100% perfect, it pretty daaaamn close.

Very satisfied especially for the price as i cant afford authentic. Brah i stay broke, ai sus.

Daniel123588 04-02-2016 12:35 AM

Ill update again when i get the rear spats added on. a good portion of the spats needs to be double stick taped on like the rear diffuser so i wont be driving with them more than likely till i paint.

Have had better days at work......had to handle the leak of the Panama Papers and the offshore accounts...damn.

Anyway, had some time to get a head start before i work on it tom. Couldn't find any really good bumper removal DIY surprisingly (than again all cars are generally the same). Here a simple walk through.

0.5. Take off the hatch rubber seal halfway to the top.
1. Take the interior panels off. See that one nut, its an 8mm, remove this. Hold the HL.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...pswp7p0zsu.jpg http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps96zmal6x.jpg

2. Take off the trim cover on the headlight. Take off the two 10 mm.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psthq7zzw0.jpg

3. At this point you can take off the HL. You have to pull towards the rear of the car, there are two male plastic plugs. see pic.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psknixw2u6.jpg

4. Take off there two black plastic clips. Holds the bumper. Others on the bottom right of the pic. Kind of cut off. I circled it with my hand.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psm2vsjcoz.jpg

Daniel123588 04-05-2016 02:00 AM

Forgot what step already....blind....lol.
Remove this one 10mm under the bumper. Daaaaamn! look at those sexy hairy legs!
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...pslism4iss.jpg

Take off this plastic clip.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psivrmgxg6.jpg

Now do everything you just did on the other wise of the bumper. Tail light, bumper clips and the 10mm under the car.

The bumper has 2 last screws on the corner where they meet the quarter panel. Pull the fender liner by the rear tires (pulls super easy at this point) and you will see the screw on the corner.

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psen59kjrc.jpg

Do the same on the other side.

Bumper is ready to be pulled off. Pull on the corners gently and it will pull out. See pic.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...pshfchofbg.jpg

Take off the harnesses. I have a extra wire as i mounted a back up cam. I had to take off the center piece housing thats held on by 5 screws as its attached to bumper.

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psot0ekjwl.jpg

Heres the spat for test fitting. I already fitted and sanded this a few days ago before doing my side skirts to realize i need to take the bumper off to work better. It already sat pretty flush but i need it to be flush as possible. It fits pretty good even without sanding.

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps6sftoocu.jpg

Daniel123588 04-05-2016 02:07 AM

This is the area you need to make that bracket (if you want) as a mounting support. http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psavj1vmqi.jpg

The wheelwell area.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...pstrz8sull.jpg

Da da di di diffuser. Fujimura too but the fitment is just OK, not perfect, i really feel i got a dud for some reason. Anyhow the reason why peoples diffusers start coming off even with a decent quality tape is it needs some sanding to sit more flush without having to press so hard to make it flush.
This pic is diffuser just resting on top. I need to make sure to get the spats to match close as possible
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psz37royjf.jpg

Speed screws to mount just one hole of the two to fiddle aroundwith fitment. Its surprisingly a bit difficult to get it exactly how you want it due to the curves.

Pretty flush but its so dark outside already LOL i have a forehead flashlight.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...pstkcpno6w.jpg

well thats it for tonight. ZzZzzzzzz

Nice work documenting this for those who will be doing this in the future. I recommend using a u-spring nut to mount the mesh. Makes the job easier. It would also work nicely with the access door to the oil filter and plug. Cut out an Al frame to reinforce the fiberglass and hold it in place using silicone and the u spring nut onto the undertray . Make another Al cutout to cover the access door secured by 4 u spring nuts and bolts. Hope this suggestion is clear.

Daniel123588 04-05-2016 08:12 PM

DID YOU KNOW? University of Hawaii professors arent allowed to date students, guess they just gotta keep it on the dl. Anyhow. some updates.

Mock up your bracket to mount the bottom hole of the spats.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...pskeekkveu.jpg

I bought some sheet metal and made the brackets. Heres my first bracket but i decided to change it up.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psog1hwgbx.jpg

Here is the revised bracket as i wanted to make another mounting point for the spat on to the bumper for more support.

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...pstscce3ad.jpg

Used the U clips. My hardware store didnt have U spring clips but this will do.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psvnpl81vc.jpg

Bought some push pin clips or whatever its called.

What about just one night stands? That does not count as dating, does it?

Daniel123588 04-05-2016 08:19 PM

I want to talk about the rear diffuser again. My fitment was really bad. So i took off the fog light on the bottom and what do you know, it fits flush.
Once again, the diffuser hits the light so you need to sand the inside of the diffuser where it meets the fog light and look where it needs sanding.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...pstpeqketv.jpg

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps3obtjtsk.jpg

Use the 5 allen bolts provided to mount the bottom of the diffuser.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psmrccne0y.jpg

It now sits pretty flush so i decided to just leave it on. These fitment pictures below are without any tape at all and just the 5 bolts. I have to take it off later to paint thats why.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psn4dejokm.jpg

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps7idmciv8.jpg

I guess thats about it. I hope the brackets pic help because all the previous threads on the spat installs have lost the pictures from what i could find.

Did some extra stuff today. So as many of you know, the oil change hole is very very tiny and needs to be enlarged. CoolToy sent me a pic which i should have cut BEFORE the bumper was on but i wanted to be sure as to where exactly to cut so had to do so today with the bumper on the car.
1. Heres the hole
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psuz2t1bdx.jpg
2. Heres the hole enlarged using a dremel. TIP! For those that arent aware, there is a attachment that looks like a regular drill bit but its meant to cut sideways, a perfect tool for cutting something like this. Sorry no pic of the tool.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...pszk4crjvh.jpg
3. Sanded and cleaned up a bit.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psggklgvo7.jpg

4. MOck your cardboard template
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...psmujtmff8.jpg

5. So i also had the idea of a hinge to cover this (as cooltoy did as well) but man it was not worth the trouble and therefore i changed it up. Here is what it was:

6. It was way too difficult to make the metal sit nicely tucked inside so the wind doesnt catch it, i had to scrape that hinge idea, not worth it. Heres the piece of aluminum traced to size. Might be easier to use a thin metal that can cut with snips, i had to use a cutting disk.

7. the aluminum is tucked inside facing the front of the bumper so that it doesnt catch wind . I bent it a little bit to make it sit more nicely inside the opening. Use U-Spring Clips to make mounting a breeze.

Man all these stainless steel bolts, washers, lock washers, etc add up, makes me want to steal them sometimes but id rather support my local hardware business store. Afterall wouldnt be able to get anything done without them. Thanks City Mill!

Hope this helps. Now oil changes are just two phillips bolts and tray slides out.

TIP! Perhaps its best to do this off the car.....

DID YOU KNOW! The Hawaii rail transit system currently being built is over budget by a BILLION dollars. OMFG.... fail....

Thanks for stopping by! Cheers and ahuiho!

Ok so I'm bored at the moment sitting on the floor waiting for my friend working on a older skyline. so I decided to update a little bit. Oh here's the skyline ooh more of a classic than a performer. http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...slkduinix.jpeg

So I got the wiring started for the LED. For now I will run as drl so it turns off when the parking lights come on. This whole process can be changed super easy to run the lights on all the time when the car is on. Anyhow lets get started.
Here's the box under the hood we are tapping into.

This female harness is not being used for my model. I think it was for heater control but I'm drinking right now so I don't remember. Touring model may have this being used with a relay. These harnesses can be take. Out by pushing the plastic area on the left. Harness falls down towards the ground not up.omg doing this on the phone is a joke with photobuxket. http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...sw2jk7goa.jpeg
