I was able to rotate the mounting section about 30 degrees and it came out much better.

Seems like a lot of work. I just tucked my excess cord behind kick panel. No visible cord. Problem solved ;)

I still need to mount the dock to something...so I thought I'd see how I can try and add a cable management section to this.

Plus, I have access to 3D printers at work...so I might as well make use of them lol

I think those little arms are going to snap off the moment you try to wrap your cable around that with any sort of snugness.

they wont. they're 5 mm in diameter and im debating whether to have this made out of abs or ultem. if the cost isnt much more for ultem, im going to go that route since i can print both in black

That's 5mil!? Bracket must be rather large then. Look forward to the physical so I can see a proper sense of scale.

Not my photo, but I have the same clip mount for the CD thing, and it works beautifully and looks clean.

It's because I use the cubby on the dashboard. I wouldn't want to have to remove this mount every time. But thanks for the "A" :happydance:

I don't like having many things hanging from my window (exceptions for radar detectors). Plus, having the cable management this is a pain since I am using the ProClip to charge the phone at the same time as mounting.

I'm a Mechanical Engineer, so I like designing and analyzing things. Thought I'd share with others. Thanks for the input though Nick M and madeinjapan.

that would be bothersome for those with nav (like me).

It rotates horizontally.

I'd have to see a side profile with it rotated horizontally to see the clearance.

Now as far as aesthetics...it's kind of thrown out the door when trying to incorporate cable management without making this too big and costly. I do like the one the original guy did, but he didn't have cable management.

He used fiberglass to design it, so it allows for a bit more play in the aesthetics department compared to using a CAD software like I am using (it's SOLIDWORKS if anyone was wondering). But I am going to play around with aesthetics after I get the fitment to the panel correct. so we shall see.

Ok. I got around to designing a couple more and having them printed.

This was just to make sure that I had enough of an angle to account for the gap I had in my first design (which shouldn't have happned, but oh well...it did... get over it :rofl2: lol)

Then I designed it with a slanted top edge and a rib to help stabilize it:

And then I thought that it might just be a little too big and would stick out a little too far. And I remembered what pfdaxe said



So I went back and designed one without the cable management:

So I printed all three and tested out the one with out the cable management and the wire fit nicely behind the panel:

The scratch marks are from when removing the support material. I'm going to sand it down to give it a better finish on the final product.

So far it fits and works great. I might make some more minor tweaks on the angle the phone faces the driver for people who sit further back. And I might try making a full vertical section along the panel to prevent being able to slide it down without having the move the panel (it does take some force to get it to slide down, but under normal insert and removal, it holds up quite nicely).

Hopefully I can get an updated version done by next week. But we shall see.

Also, for those wondering, the bolt pattern on the holder is the same for all models.
